A Happy Holiday Cozy Winter Home Tour With Neutral Colors

Howdy friends!  I’m excited to share today’s post with you.  It’s time for the annual Christmas Hoe Tours hosted by Marty from A Stroll Thru Life along with the help of Anne and AnnMarie at Simply 2 Moms.  I’m sharing a happy holiday cozy winter home tour with neutral colors.  The tours are all week long, so check out each day for amazing Christmas inspiration! collage of home decor tours If you’ve landed here from Bungalow 47, welcome!  Did you adore Jill’s pretty blue and white decorating ideas?  Did you say wowza, her home is fantastic?  I certainly did!  Her blog is new to me but now I am a forever fan.

A Happy Holiday Cozy Winter Home Tour With Neutral Colors

If this is your first time here, howdy, I’m Cindy.  A Texas girl captivated by home decorating and immersed in doing so with our everyday home (today’s tour) in the suburbs of Dallas and the almost 100 year old farmhouse in a small town further south on County Road 407.

This Christmas season has been slow going in the decorating department.  I’ve been in a knee-high boot a few weeks now for an Achilles issue mixed with a bone spur.  Fun times.

Had I known how pokey I’d be at literally everything, I would have started Christmas decorating in September.

And may I ask – why is momma still required to do all the things even in a boot?  Not me grumbling.  Asking for a friend.

That being said, the holiday decor around here is very minimal this year.  It’s still cozy but definitely less.  At first I thought it was going to be horribly ugly and I’d be cancelling all tours and quite possibly all blogging.  But surprisingly, it’s growing on me more each day.

What could be the best part of this whole minimal Christmas decorating/boot thing is that with only a few minor changes, this type of decorating can work all winter long.  Hip hip!

black mantel in dining room with white stockings and candles. Table with fresh greens, white plates. Our Christmas Dining room.

For years I’ve said, less is more, stop buying stuff and use what you already have.  I stick to that motto for the most part because I tend to purchase things I love so I automatically want to use it all year round.  However, from the look of the attic, that motto should have started back in 1990.  Clearing out the attic will be a 2024 project for sure.  Yay (insert rolling eyes).

So as we start the neutral and easy holiday tour, my best piece of advice is to keep each room cohesive by using the same color palette or theme.

collage of white and green holiday decor of stockings, plate and candle

If you like pink and black or red and green or purple and orange that is fine.  Just make sure the colors you choose are what is most noticeable as you move from room to room.  That way each space looks intentional.

Stone Christmas mantel with green garland, small tree and large wooden bellsOur casual living room/daily hangout room.

The first several photos were of the entry and dining room.  As you walk through to the living room, the calm, neutral theme is still present.  The only thing I purchased new this year are hanging on the mantel.  The large wooden bells are from Walmart.  Last time I checked, they still had some.  They are affordable and look fantastic!

Besides the bells, using what I already have has made my holiday decorating so much easier.  The large black metal piece over the mantel has been there all summer.  Last year I changed out the curtains for Christmas but with this heavy boot on, the ladder wouldn’t have been the smartest idea so the everyday curtains stayed.

green and gray velvet pillows on white sofa with flocked tree in background

The pillows are green and gray to keep things interrelated.  On the side table, I changed out the white neutral books with dark green ones for more color.  When doing so, I noticed the gold print on the book binding shows off the brass horse.  Just a small detail most people won’t even notice but I do.

Over on the other side of the living room are some of my favorite pieces of furniture.  The 2 checked chairs and the large cubby shelf.  The shelf unit gets moved around a lot.  It’s been in the dining room and in the entry, but so far, I like it here the most.  Even if the entire seating area had to be shoved over towards the windows.

You may not see anyone else arranging furniture this way but I love it and that’s what matters most, right?  Why yes, yes it does.

large cubby shelf with white ceramics, brown doll house and Christmas trees

The little white houses I made in pottery class are usually somewhere throughout the house.  But when some friends and I were headed for a glamping trip last month, we saw the doll house.  Thankfully the wonderful friend who actually saw it first is generous and let me have it.  What do you think off putting little houses inside a doll house?  It’s fun.

Cindy, your home looks beautiful! So many pretty touches such as the bows and the idea to put pine cones in the plant. Though, I think my favorite is the dollhouse with all the little houses inside. It’s so rustic and pretty! Thanks for the lovely tour, friend!
    Cheers! – Shelley

I couldn’t think of a word for it but yes – rustic is a great description. Thanks so much Shelley. Merry Christmas!

Oh, Cindy. Your home looks so beautiful all decked out for the holidays. I love the cozy neutrals. My favorite is your gorgeous tablescape. The greenery paired with the mercury glass ornaments is so pretty!

So happy to be touring with you this week, friend. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

    • December 7, 2023 / 10:30 am

Thank you Jen. I love seeing the tablescape everyday. Still have yet to sit down for a candlelit dinner though. The hubs has been sick. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

  3. December 7, 2023 / 8:37 am

Oh Cindy I just LOVE your tour! The neutral palette really lets your special decor pop with amazing texture and features. Pinning and sharing!

    • December 7, 2023 / 10:30 am

You are so sweet and know how to bring a smile to a girls face. Thank you Laura. Merry Christmas!

