A Simple Spring Mantel and Pinterest Challenge

Spread the love

Hello my Peeps!  It’s Pinterest Challenge day again which makes today a totally fun day!  My friends and I are showing 16 spring looking mantels from 1 inspiration photo.  If you’ve joined me from Pamela’s blog, DIY Vibes, welcome – I’m excited to know you’re here!  Let’s get started with my simple spring mantel.

Our inspiration photo comes from Deborah over at Hip and Humble Style.  She has a DIY for her Cherry Blossom stems you might want to check out, but for now, here’s what I can work with from her spring mantel.

Hipe and HUmble style mantel

What I notice about this Pinterest Challenge

1. The black mirror

2. The white pitcher with pink stems

3. White cloth basket with greenery

4. Black candle sticks with white candles

Her mantel looks beautiful yet elegantly simple.  But because my mantel isn’t the same, I wanted to do something that works for my home instead.

Here’s what I did.

I didn’t use all of the same elements from Deborah’s mantel.  However, the first item used is a black mirror.  I took the one from my living room and used it even though it isn’t round.  I’m so glad I did.  Switching things around is fun because it saves so much money when wanting a change.

You’ll notice Deborah’s mantel wasn’t designed with symmetry in mind.  I find it difficult to do that with this mantel so 9 out of 10 times mine will be symmetrical because the wall around it is so large.  Anyway, concentrating on the greenery, I found these embossed galvanized buckets at Hobby Lobby.  The white details is what first caught my eye.  Aren’t they cute?!

The greenery stems are also from Hobby Lobby.  Instead of using that messy floral foam, I filled the wall buckets with brown paper bags so I only had to purchase 2 stems for each bucket.

Y’all are not going to believe this but those roses are real!  They were the Misters gift for me on Valentine’s Day.  I love them and decided to use those instead of pink stems.  I will definitely add more color to the mantel when it gets closer to Easter, but for now I like it like this.  BTW, it’s now the 24th and the roses still look amazing (full and no brown edges!)

That’s my simple spring mantel and Pinterest challenge interpretation of Deborah’s mantel.  I know for some of you it will be plain and not bright enough.  But for those of us wanting to hang on to spring and make it stretch as long as possible, this mantel has good bones and will be easy to add color to later.

Next up!

Don’t forget to check out all of the wonderful Spring inspiration below but next up is Christy at Our Southern Home.  She has quite the talent for decorating!

Very pretty, Cindy! I love your black mirror and how you flanked it with matching galvanized metal wall buckets filled with greenery. Your white pottery looks great on your black mantel and I love the white roses. My V-Day roses lasted a long time as well this year but now are starting to fade. This was a fun challenge and you did a great job with it!

Thank you Paula. It was a fun challenge. Now the challenge is how long I can keep those roses alive. I’ve been telling the Mister to check the water so I dare not touch them! :0

Love your spin on the Pinterest Challenge Cindy. I’m always looking for ironstone pitchers and yours are so pretty. Love those darling buckets too!

    • February 25, 2020 / 10:13 am

Thanks Michelle. I can’t find ironstone around here anywhere. Seems like everyone in Texas is collecting it. Guess that means we need to take a trip!
      Have a great week.

Cindy, first where did hubs get the roses? I’ve never heard of them lasting so long. Love those containers from Hobby Lobby. They could be used in so many places. Thanks for hosting the Pinterest Challenge. It’s such fun.

The Mister got the roses at Target! Can you believe it? We have both been saying they look fake and how lucky he was to find such a bunch. They must have just come off the truck. Thank you Carol.

  12. February 25, 2020 / 9:36 am

Love the black mirror and the sconces on the side. Filling them with plants is so pretty. I agree, it will be so easy to add tons of color when Spring really gets here and all summer long too.

    • February 25, 2020 / 10:35 am

I think so too Marty, thank you! I’ve already been planning what to do next. Need to get passed my daughters St. Patrick’s Day birthday first. It has to be all about her for now. 😉

You are so sweet Julie, thank you. I can hardly wait to see how long the roses last. I keep telling my hubby to make sure they have water because I’m afraid to touch them with my black thumb. Thanks for the Pin too! 🙂

    • February 25, 2020 / 10:41 am

Thank you Marlene! What a sweet compliment. My mom says that too. 😉 That’s one of those sayings I actually understand. Most of them go right over my head. LOL

  15. February 25, 2020 / 1:23 pm

Wow, I can’t believe those roses have lasted this long, Cindy! Tell your husband he gets lots of brownie points.

Your mantel looks perfect for the start of spring. I especially love the galvanized buckets. I was feeling the same way about adding more color to my mantel as we get closer to Easter. Our mantels can grow into Easter together!

Thanks again for hosting another wonderful Pinterest Challenge!

    • February 25, 2020 / 1:39 pm

I don’t remember ever seeing that mirror in your living room. Has it always been black? Of course, you do switch things around constantly. I guess that’s why your home always looks so fresh and timely. I love the black and white, but those galvanized planters are my favorite. Good job! And the Mister certainly knows how to pick ‘em. After all, he picked YOU!

    • February 26, 2020 / 2:45 pm

I’m sure if you asked the Mister now, he’d say the same thing although some days he’s scratching his head asking why. LOL The mirror has been in the same spot in the living room for like 5 years woman. And it’s been black for about 2 of those years. It was a rusty red before. 🙂

  19. February 26, 2020 / 11:28 am
