My Favorite Fall Moments Around The House

Spread the love

I always say yes to anything that has to do with fall.  Yes, to sitting around the fire pit.  Yes, to taking a walk in the woods for leaf peeping or taking a drive to another city for an outdoor lunch.  I’ll even try a new soup or hot tea, even when I’m not a fan of either.  But my favorite thing to do is find autumn colors in everyday treasures at an antique store.  The pieces I buy are spread around the house and give everyone here the fall feels.  So here are my favorite fall moments around the house.

I’m joining some friends in fall hop called Seasonal Saturdays hosted by Amber from Follow The Yellow Brick Home.  She is one of my favorite people in the blogging world.  She is always sharing the best inspiration.

If you’ve hopped over from Laura at Decor to Adore, thank you!  Laura is a great friend and supporter who lives not to far from me.  Didn’t you think her guest bedroom was a place you’d like to visit?!

My Favorite Fall Moments Around The House

I used to bring out fall garlands, fall stems, pillows, throws, and pumpkins galore.  Maybe it’s my age, but these days, I’ve toned it down quite a bit.  Now I keep things to a minimum and incorporate special items into my everyday decor.

Small antique shelf hanging on kitchen wall with vintage pottery and plates in fall colorsMore storage and more display opportunities!

This year, I was lucky enough to find some charming things in the antique stores that have autumn colors.  I’ve been excited after finding this darling little shelf.  If you too are a collector, then you understand that finding more shelves to display your collections is fantastic.

And I was thrilled to find it and start adding a few vintage finds.  Including this ceramic apple (maybe a cookie jar) canister.  It’s only about 10 inches tall and 6 inches wide.  What do you think it was made for?

Small vintage pitcher with grapes on the outside and a smaller gold creamer with green and yellow candles sitting insideI don’t mind crazing.  Now it’s got character, like my face. 😉

With the colors going on in my kitchen, I’ll be able to keep the same pieces displayed all year round.  But who am I trying to kid?  I can’t keep something in the same spot for more than a few months.  LOL.

Moving on to the living room, the cubby shelf is another favorite piece I enjoy decorating.  There’s a lot of room for many more treasures!

large vintage brown ale pitcher with a bird and acorns on the outsideGah, this ale pitcher with the hops and bird is a new fave!

Earlier, when I said I was lucky to find some charming things, I lied.  This find is more than charming.  It’s fantastic!  In all my years of perusing, I’ve never seen such a large vintage pitcher.  After some digging, I think it’s an ale pitcher from the late 1800s.  I don’t love research, so I could be wrong, but the description fits.  However, whether it is or isn’t, it’s all mine and I love it.

Something else I collect are original vintage paintings.  I won’t pay a lot for any of them so I don’t have a large collection.  This one is ideal for showing off the duck I found a couple of weeks ago.  Isn’t he handsome?  I think he’s aged perfectly.

two biscuit jars with handles and a fall majolica pitcher in the background

I couldn’t pass up another biscuit jar.  The one on the right didn’t have a lid, so I added a candle inside.  So now it’s the cutest candle holder you’ve ever seen!  Just look at all that autumn color.

vintage dark gold swinging frame with a stem of leaves inside

Adding a stem to this vintage swinging frame is a great way to use fall colors.  I could have chosen a stem with orange and red colors, but at the time, there were none.  Especially with the extra long summer we had.

Vignettes in the Entryway

white hutch styled for fall with books, greenery, plates, lamp and an autumn landscape painting.

The hutch in the entry hasn’t changed much since September.  Except for the tiny little lamp.  It didn’t come with a lamp shade, and that’s the smallest one I could find.

Each day as I walk through the entry, the brightly colored hutch creates a pep in my step.  Even if the temperatures outside are in the high 80s and not fall-like at all.

Last but not least are a few areas in the dining room that I go out of my way to see.

Dining Room Vignettes

Just one faux fall stem in a glass vase is all I needed to turn this everyday vignette into something autumnal.   I might just add some real cedar or pine for Christmas and leave it.  Do you mix faux stems with real ones?  I think it elevates the grouping when mixed.

The small silver plated creamer usually has white candles inside.  I simply changed the colors of the candles to keep things easy.

Aww, thank you Laura. That made my day. Are you enjoying this lovely weather we’re having? I’d like it to be about 110-15 degrees cooler but still enjoying it now.

That little apple canister is a cutie and was super cheap! I’d seen it in the store for months and felt she needed a proper home. THank you so much Shelley.

You are a savvy collector, and I love all your fall finds! May that covered apple jar was for apple butter? Who knows, but it’s fabulous. Love your new shelf too.

LOL, I wouldn’t go so far as saying “savvy”, but thank you! I just pick up what I like and it has to be cheap. 😉 When I saw the little apple jar a long time ago, I intended to buy it but forgot. Plus, it was up on the third floor, it was hot, and I wasn’t going back up there. But thankfully, months later, she was still there. I’ve never thought of apple butter. Maybe so!

Cindy this post is full of vintage goodness! Your shelves are styled to perfection! I love all of your finds and like you, I am over the totes of pumpkins and fall stems. I have my velvet pumpkins and a few other little pumpkins, but I also prefer just bringing in seasonal looks with treasures and natural elements.

I love mixing in real evergreen cuttings with faux evergreens. It makes everything smell good.

That pitcher is fabulous and I love you leaf in the frame idea!

Also my face is crazing too so we are in the same boat,

Thank you for the sweet comment in the introduction. You are certainly one of my blogging faves!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you Amber. I enjoyed decorating this year more than in the past and I know it was because it didn’t look like Hobby Lobby threw up all over the house. Goodnes, how did I ever think that looked good?! Happy fall friend.

I had to laugh at that first self-satisfied pumpkin lounging in a sterling silver bowl…such a life…grins. You have some lovely pieces. I’m a sucker for any kind of antique pottery and natural decor, lovely melange. Sandi

You made ME laugh at the lounging pumpkin! Thank you so much Sandi. Happy fall!
