My Statement Piece is Mounted in the Dining Room!

Spread the love

Hello Friends!  Are y’all excited that Spring is officially here?  Me too!  I think today I’ll drop by the nursery and pick up some flowers for the front door pots.  I’d like to paint the front door but that will have to wait until I have time and a day we can take the door off the hinges.  Anyway, I wanted to give you an update on the Dining Room.  It’s coming along nicely!  Still waiting on a couple of things but my statement piece is mounted to the wall!

Look at that honker!  Is that a statement piece or what?!  I’ve always wanted a fireplace in the dining room and this is as close as I’m going to get.  It’s 7-1/2 feet wide and almost 5 foot tall!  We found it on one of the Facebook trading post sites around us.  The seller pulled it (saved it) out of what he said was a mini-mansion because the owners were just going to throw it out.  Throw it out?!  Can you believe it?  That’s crazy talk.

You know I love repurposing and reusing things so this was perfect for the new old dining room.

You can see we didn’t remove the chair railing along the wall.  We don’t plan to stay in this house forever and I haven’t decided whether or not I’m going to take the mantel with me so keeping the chair rail seemed the best idea.  Taking it off means taking them all off around the room and texturing each wall and repainting.  Um? No thanks!

I plan to make a curtain that hangs inside the 5-1/2 foot opening to hide the railing.  It’ll look cute and that’s another post for later.  But for now, gaze upon this beauty.  I love that it was already black and distressed with a blue green color underneath.  Honestly, I’ve lost sleep over wondering if I should paint it white or keep it black?  I’ve decided to live with it for a little while and figure it out later.  Most likely it will stay black because there are a few black things in the kitchen including the table.

I just plopped a few things up on the top for pictures but I have other awesome plans for the mantel decor.  Actually, I am so excited to have this mantel in here because the stone mantel in the family room is puny and uneven so this allows me to have fun and be creative every single season!   Woo hoo!

Well that’s what we’ve been up to lately.  Fingers still crossed it’s finished before Easter.  If not, thankfully my family won’t care.  All they care about is the important stuff; being together, cake and funeral potatoes.  😉

What a grand piece! I hope you leave it black as it really stands out against the wall. Besides it has all that wonderful chippy-ness happening. Glad it was rescued from being thrown away and you now have it! So cool!

Thanks Cecilia! I have a strong feeling it’s staying black. I’m getting tired of painting! 😉

Well the dining room looks stunning already. I can’t wait to see it on Easter Sunday. I know that mantle will look totally different, and so festive! It looks really great there

Thanks! Yes, it will probably look totally different on Easter. That’s the fun of having a real mantel! I love it!

Cindy just look at that beautiful piece. It has age on it like nobody’s business. It kind of reminds me of the Dowgar Duchess in Downton Abbey, stately and in command of the room!

Oh Mary – You’re right! I do love it and plan to keep it black. Thank you your comment made my day. ❤️