  4. December 7, 2023 / 10:05 am

Cindy your holiday tour is absolutely lovely and warm and inviting! You know me, I love keeping things simple so that every detail is noticed and appreciated. I’m loving the new wood bells too, and the cute way you have them displayed! Maybe in 2024 I’ll take on of those pottery classes so I make some fun pottery pieces like you have. 😊

    • December 7, 2023 / 10:34 am

I wish we could take pottery together. That would be so fun! I wonder what 2024 is going to look like. I’m going to try and concentrate on the little things since this year was a crazy busy whirlwind! Merry Christmas friend and thank you.

  5. December 7, 2023 / 10:33 am

Cindy, your pottery pieces are so wonderful. I love that nativity and your houses are darling. What a fun project! I’m so sorry you’re having to hobble around in a boot trying to decorate. I’m your friend on that. And yes, the Norman Rockwell notion that everyone helped decorate the Christmas tree was lost on my family. I did 99 percent of the decorating but they fussed when it wasn’t done. hmmmm. Love your beautiful “less is more” Christmas decor!

    • December 7, 2023 / 11:53 am

Glad I’m not the only one doing all the Christmas decorating! My kids are the same. When are you decorating the upstairs, when will the porch be done, when are we having our baking day? Seriously? :/ At least now, they begrudgingly help when I ask. But as soon as I’m out of this boot, I’m sure it will be another story. Thank you for the encouragement sweet friend. It made my day hearing you get it! Merry Christmas.

  6. December 7, 2023 / 11:54 am

So beautiful, my friend. It is indeed happy and cozy. Hugs and blessings to you. Merry Christmas.

    • December 7, 2023 / 11:55 am

Thank you so much Renae. Hope your holiday season is lovely. I’m trying to soak up as much as possible. Merry Christmas!

  7. December 7, 2023 / 12:30 pm

I thought you said you didn’t have time to decorate! You are further along than me and I’m not wearing a boot this year lol! Anyway, I love your style and this year your home looks just as gorgeous as it always does!

    • December 7, 2023 / 10:35 pm

Aww, thank you Jayne, you made my month! I’ll go through the rest of the holiday feeling so much better. Merry Christmas.

  8. December 7, 2023 / 1:43 pm

Such a beautiful home. I enjoyed your home tour.

    • December 7, 2023 / 10:36 pm

Thank you bunches Tammy. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Merry Christmas!

  9. December 7, 2023 / 8:57 pm

Totally cracking up about you hating your decorating because I feel that way about mine so often πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Everything looks lovely, from the little wreaths on the stockings to your homemade pottery nativity. Also, I have similar cube shelves and have never thought to leave some of the cubes open and am wondering why?! It looks so amazing and love how it directs your eyes to the decor! Brilliant! And off to clear off some of my cubes… Merry Christmas to you, Cindy!

    • December 7, 2023 / 10:39 pm

LOL Anne. Thank you! I appreciate you saying that. I don’t know why but when my shelves are full it overwhelms me so even though I’d love to take credit for the brilliant idea, it wasn’t for highlighting the decor. πŸ˜‰ Happy Christmas!

  10. December 8, 2023 / 8:50 am

So sorry about your bog boot, Cindy!! Regardless of that, your home looks so lovely for Christmas!! The mantel is amazing. I also tie bows to everything…it’s so cheap and simple but totally looks like Christmas!
    Merry Christmas to you!

    • December 8, 2023 / 11:36 am

I agree Rachel, bows make everything prettier. I had to take some down though. I definitely went overboard – LOL. Thanks so much for stopping by. Merry Christmas!

  11. December 8, 2023 / 9:20 am

Your house looks beautiful. I especially love the nativity! So beautiful. You did a great job!

    • December 8, 2023 / 11:39 am

Thank you so much Melinda! I wish I had thought to have you come over and help. We’d make a good team. Did you do anything different this year? I’ll have to pop in and see what you’ve done. Merry Christmas!

You have a beautiful home and is so wonderfully decorated. I pray your foot problems get better. Decorating for Christmas is like celebrating Jesus birthday and I know He appreciates all you did.

    • December 8, 2023 / 11:40 am

Those words of celebrating Jesus resonated hard and you are so right. He does appreciate it if I have the right heart attitude. Thank you for the kind words and gentle reminder. You are the best!

  13. December 8, 2023 / 12:23 pm

    Cindy
Such a beautiful tour. I loved all your cozy spaces.

    • December 8, 2023 / 12:37 pm

Thanks so much Rachel. Hope you are enjoying all this season has to offer. It’s fun to see how each state celebrates and feels differently. NC would be an exciting change. Merry Christmas!

  14. December 8, 2023 / 2:18 pm

Beautiful! I love all of the greenery and pinecones! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!

    • December 8, 2023 / 3:51 pm

You too Jenn and thank you. Merry Christmas!

    December 8, 2023 / 7:19 pm

I love everything but I’m especially digging all the pinecones! Such a pretty, natural addition. Your home is soooo lovely.

