Easy and Elegant Last Minute Fall Door Decor

Spread the love

Hello my fall loving friends!  I tried to go into the garden stores this weekend to get white pumpkins but there were so  many people I let them do their thing and went back home.  And no one around here is selling cornstalks yet either so I was all kinds of disappointed.  All I got accomplished for decorating the porchette was my easy and elegant last minute fall door decor.

Easy and Elegant Last Minute Fall Door Decor

Full front door with fall hanging basket

Decorating the front door was easy because it required a little stuffing, tying and a quick hang.  Elegant because the wheat is so pretty as it blows in the breeze and I love the natural color.  And last minute because it literally took me 5 minutes to put it together.

All you need to create this simple piece is a flat hanging willow basket or any woven basket with lots of texture, wheat stems and ribbon.

My willow basket is rugged and looks substantial but it’s lightweight which is a requirement for the glass piece on our front door.

Our home faces south and the winds can be aggressive on the porchette.  Besides the spooky factor, we can’t have anything that bangs up against the glass.  This basket has been used several times and works great.  It can get rained on and knocked around but stays great looking.  Have you ever purchased a quilt set from Home Goods?  The ribbon/bow on the basket was tying the quilt set together so thank ya free.  πŸ˜‰

Howdy Fall chalkboard sign

Y’all know I’m more casual and about the grins than refined, right?  Well adding a small chalkboard was a must.  When you look at the handwriting on the chalkboard, you can see I’m no chalk artist but that’s not going to stop me from having a cute sign.  Originally it said come on in, we’re awesome.  Then I thought that’s just inviting the weirdos, hooligans and everyone inside.

Um yeah, that’s not a good idea.

I say hooligans because one day when we walked outside, this little sign was hanging on our doorbell.  We didn’t buy it.  One of our neighbors (you know who you are) snuck it up there.  At first I thought, we can’t have that hanging there.  But now no one rings the doorbell for fear of getting a dog so it’s all good.  No ringing the doorbell means no barking dogs.  Thanks J.B.

If you don’t have a hanging basket, here are other ideas to use instead.

Use a woven purse with a strap or tote bag

Try a shopping bag

An old fishing basket

Maybe a flat umbrella stand

Or a woven magazine rack

If you don’t have wheat, here are more ideas to fill up your hanging basket.

Mini pumpkins on skewers or sticks at varied heights with Magnolia leaves

Hydrangeas, Sunflowers or other type of fall flower

A little scarecrow family with bittersweet, fern stems and berries

Plant a mum inside a sturdy bag and place inside basket

Love the sign Cindy…on the fall basket and the one someone left you! I have three dogs and the doorbell even on tv sets them all off! But your basket is adorable. Great idea!

We had three dogs up until a few weeks ago. Still miss that little guy. I know what you mean about ALL of them barking. Sometimes it sounded like a doggie daycare around here. πŸ™‚ Thanks Denise!
