Spread the love

Hello my vintage loving friends!  It’s time for the bimonthly Lifestyle of Love hop and this time we’re sharing our adoration for galvanized containers!  They’re one of those household staples every country-loving person should keep around the house – even if it’s rusty or holey.  So check out how I use my 5 favorite vintage galvanized containers for flowers!

How I Use My 5 Favorite Vintage Galvanized Containers For Flowers!

If you’ve hopped over from Follow the Yellow Brick Home, yay and welcome!  Amber has such a green thumb and a knack for all things vintage and beautiful.  I always enjoy seeing her garden.

There are so many ways you can utilize buckets or containers around your home.  They can be sued for plants, corralling clutter, to hold a grouping of candles, to carry things or used to hold drinks and ice.  So many things!

3 galvanized buckets with flowersMy first 3 favorite galvanized containers!

Here are 3 of my favorite buckets.  The top one has a square handle on the back that helps it hang from ledges (I think).  Not sure what it was used for but I see them all over the place.  I guess I could always ask but never think of that when I’m shopping and on a mission.

The second cone shaped bucket is what they used decades ago to help put out fires.  Can you imagine?  It’s already heavy.  If it were left up to me to run, get more water then carry it back to pour on a fire, sadly, it would be nothing but burnt toothpicks by the time I got back.

The third bucket at the bottom is actually huge.  I could baptize a small child in that thing or use it to bob for apples at the fall festival or even turn it over and use it as a table for a tic-tac-toe game!

This next one was found at the Round Top, Texas Antique Fair.  I never ever leave that place without a truck load of treasures.  I couldn’t believe no one had snatched it up before I got there.  It’s small.  Like 36 inches small.  I paid only $30 for it and saw one exactly like it on Etsy the other day for $460!  Say what?!  That’s quite the profit but I can’t give it up.  Especially when it’s so easy to add flowers to it.

vintage cart holds flowers I call it my ice-cream cart!

This one is another fantastic find.  Not sure what it is though.  Any ideas?  I call it my ice-cream cart.  It’s super deep so if they used it as a wheel barrow or something similar, they needed a super strong farm boy to push it around.  I’ve pushed it around empty and it’s difficult.  But the tires are gone and the ground around the farmhouse is all sand so you can understand it’s not the lack of muscles or my age.  LOL.

When we filled it up for plants/flowers, I used lots of empty milk jugs, boxes, etc. to fill up the bottom and take up empty space.  That saved our backs and a ton of money on potting soil.  It has had pumpkins in it and I’ve used it for a table by adding a piece of wood to the top before.  It would make a fantastic ice chest for a party and yes, when the cone shape bucket isn’t a planter, it holds old architectural salvage pieces just for pretties.

This last one is a bonus!  It’s a galvanized bucket but not actually vintage.  It’s perfect to hold drinks, ice and popsicles as we sit and watch the July 4th parade come up the street!  I’ve used it to hold dog toys, blankets, throw pillows and plants as well.  Seriously, buckets are so dang handy!

I’m not one for gardening but I can plop a planter inside a cute galvanized piece with the best of them. Glad you liked them. They are probably my two faves as well. Hope you have a great week Meagan. Thank you!

What a great galvanized collection and so many fun ways to use each piece! I love that bathtub shaped one and the cone is awesome! Filling vintage junk with vintage junk is right up my alley! Of course your buckets look great with flowers too! That rusty plant stand is always a favorite to see.

You are so lucky to get to junk at Round Top! Maybe one day I can come visit and we can go on a junkin’ adventure!

Thanks for hosting this fun hop!
