Spread the love

Good morning friends!  Today is another Pinterest Challenge Day which means you’ll find lots of extra inspo at the bottom of my post.  We have Patriotic Trays/Vignettes this month.  With July 4th just around the corner, I thought it perfect timing for those who only want do a little or want to go all out with patriotic decor.  Let’s get this party started with my Easy Patriotic Decor and Coffee Table Vignette.

Our inspiration photo came from the Liz Marie Blog.  If you don’t know who she is, she’s one my fave bloggers in all of blog land.  Liz was the first blog I ever subscribed too.  I was able to spend some time with her and her husband Jose a couple of years ago and I find them to be the sweetest, most genuine couple I’ve ever met in the blogging world.

This is our inspiration photo.  What I love about the room is the understated yet very patriotic decor.  So what I’d like to incorporate into my decor is as follows:

Blue and white pillows on our sofa

A basket type tray

Vintage blue jars

Greenery and 3 Flags

Creating an Easy Patriotic Backdrop

The first thing I wanted to do was incorporate a backdrop like Liz did with her giant flag hanging on the wall behind her sofa.  Even though I’d love a giant flag, I don’t have one so instead I’m using a galvanized watering can to hold white paper flowers and two large flags.  I’m happy with the size and how it doesn’t overwhelm the table or obscure the much needed windows in our living room.  Super easy!

Creating an Easy Patriotic Coffee Table Vignette

To create a coffee table vignette, start off with a tray or basket.  Liz used a round rattan basket but since my table/iron bench is rectangle, I find rectangle or square works best for me.  What I noticed too was the odd number of items Liz had in her tray.  She has a clear bottle holding flags, 3 more blue jars for color, a frame/photo, a  bucket of greenery and a stack of coasters.  Using odd numbers is easier to look at for some reason.

I have one real plant in the entire house so I like using it front and center as much as possible.  I suppose it’s my hey-look-what-I-can-do moment.  Which might soon be a well-I-finally-killed-it moment soon since the leaves are turning yellow.  My rattan tray is smaller in size so I can fit about five decorative items in it.  I try and keep everything on the coffee table lower than eye level so we can see the TV.  It wouldn’t be practical to use tall decor items if I had to move them each time I sat to watch the Hallmark channel.

You Can Do It!

When placing your odd amount of items, vary the heights to keep your eye moving around.  You can use books, plates or a decorative box to help.

Finally, if you’re trying to duplicate a look you like from Pinterest, don’t feel it has to be exactly the same.  If you don’t have blue bottles, try a vase, patriotic wood blocks, a cookie jar or can, etc.  Likewise, if you prefer a sign over a small framed photo or have a fun piece from your childhood, it would work too.  That’s the best thing about this Pinterest Challenge; we all use the same inspiration photo and make it work for us!  It’s time to check out what my talented friends have done.  Next up is Christy at Our Southern Home.  You will love her patio!

Thank you Laura (in CO). πŸ˜‰ I love collecting the blue glass since it works with my kitchen color. Enjoy your Independence Day as well!

Grwat vignette Cindy, love the white paper flowers. I don’t have luck with house plants at all so I don’t even attempt it anymore.

Yep, that’s me too. I purchased a Fiddle Leaf Fig tree about 2 years ago and it died within 4 months. That was the last (expensive) straw. πŸ™‚

This is adorable. I love your sweet pillows and the live plant! πŸ™‚ I love that watering can. So cute.

    • June 23, 2020 / 11:35 am

Adorable?! I’ll take it, thanks! The pillows came from Hobby Lobby a few years ago. I’m hoping the plant stays alive long enough to be replanted into a larger pot. I was told its roots have taken over but finding a pot I like is hard. No one is getting shipments around here. :/

Ok friend. I didn’t even realize the 4th of July was literally around the corner!
I’m going to dig in the attic and today and see what I have. The 4th usually comes and goes before I have a chance to dig it out. But, my friend, you and your friends have inspired my lazy bones to give it a try!!

    • June 23, 2020 / 11:38 am

LOL Jeanette. Get those lazy bones up in that super hot attic and dig out your red, white and blue! I love keeping it up through Labor Day. We’ll see. You know things are always changing around here. I am excited to hear you’ve been inspired though – Makes my day!

You created a beautiful decor to enjoy now through July 4th. If you entertain outdoors, you could move both your arrangement in the galvanized pitcher and your tray outdoors to enjoy there. I love these challenges and so much enjoy seeing what each person creates.

    • June 23, 2020 / 11:42 am

I totally agree Paula. I will use it outside if we actually have anyone over. Fingers crossed we don’t melt. Hope you enjoy your Independence Day. Should be super nice on the lake!

