Spread the love

Happy Fall Y’all, and welcome to Farmhouse Friday 418.  Friends, I have had a week.  It still feels like summer outside, the hubby is working out of town, so I’m here at the farmhouse alone.  Not really alone, I have my daughter’s dog with me.  I love him, but yesterday I thought about sending him back to the streets of Houston, where he was found.

All was quiet until bedtime.  I let him out to potty, and he sees a mouse.  He decided Gamms needed protecting, wherefore chaos ensues.  He’s running around on the porch, knocking over the rocking chairs, and I’m screaming – stop, oh my gosh, stop, and he was having none of it.  He finally succeeded, and the chase was over.  Although now, I’m screaming at the top of my lungs for him to drop it while he’s looking at me to calm down and trying to head for the door.  I think that he thinks I’m going to let him in so he can finish his late-night snack on the rug.  My panic mode remains unchanged as I’m still yelling drop it when the command is – leave it.  We finally came to an agreement, and as he drops it from his mouth, he’s glaring at me like he did me a favor.

I ultimately get him inside and give him one of those green minty breath bones, hoping he’ll forgive me for the confusion.  As I lie in bed, I’m hoping some other critter will take care of the dead carcass before morning.  No such luck.  I had to pick it up and dispose of it myself before letting the dog back out to potty.  I am not cut out for country life when the hubby isn’t here.

Let’s get to the features this week.  Our theme is DIY Goodness.

FARMHOUSE FRIDAY 418

I am all about using what you already have, so when I saw Sandi from Old, New, Green, Redo blog, I couldn’t resist the feature.  You’ll want to stop by and see her step-by-step process so you can make one too.  I’m definitely looking for a greenhouse frame!

Yep, that would have definitely send me over the edge…I do not care for finding a dead mouse somewhere in the yard after the Winter let alone if it was brought to me as a present…LOL!

It definitely felt like I had invited myself into a comedy hour. Thanks for linking up Julie!

Life around here is never dull even though some days I wish it were. Thank you Cecilia for the visit!

Hi Cindy! You had me chuckling with your country adventure. Dogs are the best but then there’s this. They look at it as bringing you a gift I read somewhere. It’s a gift you can’t even regift. lol. Stay well friend and thank you for the party. XO- MaryJo

I could see the wheels turning in his head wondering why I wasn’t as thrilled as he was. Ayi yi yi. Have a great week MaryJo.

Oh, CIndy, I’d be just like you, yelling at my granddog to drop it! I love that our neighbor’s cat is a hunter, but I hope I never see her gift on my doorstep. I love the posts featured this week. I pinned Julie’s but the link here didn’t work (I still found it, though!). THanks so much for the time you take to put these weekly features together. I’m casting spells with a Halloween tablescape, and made a switcharoo with dining furntiure, casting a spell on a local consignment shop to exchange and sell my old dining set! It worked!

    • October 13, 2025 / 12:46 pm

That’s marvelous! I want to sell my dining and breakfast table. I need to find something I like first since I host Thanksgiving this year. Happy for you. The ol’ switcharoo is awesome! Have a great week. And thanks for letting me know about the link. I’ll check it.

Oh, goodness, Cindy! Your dog-mouse story reminded me of when I was caring for our grandpup and she brought me a similar “present”. Not my favorite (and my hubby wasn’t around that time, either)! We’re sharing #92 today and, as always, we’re so happy to be here!

    • October 13, 2025 / 12:48 pm

It seems awfully coincidental that my hubby is gone when I need him the most. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for the link and visit Laura. Hope you have a great week.

Thank you so much for the feature Cindy! I’m still laughing at the city dog vs. country mouse story! Been there my friend, and it never ends well for the mouse or the person cleaning up the mess! ๐Ÿ˜‚

    • October 13, 2025 / 12:50 pm

Of course Michelle. Those pumpkins are so stinkin’ cute! Hope you have a great week! ๐Ÿ™‚

It is my pleasure Sandra. Thank YOU for linking up! Hope you have a great week.

  10. October 12, 2025 / 3:25 pm

Such a funny story! I have cats, and I could tell you a lot of mice stories quite similar to this one! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • October 13, 2025 / 12:53 pm

Oh gosh! We’ve discussed a cat but fear that they are such little hunters that it would be a circus around here. Thanks for the visit Amy. Enjoy your week.

  11. October 14, 2025 / 3:48 am

Your story with the dog made me smile. I can totally understand your panic though.