    • December 9, 2023 / 9:37 am

Aww, thank you Jill. You made my day. There are so many pinecones at the farmhouse that we bring them home by the trash bag full. My friends like it. Especially when we bring home the Spanish moss. Hope you have a marvelous season and Merry Christmas!

  16. December 9, 2023 / 6:11 am

I love, love, love all the neutrals! Such a peaceful and elegant look! You’ve inspired me! Merry Christmas

    • December 9, 2023 / 9:38 am

That’s what I love to hear Laura! So glad you saw something that inspired you. Thanks for the compliment and visit. Merry Christmas

  17. December 9, 2023 / 7:40 am

Cindy, kudos for your getting decor completed even in the boot (I hope that resolves completely). I love the black accents throughout with the neutral look. That shot from the side of the stairs looking toward the hutch in the entry is my favorite. I still remember the fall look, both great. That dollhouse with dollhouses inside is really a cool look. And I love your nativity you made.
Good luck with your mission for 2024 to clean out. I feel like I did a good job back in 2019, but here I am again. My sisters and I will be having a 50% off clearance in our booths in a couple weeks, and we really hope to make a dent in our “stuff”, which will allow more clearing from home. All those fosters I’ve been holding onto…..look out 2024. Your less is definitely more appealing to me.
    Merriest of Christmases to you!

    • December 9, 2023 / 9:43 am

Oh how I wish I lived close to you and could visit your booth! I loved having one but I totally understand the fosters. My booth was called One For You and One For Me! Perfect description. LOL. Hope you too get to do some clearing out. The older I get, the less I want to clean and dust. It might end up that one of these days I never want to deal with any of it. Then what will I do?! πŸ˜‰ Merry Christmas to you as well.

  18. December 10, 2023 / 10:29 pm

Oh, Cindy! I can’t pick a favorite, there are just too many pretty holiday decor details. I love your neutral color palette for Christmas. I’m so sorry to hear you’re in a boot right now. I’ve been there with casts on my feet during the holidays and it is so tough. I’m amazed by all you’ve gotten done. Your wooden bells are too cute and your Christmas table is full of rustic beauty. Well done my friend. Merry Christmas!

    • December 11, 2023 / 12:09 pm

You have made my week Kim. Not only do you understand how hard it is when you have something extra to deal with that you’re not used to but your enthusiasm made me smile ear to ear. Thank you so much. Happy Christmas to you as well!

  19. December 11, 2023 / 8:59 am

Cindy, you’re vintage and rustic style sucks me in every time! I love how you never fail to make a simple decor look so stunning!
    Happy holidays!

    • December 11, 2023 / 12:12 pm

Aww, you are so sweet Niky, thank you! We went on a tour of homes in a neighborhood not far from us and sadly, I had Christmas house envy. I hate that! Hope I remember that feeling next year and get excited about decorating. Fingers crossed. Happy Christmas!

  20. December 11, 2023 / 11:18 am

Beautiful! Your home looks so calm, cozy and festive…neutral colours and greens are the best holiday decor! Merry Christma

    • December 11, 2023 / 12:15 pm

Well, it works for me and the kids don’t seem to care but the mister doesn’t like that I left the trees bare. Hey, that rhymes. LOL. He’s also the one that thinks I should still feel like doing all the things even in a stupid boot (insert rolling eyes). Thanks for the visit and super nice compliment. Hope you have a great Christmas.

  21. December 11, 2023 / 3:02 pm

Goodness, I had no idea about your foot! Hope it heals quickly! I hurt my back the week of Thanksgiving (still dealing with it), and have NO IDEA how I’m going to be able to put away all the Christmas decor – it may still be out by summer! Regardless of your limitations, your home looks cozy, merry and happy for the holidays! I loved your simplified ideas, and one of these years I’m going to finally simplify my life, my decor (and my attic!). Merry Christmas Cindy, always so fun to tour with you xx

p.s. where did you find those amazing chairs at the head of your table? asking for a friend πŸ˜‰ And don’t tell me Round Top!

    • December 11, 2023 / 8:35 pm

LOL, nope, not Round Top. I got them at Kirkland’s of all places. Getting old stinks, doesn’t it. I hope your back gets better quickly! All I can say to that is BIOFREEZE! Thanks so much for the sweet comment. I truly appreciate it. Happiest of Christmases to you!

  22. December 12, 2023 / 7:29 pm

You can certainly enjoy this soothing look all winter long; beautifully neutral!

    • December 13, 2023 / 2:56 pm

Thank you. I’m very excited about not having to deal with a lot in January. Maybe I’ll be sick of it and ready to purge around February. πŸ˜‰

  23. December 14, 2023 / 12:53 pm

    Love! All so beautifully cozy!

    • December 14, 2023 / 2:51 pm

It’s the complete opposite of your fabulous colorful home, isn’t it?! Well, except for the cozy part. πŸ˜‰ Thank you.

  24. December 17, 2023 / 11:05 am

You are inspiring me to add more greenery! And I love your styling with that brass horse and wood tree! The colors of the whole vegnette are so lovely!

    • December 18, 2023 / 10:18 am

I love hearing that Kristin! Thank you for the wonderful compliment. I’m excited you found inspiration. Merry Christmas!
