You’ll love using fresh greens in these 10 fun spots for Christmas!

Spread the love

Hello my fabulous friends!  It may be early for some but in my house as soon as Nov. 1st rolls around, the Christmas bins come out.  My first thoughts are always – I need to call Lowe’s and ask when they are getting their trees.  I use faux trees but enjoy using real branches in cheerful places everywhere else.  That made me think, you’ll love using fresh greens in these 10 fun spots for Christmas too!

The reason I wonder about the local hardware store getting trees is because I don’t buy fresh greenery except for garland.  I skip on in to the store every once in a while until I’ve gathered enough branches out of their dumpster.  At our store, they keep it right next to where they cut off the bottom branches when a tree is purchased.  And they always say yes when you ask for the clippings.

Frankly, I’d love to wait until Thanksgiving was over before decorating for Christmas.  I love Thanksgiving and the colors that go along with it.  But if I want to encourage and inspire you, I need to start early.  At least the dining room doesn’t get changed over until the day after Thanksgiving.  One year I went against my better judgement and did the entire house in Christmas before Thanksgiving and it was yucky to me.  It felt like we had 2 Christmas dinners.  I can’t like it.

white wood ring wreath on front door with fresh greens and living room in backgroundFun Spot #1 – Use fresh greenery on the door

The front door is always an obvious choice but… Try repurposing something that resembles a wreath instead.  This was a ring on an old sewing basket I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of.  It’s an immediate conversation starter which helps if you have someone new coming over.

Santa with white coat, peace sign and trees with lampFun spot #2 – Use them on lamps

Tuck a piece on a lamp.  Easily adding string to tie around it or in a set of beads gives you another place to add fresh greenery.  It’s an added pop of color.  Plus, when you’re sitting next to it, my goodness, the aroma is fabulous!

Do you decorate your bedroom for Christmas?  I cannot recommend it enough.  There were some (by that I mean at least 20) years I didn’t fool with it.  But ever since I started blogging, I look forward to it and can hardly wait to get it finished!  Y’all, it’s where I spend my evenings.  Reading or doing my unofficial Hallmark Movie word-search puzzle book.  If you don’t have a canopy bed, drape it over the headboard.  If you have a large mirror or picture over the bed, drape it over that. It’s so nice!

Christmas Farmhouse front porch with cow hide, red pillows and berry treesFun Spot #4 and 5 – Inside a stocking or toolbox.

This is the Christmas porch at the farmhouse several years ago.  When we’re there, it’s so nice not having to dig inside a dumpster.  I hop on the 4 wheeler and clip stems from the trees in the pastures.  The stems get stuffed in anything and everything.  Old toolboxes, stockings, and even in metal stands to make a Christmas tree by the door.  So cute!

Really, all that sawing and clipping is like being in my very own Hallmark movie.  The best part is that I’m already married to my high school sweetheart and never worry about going back home and finding him again after 15 years.  LOL!

When the fresh greenery is free, I tend to want to stuff it everywhere.  Even on the wall art.  When you sit down and look around, the entire room closes in and feels so cozy.  Like a giant hug from Mother Nature.

Speaking of coziness.  I think my favorite of all the fun or unique spaces are on chandeliers or hanging light fixtures.  It’s a holiday staple for me.  Especially when you desire a more intimate feeling.

I hope you’ll love using fresh greens in these 10 fun spots for Christmas or come up with even more fantastic places!  One of our friends is allergic to cedar.  For her and anyone else, faux works well too and looks just as nice.  Sometimes it’s even better because you don’t have to go around spritzing it all the time.  That’s what I do to keep it looking nice.  Spritz the heck out of it.

Happy decorating my friends!

I start looking for inspiration for Christmas about this time of year and greens are a wonderful start. I have a hard time putting up Christmas before Thanksgiving but, like you, am a Blogger so some of that is necessary. However, I’m going to enjoy your post for a few more weeks before I start decorating myself. Great ideas.

The gate needs to be painted. It came red but I go back and forth on a different color. Now’s my opportunity to create something different and fun! What would you do? Thanks so much Debra!
