Hello Friends!  Today is a Pinterest Challenge day!  Do you love those as much as I do?  Seeing several great ideas using just one photo found on Pinterest?  Yay, me too!  If you are hopping over from French Ethereal, welcome!  Barbara is a dear friend that I wish I could see more often.  Let’s get started with a charming and simple summertime tablescape using a quilt.

You are going to LOVE our inspiration photo this month!  It’s from Karen at Sanctuary Home Decor.  She has a home in California and one in Montana.  During the summer they are usually in Montana.  Her gardens are stunning and she creates the most beautiful tablescapes.  Each one is like looking through the pages of a Veranda magazine.

What I notice about Karen’s beautiful photo is:

It is outdoors

The wooden table and chairs

Clear bottles with flowers

Candles

The place settings

Looks easy to put together with simple clean up (my kinda table!)

The Outdoors

I really do love the pastures and the property surrounding the farmhouse.  The trees around the house are covered with Spanish moss which makes it seem like you’re under a patio or covered somehow so it’s always cozy.

The Wood Table and Chairs

By choosing to keep the table in the yard, we have to use a wooden picnic table so we don’t sink down into the sand.  We added a small patio and  firepit last year with concrete pavers and I thought about switching out the firepit for a table but because there are so many pretty spots, I keep the picnic table here to enjoy a different view.

Clear bottles with flowers

Karen used clear glass bottles with flowers as her centerpiece but I am using a gift from my kids.  This rod made by Terrain attaches to the table.  I am always looking for reasons to use it so hanging these plastic bottles with faux flowers was perfect.  I’ve used Mason jars with water and real flowers but this tablescape was all about the white and green.  Just like in my summer farmhouse tour of the inside.

The Candles

I found these battery operated candles in the At Home store.  They seemed a little short nestled inside the boxwood garland so I sat them on top of a cupcake holder.  They give off a nice glow and we don’t worry about safety or the wind blowing them out.  Although now that I think about it, we should have gotten some citronella candles to keep the bugs away.

The Place Settings

Kinda depends on what things look like but I don’t mind mixing plastic with real plates.  I’m using regular sized green plastic plates from target as a charger since we were only having dessert outside.  They fit the small vintage plates perfectly.  The forks are reusable bamboo and the napkins are Hearth and Hand tea towels from Target.  Bigger is better in my book when it comes to napkins. πŸ˜‰

Our desserts were little individual Key Lime Pie. No I didn’t make them.  Why would I when I can buy them in the freezer section?  They are mini’s from Marie Callender’s that cost about $1.20 each.  That saves me time and clean up.  Win win in my book plus I don’t think mine would have tasted this good.  My stars they were delicious!

Dining outdoors during the summer in Texas is h.o.t. so you want to keep the trips back and forth from the house to a minimum.  You don’t want anyone yelling “we aren’t trying to cool the world so close the door” or working up a sweat trying to make things pretty.  So keeping it simple is key and I think using a quilt as a tablecloth is a fun idea.  I didn’t have to iron it or worry about possible splinters on the table.

After dessert is over (and if the bugs aren’t eating us alive) I’ll flip the switch on these little cuties.  The crocheted ball string lights are another favorite.  Look how pretty they are.  Another added piece of cuteness to a charming and simple summertime tablescape using a quilt.  Now it’s time to be inspired by Angie at Postcards from the Ridge.  She has the best vintage treasures and I’ve always loved her outdoor mantel!  Don’t forget to see the rest of my friends as well.  Just click on the links below.  Enjoy!

Truly the perfect setting for a picnic! LOVE the light and flower rod. Key Lime pie is my favorite. Thank you so much for hosting!

Thanks Laura. Since Key Lime is your fave, you need to buy these little pies! And maybe you can come visit in the fall for Round Top and we can sit out there and enjoy it?! I say, YES!

Cindy, yes, girlfriend, summer in Texas is HOT. But we do love our outdoor spaces. Your setting under the trees looks inviting. I love the lights hanging above the table. Using a quilt as a tablecloth is an awesome idea. Key lime pie is perfect for cooling off on a hot Texas night. Thanks so much for hosting. What a fun challenge.

