If there’s one thing I enjoy and could do every day, it’s decorating my home with repurposed items. I don’t mean toilet paper rolls or leftover beads – that’s too crafty. I mean using a silver punch bowl to hold fruit in the kitchen or using a teacup and saucer at lunch to hold my chicken salad and crackers. I’ve heard people say I’m romanticising my life. Well, bring it on because I love it!

How to Repurpose Silver-Plated Serveware in a Bathroom
When you have a collection you are attached to, do you want to keep it in a cabinet somewhere, safe and sound? Or do you want to use it so everyone can enjoy it? I am the latter.
I have accumulated a lot of silver-plated pieces and used to keep them in a cabinet and pull them out only at Christmas. Honestly, I’m not sure why. All of the pieces were thrifted, and none of them were expensive.

Earlier this year, we replaced the vanity top in the guest bathroom with the most beautiful marble I have ever seen. We didn’t paint, get new cabinets, a mirror, hardware, nothing. I say this all the time, but it never ceases to amaze me how one small change can completely transform a room. And this time, the countertop was the magic.

As a result, it transformed my thinking on what the guest bathroom should be. I say “be” because it used to have nothing but a hodgepodge of leftover decor. That means boring.
It needed more personality, and it needed to match the vibe of the rest of our house. Therefore, I put some effort into it, and it’s now more than just a bathroom. It’s a classic, vintage-inspired room that we all enjoy.

Here are the 5 silver-plated pieces I’ve used to create a bathroom that now has a bit of sophistication.
- The creamer is now a vase. I have a small glass jar (actually a shot glass) inside to hold water. I didn’t need to add the glass, but it will make it easier to clean.
- A wine bottle coaster is holding the hand soap. What a handsome addition!
- The small footed tray is just for pretties. It consolidates the funny soaps and candle that otherwise would look ordinary just sitting on the counter by themselves. We can’t do ordinary anymore.
- Bending a cake server and hanging it on the wall makes a statement in a fun little wall collage.
- Using a casserole lid as artwork is a striking element when you walk into the room, don’t you think?

I encourage you to turn every small corner, every unattended spot, or unused room into something you delight in. We still have a couple of rooms that don’t resemble the rest of the house, but I’m working on it. Maybe by the year 2030 I’ll have them all done.

Such a beautiful powder room. Rich and elevated. I will copy the wine holder soap dispenser and the bent pie server as I already have those pieces. Was it hard to bend? I also have a couple of china casserole lids I want to hang but am looking for a third one first.

Thank you so much. The pie server was not hard to bend but it is sterling silver. We used a large metal pole to get it started. I’ve always wanted to hang some of my china lids on the wall but I have run out of room so they lean on the back wall in the cubby bookshelf. Just depends on the season and their coloring. I know whatever you do will be beautiful. Email a photo if you can!

I love all of your thrifted decorations in your bathroom and the marble is beautiful. I was wondering about the pressed leaves/flowers on the wall to the left of the sink. Are those frames new and if so, do you have a link as to where you got them. Thank you for giving us some great ideas with the silver plated items.

I got the frames exactly one year ago at a boutique in Salado, TX, called MAKS Mercantile, so unfortunately, I don’t have a link. I checked their website, and it’s “under construction” as they update their inventory. However, I have seen them on Amazon and even at Walmart. Google: Pressed flower Frames or Double Folding Picture Frame. I’d send a link, but for some reason it keeps taking you to my personal page. Anyway, hopefully that helps.
p.s. I love the frames and change out the leaves or flowers each season. This year it may take a while. I have a feeling I’ll be waiting quite some time for fall leaves to appear.
