Hello friends!  It’s time for the Pinterest Challenge, and we are sharing nighttime holiday table centerpieces this month.  If you’ve landed here from Our Southern Home, welcome!  I love Christy’s beautiful tablescape with mixed metallics.  Mine isn’t as elegant because that’s not me.  But, if you want to create a budget-friendly holiday table that is peaceful and pretty, join me below.

Kelley Nan

Our inspiration photo comes from Kelley Nan.  It’s a gorgeous tablescape taken in the evening for optimum elegance.  Can you imagine sitting there with friends and chatting the night away?  I’d really enjoy the chat but I think my brain would concentrate on the fact I’d feel underdressed.

No fault of Kelley, of course.  It’s mine.  I blame it on Covid and our casual dressed church.  It ruined me and my personal clothing style.  At least I draw the line at wearing pajama pants and house shoes out in public.  Oh, you’ve seen it.  If you’ve been almost anywhere, you’ve seen it.

You might think the lack of clothing style crept into my home decor style but it’s always been there.  Casual hominess is my vibe.  So, let me share how I’m going to take the Pinterest Challenge photo and turn it into something that works with my vibe.

The plan is to take cues from Kelley’s use of a table runner, candles, greenery, and ornaments for my table centerpiece.  To keep it budget friendly like the title says, I used free greenery from my local hardware store, Dollar Tree votives and things I already had.

The table runner is plaid on the other side so I flipped it over black side up.  I love how it works with the black mantel.  Then all the greenery I could find came out.  I admit my over use of greenery is a weakness but I can’t help it.  Especially when it’s free!

Kelley’s table has a lot of height so I chose clear glass bottles with more free stems to coordinate with the rest of the centerpiece.  And the Dollar Tree votives are scattered throughout so I have enough light.  Adding ornaments was easy.  I just plopped them down.  If yours roll you can add tape to the bottom to keep them in place.

That’s it for this Pinterest Challenge.  I find the neutral colors to be calming and I can hardly wait for an evening dinner party.  It’s going to be perfect!

Would you believe that I’ve never had a candlelight dinner here at home? Me either but hoping to have one this month. Thank you Renae.

In spite of pajamas and slippers in public, your tablescape is a winner, Cindy. Love the simple greenery and candles. The glass Christmas trees are so pretty. And every guest gets one! You are Christmas elf extraordinaire!! Thanks so much for hosting. Merry Christmas.

LOL, no pajamas in public. Thank you Carol. And yes, everyone gets a candle. I’m really looking forward to having guests over next week.

I didn’t think it was going to end up looking that good but candles seem to transform everything! Thank you Laura

I can confirm that look you’re talking about happens in Florida too 😆 There is so much to love about this relaxed casual vibe though. It all feels so warm and inviting. And I love that it offers an invitation to slow down and enjoy each other’s company. Plus, I love that it can be tweaked a tiny bit so you can enjoy it during the winter season too. Candlelight meals are always so special! Thanks so much for putting this hop together and for always supporting fellow creatives. You mean the world to me sweet friend, CoCo

Aww, thank you so much CoCo. You’ve made my day. I enjoy helping others and never thought of it that way until you mentioned it. Nor did I think of the table working for winter too! Thanks again! You should smell the dining room – it’s fabulous! Merry Christmas!

I’m glad there’s someone else out there that likes things simple! Seems like during Christmas time we are an unusual bunch. 😉 Thank you Rachel. Merry Christmas!

Cindy, I like the black runner, too. Very chic!! Adding real greenery is perfect. Would be fun to just sit and chat… 🎄Happy Holidays!!!

I am still in disbelief when I see people in the store with their jammies on! A beautiful view, Cindy!

I know, right?! I’m wondering who told them that was okay. At first I thought what’s next but I’m thinking I’ve already seen the really bad so I don’t think it could get much worse. Thank you Kim. Merry Christmas!

Cindy, your table is beautiful and I love the bottles with the fresh greens. The light from the cnadles sure makes them glow.

Because of this challenge, I’ve decided to use more candles. LIT CANDLES! I have them around but never light them or turn them on. So sad. Thanks bunches Wendy! Hope your Christmas is jolly.

So beautiful for the holidays! Yeah, I also draw the line on pajamas in public. I have worn my slippers out by accident. Ha. ha! I love the fresh greens. I had my kids give me a little Leyland cypress several years back just so I’d have cuttings for Christmas. It is finally at a size that I feel like I can trim from it. I love the memory of them plating it in the woods for my birthday. Merry Christmas!!

Aww, what a sweet gift and memory that will be around forever! You’ll get to share that with grandkids someday. I love it.
I giggled at your slipper comment. I almost left the house with slippers one day but thankfully caught myself as I was getting in the car. LOL.
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas Christy. Your home looks amazing.

I had to smile at all the candles. Back in ’73 when I was first married, I tried a candlelight dinner with my now late ex husband. Some of my early meals looked better by candlelight but I was attempting a romantic look. He grumpily flipped the overhead light on and growled, “I wanna see what I’m eating.” Never tried that again! Holidays are now at my daughter’s lovely home, and although she has candles going, the lights are on so we can see each other well!

    • November 30, 2023 / 6:11 pm

I literally laughed out loud at your story Kathy! My husband might not flip on the light but he’d ask me if I was hiding that I burned the meal or something. LOL. He’s been sick this week so I haven’t cooked a thing or been able to try out the table. Hoping for next week. Merry Christmas!

Cindy, this is really pretty. I recognize your use of things you already had, but really, they look so fresh. I love a table – or the house, in general – in evening glow. Where did you source those pretty glass trees? I’ve seem to be on a tree kick lately, and I blame it on estate sales. Jammies are my at home jam, but I wouldn’t wear them out either and oh yea, I’ve seen them out there. All.the.time. I will admit, though, that in the 70s when maxi coats were popular, I was known to wear a nightgown beneath and go to early mass without my parents knowing. . 😲

    • December 3, 2023 / 1:37 pm

RITA! I cannot believe you’d wear a nightgown beneath your coat. That is hilarious. The only thing I dared to do was wear my pajamas to drop the kids at school. One day I saw another mom who’d been in an accident. She was outside the car, standing in the cold and had no bra with pj’s. I never went without a bra again!
I got the trees in the dollar section at Target! They might still have some. Thanks so much for the giggle and sweet comment. Merry Christmas!
