Hey there friends!  Are you still looking for fall decorating tips?  Well it’s time for the October Pinterest Challenge and we have lots of great ideas for using fall stems today!  If you’re hopping over from Laura’s blog – Everyday Edits, welcome!  I’m glad you are here and hope you see something you can duplicate in your own home.  Let’s start with 2 Ways To Use Fall Stems To Create Coziness In Fall Decor.  I’m sharing what I did with them on my porchette.

2 Ways To Use Fall Stems To Create Coziness In Fall Decor

For this Pinterest Challenge, our inspiration photo comes from Sarah at Sarah Joy Blog.  I love how she’s used those fresh stems!  The other things I notice about her vignette is a lantern, a basket of stems, a pumpkin and a fall throw.  All things I’d like incorporate in my vignette but change it a little to work with what I have and to look more like my style.

Remember when I posted these fall porch ideas?  Well here’s what I came up with for my own porchette.  I love the added coziness and color.  And it all came together super quick.  Here’s how I did it.

First Way to Use Fall Stems

fall leaves on a tree branch

Use Real Branches!

Unfortunately, when I went foraging for real fall branches, I found only two trees that were starting to change color.  The colors weren’t all that different but since I had a post needing to get done and our temps weren’t getting any cooler, I cut them anyway.  I hoped they’d turn a pretty autumn color before crumbling up and dying.

purple fall branches

And they did!  Just look at those beautiful purple, maroon, green and peachy colors!  Honestly, I never thought they’d be so pretty and with so many different hues.  And all I did to prepare these stems was cut them and put them in water.

orange mum, black lantern with candle and rusty bucket with stems

The slender rusty bucket is actually our umbrella holder which stands about 24 inches tall.  The branches weren’t tall enough so inside the bucket I stacked two half bricks, a garbage bag and a heavier vase with water to keep the bucket from blowing over in the wind.  I wish I could have added a few more branches.  Maybe next year.

As soon as I saw the branches with their new gorgeous color, I knew exactly which direction I was going to go with the porch.  Several years ago I bought two pillows from Pottery Barn.  I think the leaf colors work perfectly together.  Once you walk up on the area you can see all the colors together.  Seriously so pretty.

As you can see, I have a small porch.  Hence the word porchette.  So in order for me to feel cozy sitting out there spying on my neighbors, I like to surround myself so I don’t draw attention.  I don’t want them to see me seeing them.  πŸ˜‰  In order to do that, I decorate up as well as out with my decor.   If I really wanted to be incognito, I’d wear a gold hat so my head blended in with the gold leaves.  Now that I think about it, I’ll need a brownish hat.  I’m short.

You may not have any woods behind your house or may not want to traverse them if you did.  I had to muster up some courage for this one.   I made my daughter and her dog go first just in case there were any snakes.  That’s right, I’m not above sacrificing my child in order to save myself.  Now, I would jump in front of a car for one of them and give them a lung or even an eyeball if they needed it but when it comes to snakes, it ain’t happening.

Second Way To Use Fall Stems

If you’d rather do the faux thing, there’s no shame in that.  Don’t let anyone tell you differently.  Faker than fake is still great.  The gold leaves hanging in the basket on the brick wall behind the chair are fake.  Gen-you-wine plastic.  Plastic actually is the best kind for outdoors.  Just rinse them off before storing them away for the year.

So there you go – 2 Ways To Use Fall Stems To Create Coziness In Fall Decor.  Can you see me sitting behind this large chubby pumpkin waiting for the mailman?  I’m thinking since Halloween is coming, I’ll sit there and jump out and scare the UPS or Amazon delivery person.  LOL.  Don’t think I won’t!

Now it’s time to see what Rachell at The Ponds Farmhouse has done with fall stems.  And don’t forget to check out the others too.  I know you’ll see something you love.

Your porchette looks beautiful decorated for fall. It’s great that the live branch leaves turned beautiful colors for you. The pumpkin on your planter surrounded by faux foliage adds a nice pop of color along with your mums.

Thank you Paula. We moved those planters from the back porch and I think they’ll be staying. I like how it brightens the area more than the black planters did.

