FARMHOUSE FRIDAY 296

Spread the love

Happy Fri-Yay!  Today is Farmhouse Friday 296 and I have more great features for you.  But before we get to that, I could use some help.  Tomorrow we are attending a black-tie wedding.  In all my 50+ years I’ve never been to such a fancy wedding.  For 6 weeks I’ve been panicking about my attire.  Not the Mister.  He told me – oh, I’ll just wear my tux.  I just rolled my eyes and mimicked (in quite the sassy voice) what he said to me.  I know what you’re thinking.  Can he still squeeze into it?  How is that tux from the 90’s still in style?!  Well, would you believe double breasted tuxedos are in style again?  I had no idea.  Good thing we chose wisely all those years ago.  And yes, begrudgingly I admit, he still fits it.  It’s a little tight around the mid section so it makes me want to pinch him as hard as I can.

I, on the other hand, am so nervous about my outfit.  I can’t find anything I like that I’m willing to spend the money on because I’ll probably never have such an occasion again.  I’m wearing a fluffy black tulle skirt that I made a couple of years ago.  Yep I sewed.  It was for a prom night themed New Years Eve party.  It has an elastic waist and is a bit uneven on the bottom.  However, my goal is to quickly sit when we get there and then dance the rest of the time.  I think if I continue dancing, no one will actually notice the hem.  Fun fact:  That NYE we went home with the Prom King and Queen award.  😉

FARMHOUSE FRIDAY 296

The reason I’m nervous is because I wore that during the winter.  The top won’t work for spring and I only have a black body suit to wear this time.  PLEASE – Anyone have an idea on how to dress that up?  I have a long satin ribbon for a belt but no clue what else to do!  I can use all the help I can get so let me know what you’d do.  Thanks in advance!

Time check out this week’s fabulous features from Farmhouse Friday 295.

basket of gifts for mom including an apron and jars of foodI cannot believe it’s almost Mother’s Day!  I’m late to that game for sure but Heidi at Eleanor Rose Home has a fun and beautiful idea for us.  I’m hoping to pass this along to my own kids because I want it!  😉

orange front door and painted porch with plantsDiane from In My Own Style shows off her new painted porch and the steps to do it yourself!  I’ve always wanted to do this to the back porch.  Looks great!

yellow pie with black forkHave you ever heard of using saltine crackers for a pie crust?  What about an Atlantic Beach Pie?  I have not but found this fascinating!  Already looking for a reason to try it out this week.  Thank you Jen from Cincy Shopper!  I’m hooked.

vintage blue scaleI’ve been swooning over this all week.  I love a good vintage find and Mel from Lost and Found Decor shares tips to find the best stuff and things you shouldn’t pass up!  Check out her ideas!

Haahaha Oh Cindy! You gave me a good chuckle first thing this morning. Have you ever shopped on ThredUp?? It’s an online thrift store…you might be able to find something to wear on there. I shop it all the time and have been very impressed. Happy weekend!

Thanks for the feature! As for the outfit . . . I’m with you! There is not a single thing in my closet appropriate for black tie, lol! Maybe some statement jewelry? I bet you could find some blingy costume jewelry at a thrift store?

    • April 21, 2023 / 1:33 pm

I’ve never thought to buy jewelry at a thrift store but that sounds perfect! I’ll get to shopping. Thank you Melanie.

My pleasure Heidi. And I hadn’t either but excited to try it! Saltines and cheese make my day. Hmmm, cheese pie? LOL, no.

I think a black body suit with a tulle skirt sounds amazing! What about adding a fascinator or some chunky jewelry? No doubt you’ll look amazing no matter what you choose to wear. You’re bright and funny and incredibly kind and fun to be and they are lucky to have you at the wedding. Can’t wait to hear how it all goes! Take lots of pictures and big hugs, CoCo

Well I’m going to have to look up what a fascinator looks like. I’m very intrigued. And thanks for the sweet talk. I’m excited to go. Haven’t seen some of these people in 20 years! Thankfully I just had my hair colored. LOL!

Oh, I don’t envy you having to come up with an outfit. I can’t remember the last time I was forced to get out of my stretchy pants. Have fun, though!!

If we hadn’t replied yes to the tenderloin dinner, I know the hubs would say forget it. 😉 I’ll probably be the only one in flats though. But that’s okay, I know the others will wish they’d worn them too.

Sounds like a fun wedding! Chicos has a nice selection of dresses that might be worth a look. It might save you time without spending an obscene amount of money for a one day event-or it might give you a reason to dress up for new years ;0)
Thanks for the party Cindy. This post was great. We can all relate! xo laura in Colorado (ps woke up to 2 ” of snow-i just put out all the cushions!

    • April 23, 2023 / 5:34 pm

Oh my word! Snow in April?! I can’t even imagine. Thanks bunches Laura.

  12. April 23, 2023 / 2:08 pm

Cindy, Amazon sells pashminas in almost any color imaginable which you could wear as a shawl over your bodysuit/skirt and for low price (i bought one for a wedding thay I think I paid less than $15. Depending on how you feel, you could choose a safe color or go bold. I think some statement jewelry – either thrifted, or even Target or TJMaxx – would look great too. Have fun, be confident!

    • April 23, 2023 / 5:35 pm

Thanks so much Rita! I hadn’t thought of a pashmina! Have a great weekend.
