Look at these easy patriotic decor ideas using mini flags

Howdy folks!  Today is Pinterest Challenge Day and we’re celebrating with flags!  I think one of the best things about summer is all the holidays we have using the U.S. flag and the colors red, white and blue around our homes.  Despite the ups, downs, divisiveness and sad fighting amongst ourselves, God is still in control and I still love this country.  I’m not going to get on a political soapbox, instead, let’s look at these easy patriotic decor ideas using mini flags.  That sounds way more fun.

If you’ve hopped over from French Ethereal, thank you.  I’m excited you’re here and hope you browse around the blog and find lots of interesting ideas.  Using the “search” button on the sidebar will help. πŸ˜‰

Our inspiration photo was found on Edith and Evelyn.  I’ve followed Cindy for years and love her French Country home.  She was also sharing some patriotic ideas and as soon as I saw this photo, it gave me the stand-up-and-put-your-hand-over-your-heart-feels and I may have started singing Lee Greenwoods song.  Then I dug out all my mini flags and started poking them into all kinds of things!

Did you know that during May thru September there are 10 – U.S. holidays when you should fly your American Flag? Peace Officer’s Memorial Day, Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Army Day, Independence Day, Korean War Veterans Day, Labor Day, Constitution Day and Air Force Day.  Of course there are lots more throughout the year but I’m concentrating on summertime home decor.

I usually leave the red, white and blue decor up all summer long at the country home.  But in reality, here in our everyday home I typically change things around every couple of weeks because this girl can’t sit still long enough to let the dust settle.  It’s like having restless leg syndrome all over my body.  It has to be a real thing.

Anyway, can you really have to many flags during a national holiday?  Actually, I think you can.  I had flags on the place settings and more flags inside the crocks on the mantels and decided it was way too much.  My eyes were googly and I don’t mean from being in love or having an extra large piece of wedding cake plopped down in front or you.

BTW, if anyone out there is getting married, here’s a hint.  Don’t skimp on the slice of the cake you pass out to the guests.  These little 2 inch bite size pieces are for the birds (literally).  We want a big slice!  And that’s not what you want people talking about later.  Just sayin’.  πŸ˜‰

Sorry, back to the fun stuff.  Your blue colors don’t have to be extremely blue.  You can see the vintage bottles are more of a green blue color and the crocks and faux hydrangeas aren’t the same either but they all look great together!

Years ago I used to concern myself with the length of the stems inside the bottles because they showed.  Not a bad thing until I had a closet chock-full of cut faux flowers and got aggravated because I couldn’t find the ones I needed.  Back then I wasn’t as organized.

Now, instead of buying more flowers, I scrunch and bend the longer stems and stuff them inside whatever and just don’t care.  I’m sure you won’t find that in a magazine or on a celebrities cocktail table.  It’s called being lazy but the way I see it – life is too short to care about scrunchy stems.

Hi Cindy, Thank you for all you do behind the scenes for this party.
I added your blog to my feedly reader so I stay on top of all the girls’ projects.
I love those napkins and pie plate chargers.
The greenery above the basket and on the table remind me that green looks great against red, white and blue.
Love this challenge. Oh and your bottles I am adding a row of bottles and flags for summer!

Thanks bunches Laura. I saw your email and have been so busy with Interior Motiv that I’ve had little time to go back and take care of personal things. You’re on my list though. I would love to get the in-person grand tour!

Looks like you just the right amount of flags and they look so good everywhere! The mantel over the fireplace is my fave. BTW the mister would totally agree with you on generous slices of cake. I mean what are you saving it for! LOL!

    • May 24, 2022 / 11:23 am

LOL Michelle! Sounds like the mister and I would get along great! What are they saving it for? I know they have one hidden in the kitchen they’ve already planned to save for their first anniversary which is probably going to be yucky like ours. But alas, they didn’t ask me. I love the mantel in the living room too. Thank you friend.

Baby girl, I’m with you on the cake slices. I want a good sized piece!

    • May 24, 2022 / 11:25 am

Exactly! I don’t want to go around asking people for their leftovers or have anyone see me lick the plate. That’s just not proper.

I became a lot more patriotic after 25 years of working at our local VA Hospital! I love r/w/b together and leave my patriotic stuff up often thru Labor Day when I start bringing out fall stuff! Currently have a r/w/b Red Sox wreathe on my French front door!

    • May 24, 2022 / 1:19 pm

Yay Kathy, I love it! I’m a huge r/w/b fan myself because it always makes me smile. And what a memorable time working in the VA hospital. So grateful for their sacrifices. Happy Memorial Day and go Red Sox! That’s baseball, right? Just kidding. I love baseball. Need to get to a Ranger game and have a $10 hotdog! πŸ™‚

You are so right, I love all your red white and blue. When I hear the Anthem I have tears in my eyes I’m so proud to be an American and to know Jesus Christ as my Savoir. I love the way you decorate and those metal chargers are the cutest, love the napkins too.

    • May 24, 2022 / 1:23 pm

Thank you Marlene. I am the same way about tearing up and being proud. I still wear matching clothes on the holidays and wonder why so many people don’t. Even my flip flops are red with stars on them. The metal chargers came from Pier One (sad they closed) and the napkins from HomeGoods a couple of weeks ago. Hope your holidays are wonderful friend.

I mentioned to my hubs I needed more bottles and jars and he didn’t even pick up his head. He just asked – Is that to go with the hundred you already have? LOL. Yep! Happy Memorial Day Lynne and thanks for the visit.

Just pinned these fabulous ideas to my patriotic pinterest board, Cindy. I love everything you shared from the basket to the bottles to the dining room. It’s so hard to believe the 4th of July will be here before you know it. I took my Dad to see Top Gun: Maverick yesterday and we loved it. It was such a special way to celebrate Memorial weekend. Hope you and your family had a fun time together too. Big hugs, CoCo

    • June 2, 2022 / 9:34 pm

We’ve decided to go see Top Gun Maverick this Monday night. I hear great things about it. Sounds like the perfect way to celebrate Memorial Day too. We were cleaning the farmhouse for Memorial Day. Dinner out was about all I could muster at the end of that back breaking weekend but it was nice. Thanks for the sweet comment and the pin. πŸ™‚
