Creating a Summer Party Porch

Spread the love

Hello Friends!  It’s Pinterest Challenge Day which means several of my friends and I have great inspiration for you.  If you are coming over from Cloches and Lavender, yay and thanks!  I’m glad you’re here.  We always start our challenges with one inspiration photo.  This month’s photo comes from Bria Hammel Interiors and her Front Porch Reveal.  Seeing her porch had me Creating a Summer Party Porch for us.

PC graphic

Bria’s porch is certainly beautiful as well as peaceful.  I could swing all day in that hanging chair reading magazines.  For this Pinterest Challenge, I wanted to incorporate the pink flowers we already had sitting on the porch from the Farmhouse Container Gardening post.

So instead of keeping it serene like Bria did, I’m incorporating other elements instead.  I see pillows, a rug, white curtains, plenty of plants and/or flowers and a place to serve refreshments.

Creating a Summer Party Porch

chair cushion

In order to have a successful party, you need 3 things; pretty surroundings (ambiance), a place to sit-n-chat (the porch), food and beverages.  When I plan a party, I need a jumping off point.  Something that catches my eye to keep me focused so things don’t look all kinds of crazy.  I  found chair cushions in the At Home Store and instantly liked the bright colors which will work with our existing pink flowers.

2 rockers with cushions

After finding the focus piece, I added the white curtains.  Guess what?!  Just like last year, I used plastic rectangle table covers for curtains!  They are fantastic because they cost $1 each, are the perfect length and at the end of the season, I don’t feel guilty about throwing them away!  Plus, I don’t have to fool with washing them.  Winner winner, chicken dinner!

Next came the rug.  We’ve used this rug (another At Home find) for a couple of years now and it’s still in great shape.  Even though I love this vintage baby tub, it’s not really that useful.  However, it’s cute and perfect for flowers.

It’s starting to look like a party!

vintage pink hand painted basket with flowers

On an antiquing trip, I found two adorable baskets.  Someone went to a lot of trouble to paint these babies.  The smaller one is perfect for holding the much needed bug spray.  Oh!  By the way, do y’all use Hot Shot Flying Insect Killer?  Around here with livestock roaming around, we get a lot of flies and large mosquitoes.  Spraying that around the porch and back door has really cut down on the amount of insects.  It’s supposed to last about 4 weeks.  So far it’s been over a week and I love it!  Wouldn’t want to sit on the porch without using it.

Farmhouse front porch

Next we need a place to put the snacks and pink lemonade so I pulled out the old footlocker.  Anyone else coordinate the party food and drinks or is it just me?!  LOL!  Anyway, the large basket is great for keeping the plastic plates, napkins and cups together.

Little Hint and a Side Note

Hint: Putting your self-serve drink container on a plate stand makes it easier to put the cup underneath the spigot.  Disappointing Side note: I got this super cute mason jar looking container from Walmart for $5.00.  I don’t recommend it.  It leaks!  Before I use it again, I plan to add specific glue around the knob to hopefully stop the leaking.  I would return it but last week I wanted to return something at Walmart and they said due to Covid-19, they were not returning everything (a.k.a. my item).  Ugh.  At least it got me to wipe out the refrigerator well.

Cone shaped bucket with flowers

Let’s see.  Did I get what I needed for creating a summer party porch?  I think so!  I used pretty flowers all around the porch, hanging boxwood balls on the light fixture and white curtains for the ambiance.  We have rocking chairs with summer happy cushions for seating and then the fruit and lemonade to make it a party instead of just a place to plop your bottom.  Now y’all are all invited to my party porch!

Next up is Yvonne with StoneGable Blog.  She has a a beautiful porch for you as well!  Don’t forget to visit ALL of the participants.  I know you’ll find exciting ideas!

Happy Decorating Friends!

