Spring Decorating Ideas For A Small Porch

Spread the love

For those of us who have a less-than-substantial porch, you’ve come to the right place.  I call what we have a porchette.  The size is almost perfect.  It’s large enough for a couple of chairs, and small enough to keep clean with a quick sweep.  The best part is that it doesn’t cost a small fortune to decorate.  So if you would like a few spring decorating ideas for a small porch, keep reading.

Today is Design Challenge Day.  It’s the same as a Pinterest Challenge, but now, instead of finding an image on Pinterest, we’ve widened our search to all social media platforms.  You’ll get to see the other participants at the bottom.

porch with bench, ferns, basket on door and concrete bunnies Velveteen and Grace

Our inspiration image this month comes from Velveteen and Grace on Instagram.  And even though my porchette is much smaller, that doesn’t mean I can’t incorporate some of her super cute ideas.  Here’s what I see in the photo that I plan to include.

  • flowers or plants
  • bunny
  • something hanging on the front door
  • pillows and cushions with seating
  • a rug
  • hang a frame or picture on the wall
  • a basket

Yes, I see the ugly water ring around the pots and the black stain from – not me.  And I’ve already mentioned to the Mister that we have to do something about it.  He said he’d get to it when he comes home.  I’m so nice, I’ll make sure to leave a sweet note so he doesn’t forget.

Let’s start with the door.  I painted it again!  It might look like a basic black, but it’s not.  I wanted a charcoal color with a touch of brown to coordinate with our brick.  And Sherwin Williams, Iron Ore #7069, was perfect.  The prior colors were around for years, so it was time for a change.  If you’d like to see those, click here and here.

Most of the time, I hang a basket on the front door and forgo a wreath.  This time around, I’ve decided to make up for lost years and have a profusion of wreaths.

The boxwood wreath with the half bunny body (this is not an affiliate link for the bunny, but this is where I got it) is not only a show stopper but quite the conversation piece.  I was hoping to find a back half so I could hang it on the inside of the door.  LOL!  If anyone finds one, please let me know so I can get it!

I can’t say enough about how much I enjoy having the metal wall trellis anchored to the brick.  We installed it about 15 years ago by screwing it into the brick (not the mortar).  There’s one on each side of the porchette for symmetry, and they allow me to hang all kinds of fun things on them.  So, not only are they handy, but they look nice even when empty.

spring rug at front door with a vintage basket and iron chairIdea #4 – Bring the indoors out.

You’ve heard people say, bringing the outdoors in makes your home feel more cozy, right?  Well, I like to bring the indoors out as well.  Have you ever thought of buying a washable rug instead of a regular doormat?  You can see for yourself how adorable they are!  This one came from a spring market, but I know there are plenty on Amazon and Etsy.  I love this one for the colors.  It screams springtime!

green and white sash tied around a boxwood wreath hanging over an outdoor light fixtureIdea #5 – Don’t forget to decorate your light fixtures.

BTW, I have a question about doormats.  I realize it’s popular to layer a small rug underneath a doormat.  But why?  It’s a tripping hazard around here, and honestly, I don’t want to cover up the prettiest part.  So if you understand the why, please let me in on the secret.

The last idea is adding a wreath around your light fixtures.  I bought these from the AT HOME store about 5 years ago.  They are just now looking like they’ve seen better days.  Much like the other project on the list – paint the outdoor lights!

You can add ribbon, flowers, or even battery-operated lights to the wreaths.  This year I wanted a sash.  They come with seasonal prints, lots of designs, and even monogrammed, but they can get somewhat expensive.  The pair I purchased is very inexpensive, so I’m trying these out first before I get one monogrammed.  It’s only been a week, but so far, I love them!

Those are my spring decorating ideas for a small porch.  Did you notice that no matter what size porch you have, you can create a welcoming, cozy, and springified space?!  😉

Now it’s time to see how my friends interpreted the inspiration photo.  Hop on over to DIY Beautify.  I know you’ll find her porch as charming as I do!

Lovely! Do you have a link for the wreath with the moss rabbit in the middle?

    • March 24, 2026 / 3:19 pm

I’ve linked them both in the post but unfortunately, I got the rabbit at Old Marketplace in Bryan Texas and cannot find one online anywhere. Maybe you can order one from them? Here’s the number and link for their store. https://www.oldbryan.com/. or 979 -779-3245.

And here’s one for the outdoor wreath. https://amzn.to/41pY0WV
      Hope that helps!

Cindy, I love all of the wreaths!!! The half-bunny is adorable and I would never have guessed it was a half. It would be really funny to have the other half on the inside. 😉 I just bought a cute spring outdoor mat from Costco for out front. Little rugs work great!

Thank you for the small porch ideas and thanks again for hosting,
    Barb 🙂

I can see the touch of brown in your black front door. Great choice with your brick. That bunny wreath 😍where did you find that? Our front porch isn’t even a porchette, it’s an old fashioned stoop like Grandma had. Double doors wide but very little room to decorate.

Beautiful Cindy. Okay where did you get a boxwood wreath so big? I have looked and they are a fortune. Help a girl out with where you got yours. Thank you

Cindy, you have the perfect brick color, and I adore the arched entryway! I am dying over that bunny front… do you think they sell the butt?? That would be too cute! Love how you kept it simple yet very classic! Pinned

I sooooo wish they had the bunny butt but they don’t. lol.
I love our brick color. The front of the house leans itself to a slight French Country look and I wish I could paint the trim a soft gray blue or green but the HOA won’t go for it. :/ Thank you Cindy! Happy spring!

Your porch is so pretty, love the colors of your rug, the bunny wreath and the wreaths on your lights. Your porch may be small but you have everything you need to sit and enjoy the Spring weather, if it’s not too hot!!

Girlfriend, last weekend it was 95 degrees! I am not ready for that. But the weatherman said it will be back in the 70’s soon. I’m crossing my fingers AND toes! Thanks bunches Marlene. Hope you are having cool days in OK.

Wow your porch looks beautiful Cindy! I love SW iron ore which was the color of our previous front door. You have such good taste my friend! I’m also loving your clever bunny wreath and your flowers. I didn’t even notice the water stain with everything else looking so refreshed! Happy spring!

    • March 24, 2026 / 8:42 pm

Aww, thank you Michelle. I feel better now about the ugly stains. But, we are still hoping to fix that soon. I’ve even power washed it and nothing changed. Anyway, thanks again. You are the best!

Yay, I’m glad you found me! That bunny head is a cutie for sure and I’m still on the hunt for the back half. 🙂 I adore Missy’s blog and her home as well. That girl lives in technicolor! Thanks for stopping by. Happy Spring.

I am obsessed with your half bunny! And brilliantly styled with the boxwood wreath. Your porch is gorgeous and so perfect for spring!

    • March 27, 2026 / 5:16 pm

I appreciate that because I’m having to blow all the ugly tree pooky off every dang day to keep it looking nice. Thank you Missy. Hope you’re enjoying your beautiful porch. Happy spring!
