Hello Friends! It’s Pinterest Challenge Day and we are celebrating Easter decor around here. I love all things Easter. Jesus, the colors, the eggs (both deviled and filled with money), the chocolate bunnies, the baskets – all of it! Do you? Our challenge this month was Easter lanterns so I’m sharing how to add pretty Easter decor to a large tobacco stick lantern. I thought you may have seen my other lanterns a bit too much already so this one is slightly different.
How To Add Pretty Easter Decor To A Large Tobacco Stick Lantern

Our inspiration photo comes from Ann at On Sutton Place. She has created quite the table centerpiece with double lanterns. What I’ve noticed from her photo that I plan to use in this challenge is the lantern, bunnies, a white pitcher with stems and carrots. I also noticed the tray but I don’t have one large enough to hold this lantern. So, here’s how I turn Ann’s lovely centerpiece into something that works with my style along with my goal of not spending any money.
The only 2 lanterns that I have that are similar are black and I think you’ve seen them way to many times so instead of two small lanterns, I’m using one large one. Have you heard of a tobacco stick lantern before? My understanding is that tobacco sticks were made about 100-200 years ago from sassafras, poplar, oak and sycamore trees to withstand the weight of the tobacco leaves hanging out to dry.
I got this one at the Antique Fair in Round Top, TX a few years ago. I didn’t know exactly what to do with it at first. Actually, I didn’t even know what it was and all the lady mentioned was that her husband made them. Since then I’ve learned it was called a Tobacco Stick Lantern. Back then, I called it a house form and wrote a post called 5 Ways to Decorate A House Form. Ha! Maybe one day I’ll fix that post.
As for duplicating Ann’s bunnies, I have a small collection of faux bunny molds form various places. I hope to find more but they are what I’m using in my lantern.
Silver bunny molds – Cute or Scary?!
I used to think the one above with the darling little baby bunny was so sweet. Then I took this photo and noticed the face on the momma looks a little scary. Do you see that? Eew.
This is the tallest bunny and the first one I ever purchased years ago. I like the pewter looking patina and the eggs in a basket on his back. So cute!
Ann’s photo also had a white pitcher with stems. I already had these real hydrangeas from a party we had last week so they work for the stems.
Raffia Carrots from Walmart
Well, I almost hit my goal of not buying anything. I had the orange paper carrots hanging from the top of the stem on the lantern but didn’t really like it. When I saw these raffia carrots at Walmart, they seemed more in keeping with my vibe. Plus, they were inexpensive so why not? It obviously doesn’t take much to sway this girl. 😉
I had one more faux silver mold that I wanted to share. It didn’t make the cut in the lantern but it’s adorable so it had to make an appearance. It was cut because it’s not proportionate to the other bunnies. Just imagine them together. Weird.

I like your lantern and the arrangement. Love the bunny molds, especially the two bunnies together. I’ve never seen anything made from tobacco sticks. Would they be the stems of tobacco plants? They look very much like soft wood – such as pine. I love the carrots. I’ll have to find some, or make some – I believe I could bake some from the “old paper ribbon” which is still rolled up!

Cindy, this is adorable! I found a bunny mold last year and want to find more bc they’re so cute! As far as the momma bunny’s face…I think she’s just feeling stressed because Mr Magregor almost nabbed her baby in the cabbage patch! So she’s hugging him really tight and feeling so relieved and scared 😉 That’s my story 😅 I love those rustic carrots, they fit your decor perfectly! This is so cute! Jesus is my favorite part of Easter too. I go all out decorating for Easter and the rest of the spring season just like I do for Christmas because Easter, the Resurrection of Jesus, is what gave me the Salvation that I received by His Grace, through His perfect plan of salvation! I want to treat it as such! So I get the kiddos involved and we decorate just like we do at Christmas. I love the metal bunny molds and the tobacco stick lantern you found!
