A fun craft and gift idea for your pet loving friends!

Spread the love

Hello Friends!  Are you greeting others with a giant smile and saying Merry Christmas or are you wondering if that last piece of cherry pie is considered a breakfast food?  Are you singing carols and letting people take the last parking spot or are you a bit like me with pumpkins sitting in the urns out front and pieces of pinecones crunching under foot as you walk through the house?  Maybe you’re completely done with decorating and shopping?!  If that’s the case, wow, I’m super jealous and wondering when you will come over here and give me a lesson in organization.  I clearly need it because my house is a wreck.  But this is the week I’m getting it all together.  Starting with a fun craft and gift idea for your pet loving friends!  It’s cute and easy.

Around here, we are dog loving people.  Yep!  All shapes, sizes and colors.  I’d probably like cats too but I’m allergic so I’ll never really know.  Although the feline’s I’ve met seem a bit sassy and there’s only room in our house for one sassy lassie and that spot has already been declared.

We’ve always had small lap dogs.  Well recently our daughter adopted a puppy (the vet thinks he’s about a year old) that is large enough that I don’t have to bend down to pet his head which is appealing to me.  He’s quite rambunctious compared to our little old guy and he can easily knock things over (like a side table) or get so quiet that you better find him or your nice leather loafer is now a weird mans flip flop.

Anyway, since he’s still a puppy, we can’t let him out in the front yard yet without him running off.  And his legs and my legs are not even in the same zip code so I can’t catch him when he sees another dog or squirrel or bird or a balloon or another human he thinks wants to play with him.  So obviously, we need more practice and a good plan if things go awry.  Like this oh-so-cute gift idea!

Supplies To Make A Pet Name Tag:

A Metal Stamping Kit like this one at Hobby Lobby (on sale this week!)

Metal Tags  like these at Michaels (they carry plain bone shapes at Hobby Lobby but I can’t find on website)

Split Key Rings

A Sharpie to darken letters after it’s stamped

name tags with Summit and Cooper names

Steps To Make A Pet Name Tag:

Step One:  Pull out each letter in the name and space them out evenly across the tag.  You’ll want to have a trial stamp or a scrap piece of metal to practice on.  If you don’t get a stamping kit that comes with a hard surface to stamp on, make sure you find something that’s super hard.  We have a scrap piece of granite.  The cement ground works okay but pounding them out on a table doesn’t work.  The stamps will move around on you.

Step Two:  Stamp out the name and any other designs you want.  Do the name first then the extra design.  Our daughter’s dogs name is Summit so he got mountain tops and trees.  Cooper (our dog) just got the trees.  There are so many cute designs to choose from you’ll have a hard time choosing one or two.  Don’t forget to stamp the back of the tag with your phone number just in case they get lost.

Step Three and Four:  After it’s finished, go over the stamped markings with a Sharpie to make the letters stand out.  When it’s dry (like 4 seconds), attach the split ring and on to the collar it goes!

Voila!  You’ve just made a fun craft and gift idea for your pet loving friends they will love!  Isn’t it so cute?!  Everyone likes receiving a handmade gift and when you’ve thought of their furry children, the gift is even more special.  Let me know if you make some.  I’d love to see them!

Merry Christmas Friends and Happy Crafting!

so cute Cindy!! what a handsome fella, but yes, he looks like he might be a bit strong. I remember being dragged down the street by my daughter’s English Bulldog… in my pajamas!

Thank you Debra. Imagining you being dragged down the street in your pajamas had me laughing out loud! The one and only time I let him outside to check the mailbox with me he had me running from house to house while he was trying to find the barking dog. I won’t do that again. I just knew I was going to open up TikTok and see where someone caught the entire escapade on their phone for all to see.

Hi, Cindy! Question for you on the cute pet tag craft: how did you do the mountains, trees? Thanks! Sandra

Hi Sandra. The mountains and trees are also a stamp just like the letters. We got them from Hobby Lobby. Hope you make a tag or two! Happy New Year
