It’s almost Memorial Day, so I thought I’d show you how to add simple patriotic vibes to your festivities. You know, just in case you’d like your home to look a bit more momentous for the occasion. Plus, these ideas will look great all summer long as well.
How To Add Simple Patriotic Vibes To Your Festivities!
Say hello with a welcoming basket!
Starting with the entry or porch, a basket holding a couple of flags and flowers is a wonderful greeting. It shows you remember the sacrifice that was given for our freedom and in a tasteful, graceful manner.
Blue and white pillows declare summer vibes and look great with all patriotic decor. The blues don’t have to be the exact same color either. Mix and match a solid pillow, a patterned pillow, and a large print for perfection. A jar full of small flags can also work anywhere.
How about a patriotic table for 2?
Speaking of patterns, the tablecloths are two square pieces of fabric layered on top of each other for better coverage. There was no sewing involved. I frayed the edges on the painter’s drop cloth and used pinking shears for the hydrangea fabric. I love the look. It screams classic summertime to me.
When I added the hanging basket to the window, it needed a little more pizzazz so I added the small banner across the front. Anyone can make it. It’s just strips of inexpensive fabric from Hobby Lobby tied to a string.
This setup could be the talk of the neighborhood.
Do you have a front yard where people will gather to watch a parade? Maybe you are having a block party? All you need is seating with patriotic pillows, some flags, a bucket of drinks, and ice cold popsicles. And the extra decorations certainly won’t hurt.
Do you have a tea cart, rolling cart, or a drop leaf table you could use somewhere? Create a drink station or a dessert cart with red, white, and blue items. Designated stations are great for get-togethers and parties. If you’d like the tutorial for the vintage birdcage turned food tent, click here.
Vintage crocks to the rescue!
I use my vintage pitchers and crocks for most of our outdoor activities. They are heavy so I don’t worry about them blowing over or spilling. To jazz up the pitcher, I used double-sided tape and red ribbon in between the blue lines. Easy peasy!
This is an old baby bassinet (I think). I laugh at the thought of it, really. Just look at it compared to the fancy bassinets we have today. Although I imagine way back then, some people would have loved having one. Even one that seems uncomfortable and dangerous. Heck, our last baby was so chubby when she was born that laying her in it might have caused a collapse! Anyway, using unusual pieces make for fun conversation. And they come in quite handy.
A quick and easy way to add craftiness!
I was teased about this idea. My people said I had too much time on my hands. Maybe so, but the tray had extra merriment when I walked outside with it.
All I did to fancify everything was add Washi-tape around the plastic utensils and cut up tissue paper to use on the toothpicks. It takes only a few minutes. If you’d like that super easy tutorial, click here.
Last but not least, adding small flags to fruit bowls for added flair is extremely simple. It will take your table from drab to fab. Whether using paper plates or china, don’t forget to mix and match them for interest. And for an easy centerpiece, drop candles inside bottles or vases. And don’t forget to clip a few stems from outside.
All of the ideas are inexpensive and doable!
I hope you’ve seen how to add simple patriotic vibes to your festivities from the photos above. BTW, if you need an easy-to-make dessert for the occasion, check this one out! Literally, every single person at the party asked for the recipe. Yep, it’s that good!
So many festive ideas. Great post.