Love your summer porch, Cindy!!! Bummer that the drink container is leaking… Ugh! I know about Walmart’s new policy, too. Don’t buy anything unless you really like/want it. (They should return this since it is defective, you’d think…) Anyway, love your porch and it’d be nice to come out and sit, drink some pink lemonade and watch your sweet horses and donkey grazing in the fields beyond…

Happy almost summer and thanks for hosting,
    Barb <3

p.s. The boxwood balls hanging from the ceiling light are cool!!! Totally unique idea!!

      • May 26, 2020 / 7:21 am

Found those last year in the At Home store. I’m sure they still carry them. The balls are just tied up there with twine. Glad you like them.

    • May 26, 2020 / 7:19 am

Thanks so much Barbara! I’m hoping to fix the leaking issue with the jar. I really like the look of it. Come visit anytime and you can pet or ride Sherlock if you’d like. He’s very sweet to the two legger’s, especially when they have treats. 🙂

Thanks Cindy. It’s nice being surrounded by pink! 🙂

Love your porch and your party looks so inviting. That baby tub filled with flowers is a winner for sure, love it. Thanks so much for hosting such a fun tour.

    • May 26, 2020 / 10:53 am

Thank you Ms. Marty. It’s nice to be able to actually use the baby tub for a change. Most of the time it’s standing in a corner inside the house. Have a great week.

  3. May 26, 2020 / 7:53 am

Your porch looks gorgeous and is so ready for summer entertaining. I’ve never seen a vintage baby tub like yours and using it as a planter is a great idea. Another great idea is using plastic tablecloths for curtains. I love the look of curtains on a porch and this is an easy and budget friendly idea. I have a similar drink dispenser from Sam’s and mine also leaks a bit. Now that I’ve seen yours, I need to get mine out to enjoy. (I usually put a plate under the spout part to catch the leaks.) I so much enjoyed seeing your pretty porch!

    • May 26, 2020 / 10:59 am

I wish people a.k.a. businesses could go that extra step and make them leak proof. They’d sell more! I love the plastic table cloth idea too. I’d never want to afford adding red and blue ones to each side for July 4th but now it’s super inexpensive and so festive! Using the round ones for bunting across the rails is perfect too. 😉 Glad you liked the porch Paula, thanks!

  4. May 26, 2020 / 8:17 am

Hi Cindy, Wait what? Your curtain is a plastic tablecloth? I love your porch! laura

    • May 26, 2020 / 11:02 am

Heck yeah it’s a plastic tablecloth! Bugs don’t stick to them and dirt slides right off. And I never worry about them when it rains either. No one knows until they touch them. Or until they get slapped in the face with one on a super windy day. :0

Glad you enjoy them Janet and it makes my day to see your comment and hear you are happy with them – Thank you! Hope you have a great week. 🙂

  6. May 26, 2020 / 8:40 am

Oh, I would so enjoy sitting a spell on that porch. That painted house basket gives me all the heart eyes!!!

I bought that blasted mason jar myself.

Perhaps we should leave reviews on the site so no other souls will need to scrub their refrigerators and floors. LOL

    • May 26, 2020 / 11:07 am

I was going to leave a review Laura. Just haven’t gotten around to it yet. But I will be shouting it from the keys – DON’T BUY IT! Next time you are in the Navasteamy area, come for a visit and we’ll do some heavy partying on the porch!

  7. May 26, 2020 / 8:44 am

Cindy your front entryway is just so warm and welcoming. Love the pink. Everything looks so pretty. I love your summer party porch. Pretty in Pink!

    • May 26, 2020 / 11:08 am

Thanks bunches Terrie. Pink is my favorite color so I love being surrounded with it!

  8. May 26, 2020 / 9:18 am

It is darling. I love the apricot color that you’ve used. So, so pretty. I want to go antiquing! I love the baby bath. Adorable.

    • May 26, 2020 / 11:11 am

Thanks Katie. The tub was found in Round Top, TX during the antique fair. If they ever get to open it back up, we should meet and go together. That would be so fun!

  9. May 26, 2020 / 9:30 am

Cindy, Your porch is cottage perfection. I just adore the vintage look. Love the fabric on the chair pads. Such a fun tour with so much inspiration!

