A couple of years ago, we painted the kitchen walls and ceiling green. Privilege Green by Sherwin Williams, to be exact. That began what my youngest calls my green era. Even though I’ve loved green for decades, I can’t get enough, and I’m not sure that’s going to change anytime soon. I also love repurposing and using my collection of green pottery. It looks so nice with the kitchen walls.
A Colorful Collection-Filled Spring Tablescape
Recently, I needed a quick and easy tablescape for some friends and decided to incorporate some of my favorite pieces. So, let me share a colorful collection-filled spring tablescape with you. And hopefully, you’ll be motivated to use your collections too?!
Despite being in a hurry, it’s still important to me to find an inspirational piece first. My brain loves so many looks and ideas that the inspiration piece keeps me focused. And when I’m crunched for time, it’s mandatory.
Table runners are great inspiration starters.
I pulled out the bright, lemony table runner. Does it get any more cheerful than that?! I got it from HomeGoods and couldn’t be happier. BTW, if your table runner, napkins, or tablecloth are wrinkly, iron them. If you go to the trouble of creating a nice table and have an unsightly table runner, etc., it makes the entire table unappealing.
If you don’t have time to iron, lightly spray it with water, shake it out, then use your hands to smooth it flat. That will help a lot.
My collection of pottery isn’t the same, but the color brings them together.
I always decide on the centerpiece next, and it’s a given in most of my tablescapes to use fresh flowers. That means my lettuce ware vase was at the top of my list.
The color story throughout our house is pink and green. Choosing pink tulips keeps the colors consistent and pulls the pink out in the table runner.
Did you notice the fun little bees on the table runner? I could have gone with a bee theme because I made some darling bee skeps one year, but remember, I’m in my green era right now. LOL.
I’m using my collection to help set the table.
I grabbed a few woven placemats and green ceramic plates (also from Homegoods) that I found last year. They really pop on my white kitchen table.
If you want to take your table up a notch, layer the place settings. I enjoy using a rectangular placemat, a round placemat, and then a charger on top of that.

But beware, the well-mannered etiquette police might turn their nose up at you. I say, oh well, and who cares?! I find it delightful for the right occasion. But this go ’round, I only had time for quick and easy.
I did, however, decide to mix the salad plates. Do you like doing that? I’m a plate hoarder, so mixing them allows me to use others more often. Choose plates with similar colors, and your table will look intentional and interesting.
I love my little cabbageware salt and pepper shakers.
After the place settings, all I needed to do was add my green pottery pieces. And the little snacky desserts were perfect.

If I have a large cake or pie, I don’t usually add it to the table. But since I didn’t have time to make one, little bite-sized desserts are perfect.
And I think they’re even more perfect when they’re with a piece of vintage pottery. I had small chocolate mousse eggs and peanut butter-filled M&M’s. Nothing special or fancy, but enough to make it seem like I had something.

Well, that’s it, folks. I hope you can see that if you have an inspiration piece, then a colorful collection-filled spring tablescape comes together quite nicely.
Besides the normal candlesticks, plates, and glassware, here are some other collections I think would make for a beautiful tablescape.
Try these collection ideas!
- Tea cups and saucers or mugs
- Figurines of any kind
- Vases or pretty bottles
- Vintage books or cameras
- Travel memorabilia
- Birds, bird nests, bird cages, bird houses
- Rabbits, ducks, geese, swans
- Mushrooms
- Chinoiserie
- Topiaries

I love your collection and the way you used it. I think these cabbage sets have been around for a long time because, I remember my mother having a set when I was growing up, don’t know what happened to them. I love the pretty lemon table runner and your mix of pottery and all the layering. I also love your addition of pretty candy, which unlike the candy on my table, is actually for eating! Those chocolates are adorable and add such a “sweet” touch! The pink tulips are real eye candy too!

LOLOL. We had home group over on Friday to play corn hole and they said I matched the house. I had on black plants and a green linen shirt.