Don’t we know it?! I can stand (not by much) the heat if I keep my feet wet but the mosquito’s like my sweet skin so I’m a walking OFF commercial any time I go anywhere outdoors. But oh my, last night and today are fabulous! I might just stay outside until I have to go to bed tonight. πŸ™‚ Thank you Carol.

I love your table so much, Cindy! Using a quilt as a tablecloth is such a good idea. I also love the flowers and light on the rod over your table. Wonderful post!

Thanks bunches Paula. That makes me smile. As we put our elbows on the table, we were nice and comfy. LOL.

CIndy, I love the glass bottles suspended above.
It looks cozy! Thank you for coordinating. laura

Thank you Laura. It truly is a cozy space under the trees around there. Have a great week.

Cindy, this looks like a great place to enjoy a summer breeze and snack on those tasty looking key lime pies! Love the quilt as a tablecloth, and those little lights are adorable!

    • June 22, 2021 / 9:53 am

Thank you Angie. I’ve used those crocheted lights on the table and hanging up. They are so fun to use. Happy Summer!

I love your outdoor tablescape Cindy! The setting is perfect and I love the lights and bottles strung across the rod. I love the quilt and it’s such a great idea to use it as a tablecloth. And I love me some key lime pie! Thanks for hosting another awesome Pinterest challenge!

    • June 22, 2021 / 9:57 am

Thanks so much Michelle. I love these challenges. They get me to thinking how to be a little different. It’s a no-brainer for me to use the quilt as a table cloth instead of on the ground. Picnic’s are for when I was younger and could easily get back up off the ground. πŸ˜‰

  7. June 22, 2021 / 9:58 am

You really have the perfect spot for a picnic table Cindy! I could sit here for hours enjoying the great view and company. Love the bar and how you decorated with the hanging bottles and adorable string lights. Such a summery feel to it! We used to use quilts as tablecloths when I was a kid but I had forgotten until I saw yours. Great memories!

    • June 22, 2021 / 10:01 am

Awe, thanks Michelle. I love hearing that my post brought out some great memories. I’ve used quilts several times as a tablecloth. As we slouch and put our elbows on the table, we stay comfy. Just kidding. Or am I? πŸ˜‰

  8. June 22, 2021 / 11:41 am

Everything is so pretty, but you’re much braver (or hardier) than I am as I find it way to hot to eat outside right now! Love how you added the quilt to the picnic table, and those crocheted lights are so cute!

    • June 22, 2021 / 12:26 pm

LOL, nope. I am not braver or hardier than you. It’s hotter than Hades out there. We had to take care of those little key lime pies super fast because they were melting. Although, we had a cold front come through last night and it’s beautiful today! We actually ate out on the patio last night too. Woo hoo!

  9. June 22, 2021 / 11:52 am

As always, I love your spin on the Pinterest Challenge. That lace covered light strand is so pretty, and I would have never guessed the bottles were plastic and the flowers were faux, but it does make sense! No, i’m off to check my grocer’s freezer section for some Key Lime pies!

    • June 22, 2021 / 12:28 pm

If I weren’t planning to make some homemade ice cream this weekend, I’d buy more of those little pies! Thank you Julie for the visit.

I love all your pretty green, what a cozy table setting. Key lime pie and sitting out and enjoying the breeze!!

    • June 22, 2021 / 12:31 pm

Thanks so much Marlene. We’ve had so much rain lately that it’s nice to see all the pastures in a bright green instead of brown. I know that’s coming in about a month. Hope you have a nice weekend.

  11. June 22, 2021 / 12:27 pm

Cindy, I love your table set out in your field! The sweet hanging lights and jars must look really pretty in the evening and the quilt makes a perfect tablecloth. πŸ™‚ I like tea towels as napkins, too.

    Happy summer,
    Barb πŸ™‚

Thank you Barbara, I appreciate that. I’ve used the lights a few times now and we really enjoy them.

  12. June 22, 2021 / 2:52 pm

I love that Terrain rod your kids gave you; so much decor potential! Your pasture in the background is so pretty. Perfect for a country table, set with a quilt:) Just lovely.

    • June 23, 2021 / 9:29 am

Thank you Lora. I forget sometimes how lucky I am. Usually when I’m stupid hot and dripping with sweat from the humidity. But I’m trying to be better and more grateful.