    • May 26, 2020 / 11:19 am

I thought of you Christy when I was out there cleaning and wanting to paint everything again. I planned to wash the house and scrub it all but the weather wasn’t cooperating that week. I’ll be doing it next time we are there. It gets dirty so fast but the cold well water will be nice with the 100 degree, 80% humidity days. LOL!

  10. May 26, 2020 / 10:44 am

    Your porch looks perfect!

I love that baby tub and would use it just the way you do,

This was a great challenge for me because I got the idea to add a table and we both love it.

    • May 26, 2020 / 11:23 am

Thanks so much Carol. I’m so excited to hear that you got an idea and are enjoying it! I’ve used a table out there once or twice and love it too.

    May 26, 2020 / 11:03 am

I am ready to party after all the rain and this looks like a lovely and happy place to be. Thanks Cindy.

    • May 26, 2020 / 11:28 am

I hear you Marlene! We are expecting 10 straight days of thunder storms in Navasota. The storms here don’t allow us to sit out on the porch and enjoy it. They are super windy, loud and violent. I’m hoping things survive out there. But the party will be back on when the sunshine is out again!

I forgot i love that house basket it is the cutest!!

    • May 26, 2020 / 11:30 am

Thanks, I think so too! With all the hard work and those bright colors, I couldn’t leave them sitting there. 🙂

  13. May 26, 2020 / 11:11 am

What a beautiful, relaxing place to sit and enjoy sweet conversation and pink lemonade! I love the cushions you found; they are the perfect launching point for the whole scene. And yes…matching all. the. things. is essential! (my walmart vessels leaked all over for our grad party, too; just needed to tighten a bit, if I remember) Thanks for rounding us all up today! Great group:)

    • May 26, 2020 / 11:35 am

You are the third person to tell me their Walmart vessel leaked all over the place. What the cuss Walmart – pick better stuff! Glad to know too I’m not the only one that matches all. the. things! LOL. One of these days we’ll meet in person and go shopping together and chat about all the goodies and then we’ll have a craft day! One of these days years Lora, one of these years.

  14. May 26, 2020 / 11:59 am

So pretty Cindy! I love all the pretty ways you pot your flowers!! Looks like you are ready for me to come right over! The cushions on the rockers sure are cute!

    • May 26, 2020 / 12:26 pm

Thank you Kristin. It would be quite the distance for you but I’ll make sure and greet you at the gate when you get here!

  15. May 26, 2020 / 12:27 pm

The baby tub just might go missing but not sure how to get it in my SUV full of dirt and flowers. LOL! Love that you’re coordinating the cushions with your pretty flowers and how about those comfy rocking chairs. Beautifully styled porch Cindy. Thanks for the opportunity to virtually get together!

    • May 26, 2020 / 12:52 pm

Thank you Michelle. When I first saw that baby tub a few years ago, I ran over as fast as I could while trying not to draw attention to my intentions and was so surprised that it didn’t have a sold sticker on it. I snatched it up so fast! I was totally prepared to drag it around with me the entire day of antiquing! I still haven’t come across another like it so I’m super excited it’s all mine. Virtual hug! 😉

  16. May 26, 2020 / 12:46 pm

Of course, you always have GREAT suggestions! I’m gonna tell my sister about the flying insect spray! I was at her place yesterday and it was BAD! Love the curtain tip, too!

    • May 26, 2020 / 12:57 pm

Girl, that stuff really works. It doesn’t get rid of every single one but I highly recommend it. Sitting out there before was ridiculous! Imagine me flinging my arms with such vigor that I knock over the table that held my drink. Now I’m angry and sticky so even more of a magnet for the dang bugs. Yep, not pretty.

  17. May 26, 2020 / 12:54 pm

    Cindy,
Love this spring porch. I love all your vintage pieces.
    Rachel

    • May 26, 2020 / 1:00 pm

Hey there Rachel! I’m a sucker for galvanized anything. 😉 Thanks for the visit and comment today! Hope you have a great week!

