How long do you leave your seasonal decor out after Easter? A day, a week, maybe after a full month? I usually put mine away at the end of the month. Some of the bunnies are decor staples in our house and will stay out all summer long. This week, since it’s time for another Design Challenge, I thought a quick and easy spring porch refresh was in order.
You might be thinking – girl, you just did your porch. True, but I love change, so any time I get the chance to revamp a look, I’m all in.
If you’ve landed here via My Family Thyme, welcome! I’m excited you’re here and hope you find the Design Challenge intriguing and want to keep up with it each month. If you want to subscribe to my blog, fill out the form to the right titled – Get The Latest.
A Quick and Easy Spring Porch Refresh
Inspiration Image from Common Ground
Our inspiration photo comes from my dear friend Debra at Common Ground. After reading my post and the others below, you should click over and check out her blog. She has the most amazing style.
What I notice about Debra’s image is her vintage white chair, her flowering plants, the wire basket with burlap detail, and a tray inside the basket.
If I were at the farmhouse, I’d be able to replicate all the white goodness Debra shared. But I’m not. I’m at home in the Dallas area, and the look of our home here is quite different. But that’s not going to stop me from trying!
Easter porchette before refresh
Here is what our porchette looked like before. Minus the basket. It was too hard to clean with all of the green pollen floating around. I loved the bright colors in the rug and the bunny head sitting inside the boxwood wreath on the door. But as cute as it was, I am ready for something different and more plants. This design challenge came at just the right time.
Same ol’ rug, same ol’ wall art, same ol’ chairs.
You can see how the refresh was so quick and easy. All I had to do was switch out the washable rug and the front door decor. The frames on the side walls, the cushions, and the pillows stayed the same.
I try to spend as little money as possible with the challenges. All I purchased this month were two new plants from Walmart. Those beauties on the ground were only $14.00 each and would have been purchased anyway.
Now that’s a happy greeting!
I don’t have a vintage white chair like Debra, so the dark iron chair and white cushion will have to suffice.
Debra’s wire basket is another no-go for me, but I do have something to work with her burlap. I have a burlap basket. In my book, that’s a two-fer! The mister helped make it 7 years ago for another Pinterest Challenge. It’s one of my favorite projects and has been heavily used. If you’d like to see the DIY for it, click here.

In Debra’s photo, she had a tray settled in the back of her wire basket. Despite not having yet another thing, I can substitute the tray for a small vintage plate and saucer. The purple pattern is perfect.
Just look at those adorable vintage plates!
I enjoy taking an opportunity to use some of my vintage plates. The purple flowers are a standout feature for sure. And the plates are tucked in there nice and snug. I’ve tested it a few times now and feel somewhat confident they won’t fall out. I’ll ask for more testing when the mister gets home.

At least I have the flowering pots on the ground next to the chair.
At the end of the day, it looks nothing like Debra’s, but it has many of the same elements. That’s the wondrous thing about these challenges. You’re going to get a lot of different looks from the same photo. And sometimes, you just do what you can with what you have.
Next is my friend Cindy from DIY Beautify. I know you’ll love her charming vintage style.