    • June 23, 2020 / 11:44 am

Yay Marlene – I’m so glad you love the Pinterest Challenges! I get a lot out of them and always hoping our readers do too. Now get to decoratin’! πŸ™‚

Love the tin watering can you’ve used and the paper flowers with the flags, Cindy! It is fun trying to figure out how to make a look work for ourselves. I’m not so good with indoor plants, either… Much better with those outdoors! Thank you for hosting and enjoy your sweet patriotic table vignette. <3

Yes you are wonderful at the outdoor plants! I think your back yard is coming along nicely. I found that watering can in a store in Grapevine. I can’t remember the name (because it was mainly for clothes and camping I think?) but it is at the end of main street and is a converted old gas station. Worth the visit. Thanks so much Barbara!

  10. June 23, 2020 / 12:56 pm

You gave me lots of ideas I didn’t think of Cindy. Love the “Faith, Family, Freedom” sign which looks so cute on the tray! Looks like you are ready for the 4th! When should I come over? Hehe!

    • June 23, 2020 / 1:01 pm

Thank you and please feel free to make that journey anytime Michelle! Just give me a heads up so I can dust. Your home is always so perfect in photos that I’d be nervous. πŸ˜‰ I snatched that little sign from Hobby Lobby. I think it was like $2? I’m cheap and easy. Ha

  11. June 23, 2020 / 3:41 pm

    Cindy,
This is stunning! Too funny about the houseplants. I struggle to keep them alive. I love the blue pillows on your couch!

    • June 23, 2020 / 4:45 pm

Thanks bunches Christy. The pillow covers came from Hobby Lobby. Hope you have a wonderful celebration with your family!

  12. June 23, 2020 / 8:15 pm

Love the simplicity of your vignette and the background flags tie everything together. Hoping to catch next month’s challege!

    • June 23, 2020 / 9:15 pm

Thank you Pamela! I’ve been known to go a little crazy with the small packages of flags so I’m glad to hear I didn’t and that it ties everything together. πŸ˜‰

  13. June 24, 2020 / 12:08 am

What I love about the challenges is using what I have to create a similar look. You can of flowers and flags is a fun solution to no big flag.

    • June 24, 2020 / 12:10 am

Me too Carol! I try to always use what we already have but when I saw those paper flowers, I was hooked! I know I’ll be using them all year round! Thanks for the sweet words too. I really appreciate them! ❀️

  14. June 24, 2020 / 12:08 am

I love how you incorporated the flags behind the sofa… and the white flowers! What a great touch! Thanks for hosting, my friend! Here’s to a nice relaxing day tomorrow! πŸ˜‰

    • June 24, 2020 / 11:59 am

Thank you Julie. I smile when I walk through the living room. The white paper flowers and flags in front of the window are the first thing I see and I like the whimsy of it. Makes me think of crazy hair days. πŸ˜‰

  15. June 24, 2020 / 3:34 pm

Looks great Cindy! Thank you so much for hosting this challenge! So much great inspiration!

    • June 24, 2020 / 4:21 pm

Thank you! And it’s my pleasure Kristin. I love all the inspiration in one place!

  16. June 24, 2020 / 8:38 pm

It looks beautiful! I love the blue jar with a candle. I have one like it that I almost used. Now after seeing yours I am going to bring out the jar and use it as a votive holder for summer.

Thanks so much for hosting this fun challenge. Happy Foruth of July!

    • June 24, 2020 / 9:41 pm

Thanks so much! I love that little blue jar and use it all the time for candles. It’s the perfect size. Sadly my favorite candle store closed for good a couple of months ago. I suppose they couldn’t hold out during the pandemic. πŸ™ They were super strong and smelled fantastic! Because of that though, I’m going to start making my own. Maybe I’ll sell them. We’ll see. Hope you enjoy your Independence Day Amber!

  17. June 24, 2020 / 10:32 pm

Cindy, I absolutely love your Pinterest Challenges! so many great ideas and great inspiration from some very talented gals! I really do love a great patriotic display in decor. Yay for white slipcovered sofas, they are so easy to change up!

    • June 24, 2020 / 10:38 pm

Thank you so much Debra! That puts a big ol’ smile on my face hearing you love the challenges. And yes, I adore our white sofa but the Mister, not so much. He refuses to sit on it. He knows I can wash the slipcover but it’s still a big fat nope. LOL. That’s okay. More room for me!

  18. June 24, 2020 / 10:36 pm

I love that it all comes together in one pretty set-up.

    • June 24, 2020 / 10:39 pm