  18. May 26, 2020 / 5:36 pm

Your porch is magazine perfect! I love the colors you chose and all the vintage touches. The baby tub as a flower container is great!

I am so bummed out that I forgot about this challenge and the vintage one! All the porches are so pretty.

    Happy Summer!

    • May 26, 2020 / 5:54 pm

I’m bummed too Amber. I always love what you do with your porch and vintage goodies. And I’ll take “magazine perfect”! That’s super sweet of you to say! Thank you!!!

  19. May 26, 2020 / 6:11 pm

Love this summer porch! My fave is the trio of varied shaped containers with the pink flowers. I could sit and drink lemonade (with maybe a little vodka?) here all day!

    • May 26, 2020 / 7:56 pm

LOL Pamela – Thank you. Pink is my favorite color so surrounding myself in it while I do nothing but rock the day away is my idea of good decorating. Ha!

  20. May 26, 2020 / 7:41 pm

I want to go to your porch party, Cindy! I love all the pink accents and the way you coordinated your food/beverage with the party theme…way to go, girl! Okay, let me tell you I think every beverage container like that leaks. I’ve learned the hard way, so you’re not alone.

Also, I’m going to use your curtain idea! Brilliant! I’ve been wanting to try curtains on our patio, but the thought of washing them turns me off. And yes, I need that bug spray here in hot, humid Houston! Thanks for coordinating another great hop!

    • May 26, 2020 / 8:03 pm

Thanks Crissy! You are always invited to my parties! Let me know what you think if you try the plastic tablecloths as curtains. I think you’ll love them! No one knows they are plastic until one slaps them in the face after a big gust of wind. I may or may not have witnessed that. Not telling. And believe me, that bug killer is golden! We are only a little over an hour from you so I think we have the same bus sized bugs. I’m thinking of investing in the gallon size.

  21. May 27, 2020 / 7:15 am

I always love your porches! So pretty and you feel like it’s the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by!

    • May 27, 2020 / 9:33 pm

Thank you Tammy. Yep, that’s pretty much what I do while I’m there. LOL!

I didn’t know Round Top was such a big hoopla! I was in Houston last year visiting and we met some girlfriends in Round Top. It was dead! I need to backtrack and go when the festival is in full swing. Your porch screams good old summertime! Bugs and all! We have gnats down here and they are so annoying. We use something called Swamp Gnat and it’s great for all sorts of pesky bugs!

    • May 27, 2020 / 9:39 pm

Swamp Gnat sounds like a product you use when you have a gazillion gnats! Hope that’s not the case. We call Houston the armpit of Texas because of the huge bugs, humidity and overall stink. LOL! But now Round Top is the place to go in the fall and spring. Now that’s a place worth the humid air! Did you go to Royer’s while you were there? When the hubby and I went the line was long and it was the first place we’d ever sat at a 4 person table with strangers. A little awkward at first but we had a nice conversation. Oh and the pie was yummy!

Your porch looks so comfortable and welcoming, it makes me wish I had a porch!!!

    • May 27, 2020 / 9:42 pm

I’ve often thought builders should go back to putting porches on every house. I think neighbors would be a little more friendly and kind. Glad you like the porch. I enjoy being surrounded by pink! 🙂

Cindy, reading this post made me so happy! The colors are fabulous and so well coordinated with everything; even the rust looks good. I love seeing the baby bathtub on your porch, and all the flowers are so festive. I’m certainly ready to come back and sit a spell on that porch. Invite me to the party, please.

    • May 28, 2020 / 11:39 am

Thank you. It’s not quite the happiest place on earth but it’s close!

  25. May 29, 2020 / 7:13 pm

Totally obsessed with this party porch, Cindy! It’s gorgeous! I love the flowers you chose and all the vintage and antique pieces you’ve used too. They’re all really beautiful! You totally nailed this challenge. I better get pinning – this is so awesome! Hugs, CoCo

    • May 29, 2020 / 9:18 pm

Awe, thank you CoCo. That makes my day because YOU are the porch master and I always adore everything you do to it! Thanks for the Pins!
