Refresh an old wreath into an easy spring showstopper!

Spread the love

I have a feeling most of us love spring.  Temps are warming up, the sun is out a little more often, the days are getting longer and the beautiful spring colors are popping out all over the place.  What’s not to love?  Okay, maybe some of us have allergies but I’ll take sneezing and sniffles over dead, bare, and dreary any day.

If you’ve hopped over from Bluesky at Home, howdy!  Wasn’t Carol’s wreath so pretty and goodness me, she knows how to make a bow!

This month for the Pinterest Challenge, we were inspired by a large tulip wreath made by Kristi at Chatfield Court.  Her wreath is beautiful and full of vibrant pink tulips!  And I think her front door is just about the same color as ours!

Refresh an Old Wreath Into an Easy Spring Showstopper!

I wish I could say my first thought was wowza, that’s gorgeous but that came second.  My first thought was yikes, how much did that cost?  I wish my brain didn’t always go straight to cost.  The mister is unduly pragmatic and I think it’s rubbing off on me.  Nooooo!

wood bead wreath, scissors, scrap fabricSupplies for making this spring wreath. Sorry, forgot the tulips!

That being said, I love the wreath so I need to find a way to recreate it without using a ton of money on faux tulips.

One way to keep the cost down is to use a wreath I already have.  This one with the wood beads has been hanging in the closet for about 3 years.  I had already removed the old stuff so sorry, there’s no pic of that.  But it was dried out, faded and ugly anyway.

After cutting the fabric scraps into 2″ x 12″ strips, all I had to do was tie them on the wood beads.  I used 4 different coordinating fabrics and purchased 1/4 yard of each costing a total of $4.97.  If you buy your tulips at the dollar store, you’d still only get 3 of them these days.  I’ve used these tulips for years.

Once the fabric strips are finished, I wrapped 7 of my faux tulips around the wreath.  There wasn’t any measuring, just a little eyeballing until it looked okay.

There’s a vine of pink flowers in the supply photo that I didn’t use.  In the end it looked extremely busy and all the pattern in the fabric strips are enough for me.

Now this is a spring greeting!

I realize it isn’t as full with tulips as the inspiration photo but luckily for me, that’s what the Pinterest Challenge is all about – putting my own spin on an inspiration photo.

Cutting and tying the strips took about 30 minutes so I feel to refresh an old wreath into an easy spring showstopper is the way to go!  Especially when the total cost was less than $5.00!  I had enough fabric left over to cover about half the wreath so if you wanted to cover it entirely, get a half yard of each color.

If you’d like to see how I used the same tulips in other ways, click here for that fun Easter Vignette.

I’ve also used them in this Easter Parade kitchen post.  And just in case you need one more reason to get yourself some faux tulips, here’s a spring mantel post.  Same faux tulips in all 3 posts!

If you’re going in order, next up is CoCo with The Crowned Goat.  I know you will enjoy her take on the inspiration photo as well.  Don’t forget to see what my other friends did below.  Happy Spring!

What a fun way to dress up your door for Spring, Cindy! I love all the different shades of pink you incoporated and how you can use this same idea in multiple seasons too. We don’t have a lot of extra storage so we’re always looking for fresh ways to refresh and reuse as many things as we can. Thanks so much for being our fearless leader and for putting such a fun hop and group together. Big hugs, CoCo

I think we all need more storage. Plus it encourages us to stop buying things we don’t need and I certainly don’t need another wreath! LOL. Thanks bunches CoCo.
