Spread the love

Hello friends, and welcome to Farmhouse Friday 411.  Remember the days when we could dial 411 and get the information we needed from a live person?  Did you know that in some areas they still have it?!  I’m tempted to try it and see what it’s like talking to a real person (in the USA).  Perhaps she’d be just as interested in talking to me, since she probably doesn’t receive many calls anymore.  😉

I’ve been cleaning and removing the summer decor we had in the house.  At least the downstairs area.  There’s no time to deal with the upstairs landing until we get back from Mackinac Island.  Have you been?  I’m super excited for the cooler temperatures!  We will fly into Kentucky, then road trip up there, stay a couple of days, and road trip back down to fly home.

Do you have a suggestion on where else we visit or what to see?  I’ve planned a few antique stores and an afternoon at the Noah’s Ark replica.  And the Mister has reservations at a couple of distillery’s.  We’d love suggestions if you know of something we shouldn’t miss.

FARMHOUSE FRIDAY 411

In honor of the 411 ladies out there, our feature theme this week is – things we should know.  In our world that’s called a DIY or a How To.  There were so many to choose from that I had a very difficult time selecting only four features.  So I have five.  Still not enough, but let’s get started.

white curtain with red paisley block print hanging in windowBlock print is a huge trend this year but guess what, people in the south have loved it for decades.  Much like wallpaper.  It was never “out” for us.  Check out Missy’s post at Sonata Home Design for ideas on decorating with block prints.  You’ll see something there you learn and incorporate!

gray seerssucker napkins with homemade shell napkin ringsMaryJo at Masterpieces of My Life shows off how to make sea shell napkin rings.  We could all use info on that DIY.  Perfect for summer and just think what else you could make when you learn that skill.  Yes, please.

cooked peach galette I know most peach desserts have been around long before dialing 411 which means Kippi At Home has probably perfected the Peach Galette.  Just look at how delicious that looks?  Get the recipe and share it with friends!

AI print of a black dog roasting a marshmallow with a fire and tent in the backgroundI’ll admit, I do not like AI.  But when I saw this idea from Niky at The House On Silverado I was smiling from ear to ear.  She used Chat GPT to create lots of  prints of her pup.  Pop over to see how she did it so you can make some of your own.  So cute.

wooden board with rosemary salt, bowl and spoon sitting on topArlene from Flour On My Face is showing us how to get make Rosemary Salt.  She makes it look easy.  And I’m thinking Christmas gifts!

FARMHOUSE FRIDAY 411 PARTY GUIDELINES:

  • By linking up, you get a chance to be featured here at next week’s party and across social media accounts which includes the Farmhouse Friday board on Pinterest
  • When linking to this party, you are permitting us to share your posts and pictures via social media and as features, roundups, etc. with a link back to your post or a link back to this party on the week your post is featured.

You are so welcome Missy. The fabric store is kinda far but I am hoping to go next week hoping to find a block print I can use somewhere. I’d love to do a lampshade because I can’t justify paying the price of them these days.

When y’all are doing Fall Cleaning (or Spring, or whenever you walk by your front door and notice it needs to be cleaned)….. The outside of your front door usually needs a cleaning too! Ours is stained wood but painted wood also benefits from spray lemon furniture polish on it. And, if you’ve neglected it and it’s faded out from sun & rain ~ then use Lemon Oil or Orange Glow on it to renew it back to it’s original shine!

I plan to paint our front door this fall when the weather is nicer. Thank you for the cleaning advice! As much as I clean (really just a wipe down), it never looks that great. I’m putting lemon oil on the shopping list. Hope you have an exciting weekend Cynthia. 🙂

You really got my attention with the 411 information opener. That was my first job. Information operator for the Bell System. Went to work the summer I was 16, turning 17 yrs. Then it became Directory Assistance for callers.

Have always wanted to visit Mackinac Island and may do so one day. Guess you are flying into Louisvile and hitting our distilleries here. I live in Bardstown, KY, Bourbon capital of the world. We are very populated with distilleries in this small town. People come feom all over to do the Bourbon Trail.

Enjoy your trip and safe travels!

    • August 15, 2025 / 4:32 pm

How exciting! Did you love it? I think I would have really enjoyed that job. I’ll have to ask the hubby if Bardstown is on our list. All I have to say is Bourbon capital of the world and he’s all ears. 😉 Thank you Diane!

I’m so excited to hear you are going to Mackinac Island. We live in Michigan and have been there numerous times. In fact, our daughter got married at St. Anne’s church! It was so lovely. The Grand Hotel is a must see. The gardens are beautiful. Jack Barnwell is on Youtube and has designed and maintained many gardens on the island. I highly recommend watching his shows. Of course, Somewhere in Time is such a beautiful movie. We always have lunch at the Pink Pony. Their whitefish dip is delicious! There is a carriage ride that takes you around to see the island without having to rent a bike, which can be brutal pedaling against the wind! The downside of the island is that it is crowded in the summer. They do a great job of cleaning up after the horses, but you still get a whiff now and then. They are known for their fudge, which is delicious! Don’t miss the mansions on the West Bluff, the governor’s mansion and the fort. I hope you have a wonderful time on such a beautiful island!

    • August 15, 2025 / 4:38 pm

Oh my goodness Ellen, you made my day! Thank you for telling me about the bikes vs. the carriage, especially since neither of us thought about the wind. And thanks for the recommendation on the Pink Pony and the fudge. Both of those will be on the must do list. You are awesome Ellen, thank you so much!

Ohhh I so envy you …my honey and I went there for some anniversary and stayed at a Bed & Breakfast right next door to St. Anne Church….it was lovely on the first morning, we woke up to hoofbeats out on the cobblestone street…it really was like “Somewhere in Time” aka the movie, which is my favorite of all time…you will so enjoy that island …we rented bikes and then stopped at a pub for lunch…lovely vacation….enjoy the beautiful scenery…

    • August 16, 2025 / 9:49 am

I guess I need to watch that movie. A lot of people have said it’s one of their all time favorites. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am looking forward to seeing the church and touring the entire island. Hope you have a great weekend Marianne. Thanks again.