  13. June 22, 2021 / 6:42 pm

Oh my goodness, your outdoor table at the farmhouse is pure perfection! It reminds me of the area where my brother lives. We love visiting because it’s so relaxing. I adore those crochet lights and how you switched things up with the hanging bottles. I have a friend named Marie who makes great frozen pies too! LOL! Happy Summer, and thanks for hosting!

    • June 23, 2021 / 9:39 am

Where does your brother live? I love it around here with lots of quiet dirt roads, rolling hills and trees for miles. There’s actually a lot of history about and around Navasota and it’s so close to so many other great places to visit. As for the tablescape, yep, I’m a switcher when I can be. Thanks to the kids for that one. Hope you have a wonderful week.

I love your Pinterest challenges Cindy and marry that with a tablescape & it’s so much beautiful eye candy! Your table is lovely and can’t wait to peruse all he other tables as well. Of course Karen’s table was the perfect inspiration. Love it all! 🀩. Have a great day. XO- MaryJo

Awe, thanks so much MaryJo. I’m excited to read you love the challenges too! I know you’ll enjoy the rest of the tour. There are some amazing ideas! Happy Summer!

  15. June 22, 2021 / 8:37 pm

Oh, Cindy! This is so pretty. I love that the bottles are suspended and that quilt looks fabulous as a tablecloth. I love the idea of having some crochet ball string lights myself. I only wish I was there having dinner with you my friend. Beautiful.

    • June 23, 2021 / 9:43 am

I wish you were here too Kim. Even though it’s a super long trip and you wouldn’t want to be in Navasteamy during summer. We’d laugh and plan dreams together. Maybe one day I’ll get to Puget Sound? Fingers crossed!

  16. June 22, 2021 / 10:54 pm

super cute, Cindy. I bet those garden lights were gorgeous in the evening!

    • June 23, 2021 / 9:44 am

Yes, the lights are so pretty at night. Thank you for the visit. Hope you are getting better everyday!

  17. June 23, 2021 / 7:02 am

    Cindy,
This is a perfect country cottage look for summer! Using the quilt in this way is so clever plus easy to wash. Love the hanging lights over the table!!

    • June 23, 2021 / 9:45 am

Thanks! My thoughts exactly. Keep it simple with easy clean up. It’s too hot to mess with anything else. πŸ˜‰

  18. June 23, 2021 / 8:18 am

What a charming tablescape! Love that you used a quilt over the picnic table. It gave the tablescape a certain charm. Beautiful!

    • June 23, 2021 / 9:47 am

Thank you Tammy, I love using quilts for all sorts of things and they really do add a certain charm. Wish I knew how or had the patience to learn the art of quilting. I’d probably have them on all the tables around here. πŸ˜‰

  19. June 23, 2021 / 11:30 am

Oh I love this, such a beautiful setting and that quilt is fabulous. I would love to sit there and enjoy the view.

    • June 23, 2021 / 5:18 pm

Thank you Marty. We try and enjoy it every chance we get.

So pretty! I could almost taste that dessert! Here in Maine we are being plagued by ticks and the hairs from the brown moth caterpillars! Such a shame to stay in! At least the caterpillar stage is only supposed to last another week or so but the 1hairs are airborne and make an AWFUL itch! We wail ALL winter for summer and then are stymied again! At least we’re not wearing masks!

    • June 23, 2021 / 5:22 pm

Oh gosh, that sounds terrible. I’ve never heard of the brown moth caterpillar thing but I think I’d stay in too. Hope you can get out soon. Then you can go to the nearest grocery store and check your frozen food section for the mini key lime pies! That will make things better. At least for a day. πŸ˜‰ Thank you for the visit.

  21. June 24, 2021 / 12:54 pm

What a stunning table. And I had never seen anything like that table rod before. What a genius idea! I may need to get one!

    • June 24, 2021 / 2:15 pm

Thank you Jen. I’ve not seen the rods anywhere else either but wow do I love using it. I can’t decide whether fall or Christmas is my favorite time of year to use it. You’ll love it!

  22. June 25, 2021 / 6:46 am

    Cindy,
I love your table and plan to share it on Dirt Road Adventures – Sunday.

    • June 25, 2021 / 10:09 am

Oh my goodness, thank you Rachel. I’m excited!

  23. June 28, 2021 / 2:12 pm

I love all of these ideas! They are so cute!