Cindy, great porch arrangements. Those mums are gorgeous. It’s been. Too warm this fall and too dry for beautiful fall color so I agree that faux is the way to go. Fake is fine. Thanks so much for hosting. Because of this challenge, our home looks so ready for fall.

I’m excited to hear that Carol. I love the challenges for that same reason as well. Hoping we both get some cooler (non-humid) weather soon.

My pleasure Rachel and thank YOU! It’s nice to have a small but cozy fall porch when people visit. Even if it is only UPS or Amazon deliveries. I’m sure they appreciate it too. πŸ˜‰

Your porch looks so cozy! I love your decorations. And if you jump out to scare the UPS driver, please record it and post it! 🀣

Deal! The only bad thing is I have to drench myself in mosquito spray in order to hang out there. They are still so bad here! But once they start to hibernate, I’ll be ready! πŸ™‚

I can TOTALLY see you being all sneaky and scaring your poor mailman! Can I join you? We would laugh so hard!!! Your porchette looks lovely with your branches decking it all out… and those mums. Just HAVE to mention those! Pinned, and thanks for hosting!

    • October 26, 2021 / 1:30 pm

Thank you Julie and YES! You are always welcome to join me. There are two sides to the little porchette and I agree, we’d have a ball and laugh until tears ran down our legs. LOL

Cindy, you are too funny! I’d love to be a pretty little bug on the wall (because ugly bugs are ew!) and watch you scare the Amazon driver, lol! This vignette you created with the harvested branches is so vibrant and cozy, I just love it! That large pumpkin sitting inside the wreath is a great idea too!

    • October 26, 2021 / 3:42 pm

Thank you friend. And yes, ugly bugs are ew! I will scare someone eventually. LOL. The pumpkin sitting on the white planter has garland around it. I don’t have two wreaths that are the same and there’s a matching one on the other side of the porchette. I wish I did have wreaths. Have a great week Cindy!

I love how your porchette turned out, and those leafy pillows really pull together all the colors. If we had snakes like you do, I’d never garden or go in my backyard-yeeks; hate snakes!

    • October 26, 2021 / 3:46 pm

What the cuss?! Y’all don’t have snakes?! Do you live in Heaven?! Can I come live with you or is there a house for sale in your neighborhood?! I’ll take anything!

  10. October 26, 2021 / 1:51 pm

You can always dress up like a scarecrow. Very incognito LOL! Love the colors on your porchette and I think your foraging really paid off. The leaves you found are perfect! Pinning!

    • October 26, 2021 / 3:48 pm

Thank you Michelle. I was so surprised at the beautiful colors! I could do a scarecrow. That would be fun. πŸ™‚

Thanks Marty. Those are my second round of mums. After getting some better advice on how to take care of them, I think these will last through Thanksgiving. Fingers crossed anyway! Thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoy your weekend!

This is really beautiful, Cindy! I love the branches you found and how you mixed them in with the pumpkins and mums too. They’re all fantastic. On a side note, I don’t know how you’re going to scare anyone. I would be giggling before they even got to the porch! Besides, the holidays are coming and you know want the delivery guys to be in a good mood 🀣

    • October 29, 2021 / 11:05 am

LOL CoCo. I hadn’t thought about the giggling. I will give myself away! I laugh at the drop of a hat so that isn’t going to work. Maybe I can talk one of my kids into doing it? πŸ˜‰ Thanks for the visit. Happy Fall!

Cindy, This was such a fun challenge. Fall decorating is such a joy. I just love the stems that you used. Can I just say how fabulous that pillow is!

Thank you Christy! I love fall decorating too. It seems like with the cooler colors I use for summer, I’m ready to hit the ground running with warmer tones. I got two of those pillow covers from Pottery Barn about 10 years ago and still love it! Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Loving your ideas Cindy!! Your porchette is the sweetest and the fall branches are perfect. Now I want to go out and find some of my own! I’m excited to feature this post in this week’s Tuesday Turn About Link Party. Hope to see you at the party this week! Pinned πŸ™‚

    • September 8, 2022 / 4:56 pm

Thank you for thinking it feature worthy and for the pin! I hope you do go out and clip some real branches. We’re lucky to have a full forest behind us. Just have to avoid the critters. Happy Weekend!
