A Quick Redesign of the Living Room!

Hello Friends!  What did you do this weekend?  I did something I felt was long over due and super exciting!  We were able to get down to the country house in Navasota and do some much needed work.  By work I mean, a quick redesign of the living room! Woo hoo!

The Mister worked on what I think he thinks is most important – the internet connection.  I couldn’t care less about that.  Maybe because we typically have it but I know if it were ever out for any length of time, I’d find lots of other things to do.  Readin’ and rockin’ come to mind.  But we all have our own quirks, don’t we?  This trip I had to remove all the Christmas stuff which took an entire day but I knew all that messy work would be joyful come the next.

What is a redesign?  It’s decorating a room by using the same items found shopping the house instead of spending more money!  Actually, it’s my most favoritest thing to do!  The only thing holding me back from doing it 5 times a week is my broken-down achy bones and a lack of volunteers or clients.  If it came down to choosing a redesign or staying home with my decrepit self, I’d say Advil to the rescue and pack my furniture sliders!

Do y’all ever get tired of seeing the chair in the same place or think that wall decor would look better in another room?  That sort of thing goes through my mind on a daily basis.  Not so much at a friends house but my own for sure.  No it’s not because I’m bored or have an emotional problem.  God just wired me to love all things decorating!  πŸ˜‰

In the Navasota house, the living room is very awkward to begin with; door ways on 3 walls and only 3 plugs in the whole room.  I find the hardest part of doing a family room is the TV watching.  Usually you get one wall to put it on and that’s it.  I’m so grateful that our TV can be moved to any wall I want.  We only need a nearby plug!

It’s time to dance!

When I found that out, it was happy dance time.  LOL.  Picture more of a Napoleon Dynamite solo instead of a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers scene.   If you don’t know the last two people – shame on your momma.

I only moved around a couple of pieces of the wall decor because I’ll be adding a larger piece soon which will require more moving.  That includes the hanging light fixture.  I used to have a desk there so the light was nice but it got moved a while back.  The little stool next to the chair was made by the Misters grandfather.  It works perfectly in a small space as a side table.  Finally, the small touches of pink are perfect for Valentine’s Day and will take us all the way into spring.

5 Easy Steps For A Quick Redesign

Step 1: Remove artwork and accessories keeping like things together.  (white pieces, candles, frames, etc.)

Step 2: Start moving the furniture pieces around until you like the look.  Sometimes it takes a few tries.  (Hint: If you don’t have furniture sliders use wash cloths to move it around.  If you have carpet, use plastic lids under the feet).

Step 3: Next add the side tables and coffee table back in.  Mix those up too or use something different.  I used a stool as a side table in this area because it’s more crowded now.

Step 4: Start placing the lamps and artwork

Step 5: Add the accessories and you’re finished!

You don’t need to use the same exact furniture.  Switch out chairs and tables if you can.  Small changes make a big difference.  Changing out wall art does the same thing.  The room will seem more new and exciting.  Above all, stay focused on one room at a time.  It can easily snowball which can wear you out and turn it into a chore.  That’s no good!

That’s what I did this weekend.  Well, I also packed away the ton of Christmas decor, spoiled the animals with treats and even took a couple of loads of broken limbs down to the burn pile.  We had a storm come through that made a big mess. Mr. Bigs came over to check out what I was doing.  I should probably be more cautious around him but he doesn’t look that intimidating to me.  Actually I laugh at the size of his tiny eyes compared to his extra large curly head.  πŸ˜‰

Happy Redesigning!

The Mister and I were just chatting that when we are there it’s work time and not relax time. But we sneak in a few relaxing moments here and there. When we do we watch Mr. Bigs and the other animals and chat about the spoiled life they have. Thanks for the sweet comment and the visit!

Love the idea of the foot stool as an end table. I have an very old one also and although I use it to reach my high cabinets I like this idea because I have no where to store it. I also like your use of the corner spaces with the furniture not flush to the walls. Thanks for the inspirations.

Thank you Kim. I do not like my furniture up against the walls unless that’s the only choice. Glad you were inspired today! Hearing that makes my week. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

Pretty room, i love the pink and the cute lamp shade and well everything. It looks ready for spring and i think we are suppose to get a few days of nice weather before it gets cold again. Have a great weekend and thanks for the tips.

Yeah, if I lived alone I think I’d have a TON of pink in every room. Probably even for Christmas too. Thanks for the wonderful compliments. I’m ready for spring only because of the sunnier days but not so much the warmer weather. Spring brings summer and humidity and grouchiness. πŸ˜‰ Happy FriYay!

Love the pink you are adding in! I never move the furniture around…isn’t that crazy? Never have. Moving art and accessories is all kinds of fun though. πŸ™‚

That is crazy! I move mine ALL the time. Except the bedroom. Sadly, there’s only one wall for the bed. Hope you are doing well Stacey?! ❀️

I love redesigning also, and really like how you break down the process! Thanks for the tip about the washcloths on hard floors and plastic lids on carpet for moving furniture, genius!

I was in a bind one time so I had to come up with something to move an armoire and sofa! And have actually used that method more than once. LOL. Glad you stopped by. Enjoy your weekend!

I like the fresh look of the room, but I am sorry to say that the lamp looks like someone’s undies. there has to be a better solution.

    • February 2, 2019 / 9:24 pm

That’s funny! I don’t think it looks like undies. It has crocheted details on the edge which is nicer than any undies I’ve ever seen. πŸ™‚ There may be a better solution but sometimes you see something that is Goldilocks perfect. This one came from Ikea. Thanks for the visit and the comment! I enjoy hearing what y’all think.
