With Autumn upon us and many of us pulling out the fall decor, I wanted to share 9 vintage pieces to look for this fall. That way, when you’re out and about and find a store you’d like to pop into, you’ll have a list.
9 Vintage Pieces To Look For This Fall
I admit, I enjoy spending hours roaming around an antique store. Not so much in a thrift store. Thrifting is extremely popular right now, and we are saving the planet, but it’s simply not my thing. Perhaps it’s the area I live in? I have to drive 20+ minutes to find one, and each one is terrible.
They are always messy, dirty, and unorganized. No stanks!
Besides that, here’s what I think you can easily find and use while decorating your home this season. And these items will look nice every year because they are timeless.

Quirky works!
I’ve seen these little heads everywhere. Some are Royal Doulton Toby Face Mugs from England. Mine is a sugar and creamer set from occupied Japan (given to me by the best kind of friend). Each of them comes in fun faces, shapes, sizes, and colors. Gotta love the fun, quirky stuff!

Brass is back and better than ever!
Brass is popular and has been for a while. That might be why I see a lot of brass figurines and bells these days. This small figurine/bell is one of my favorite finds from our trip to Maine. I also have a brass deer that looks great at Christmas and a brass horse that looks classic all year round.

Personalize your space with animals!
Ducks of all colors, shapes, sizes, and materials are also popular. So are swans. I think the ducks suit my personality better. I certainly don’t feel like a graceful swan when I’m walking down the street and trip over my own two feet. At least I have good posture. ๐ Look for squirrels, foxes, ducks, horses, etc. I prefer the wooden, ceramic, or even plastic ducks, as the handmade duck decoys can be expensive.

Did you know what these were?
I’m sure you’ve seen amber colored bottles everywhere. When I found the one on the left, I thought it was so pretty with the flowers on the front. As soon as I got it home, the Mister said – This is an old flask whiskey bottle. I thought he was pulling my leg and had to look it up. I was surprised, but I love it all the more. And I bet it has a great story.

It’s okay to be obvious!
Leaf-shaped ceramic pieces are also popular for fall decorating. This one is about the size of my hand. I’ll add a tealight when guests come over, but it’s so pretty just sitting alone. The similar candy dish gets used a lot for obvious reasons. Whatever you find that has a leaf shape, bring it home. You’ll find something to do with it. You could add little acorns to them or use them for bread or as dessert dishes. If you find one about 4-5″ in diameter, try using it as a butter pat!

Color and texture are always timeless and trendy.
I see vintage biscuit jars from England quite often. I’ve seen at least 5 cookie jars per visit at antique stores. Some are a bit bright for fall vibes, but many are just like the one above. If I had more room, I’d buy several! Not only are they adorable but they can be handy for storage if you need it.

If you have a small shelf, they make fabulous kitchen decor accessories. Group them together a larger impact or space them out for pops of color around your home.

Get creative!
Hand-painted artwork in your particular taste might be a little difficult, but they are there. I see one or two at every store I visit. I choose to keep them small and in my budget. The autumn colors are what drew my eye to the one above. Not the poor little sheep that looks like it went through a fence and got its neck stuck.
I enjoy painting and should create my own, but who has the time? One day I will. Then maybe I’ll get rich using our dogs and their shenanigans as subject matter.

I am smitten with antique Majolica pieces. Maybe it’s an obsession. I have some that are authentic (not fall colors) and a couple of reproductions (like the one above). Whether or not you want the real deal, you can find them almost anywhere. They can be pricey, but oh my golly, they are lovely.
Well, there are the 9 vintage pieces for fall to look for this year. Do you have some already? Have you been out and about looking for classic or timeless pieces instead of shopping at the big box stores? Let me know in the comments some of your favorite fall pieces.
This was so fun to read! Iโm sorry about the sad state of thrift shops where you live. But your antique stores seem very well stocked! I love the ceramic biscuit jars, and have thought more than once about picking up duck of some kind.!

Thank you Kristine! I just found another small biscuit jar from England priced at $20.00 because it didn’t have a lid. And the entire booth was 75% off! Even without a lid, I’ll snatch it up for $5.00! It’s has the brighter colors so I’ll share it in the spring. Hope you find and get the best duck ever. Happy hunting. ๐
You do have wonderful pieces. I do have a leaf dish and some pretty Fall pitchers. Thanks and have a wonderful day with your old whiskey bottle. haha! { I wouldn’t have known either}

If someone carried that bottle around full of whiskey, it would rip their pocket right off. When it’s empty, it has substantial weight. Ha! Do you use your fall pitchers for flowers, liquids, or something else? I wish I could see them. I bet there beautiful. Thanks for stopping by today. Hope you have a great week.
Cindy ,
You always make me laugh when I’m reading your articles. The way you comment “No Stanks!”. I do love thrifting but here in Ontario Canada we do not have alot of Thrift or Antique Stores. SIGH!! I do love your English Cottage Creamer set..Sometimes you are lucky and they were produced in England or times the were mass produced in Japan.. They are all pretty!!
Enjoy your day…

Aww, thank you Lorri. I’m glad you enjoy reading. I am so grateful for each of you that visit and absolutely love when you comment. That’s how I get to know you a little better. The hubs and I were just talking about visiting Canada was reminded to get my passport. Ugh. I hear dealing with our postal service for that is quite a chore. Still doing it though! I’ve heard there are many “Hallmark” type towns in Canada. That’s really sad that you don’t have many antique stores. What do you have – consignment stores? Happy Wednesday. ๐
Cindy, I’m with you on antique mall mall vs thrift store for shopping vintage. Not that I’m biased or anytjing, having booth spaces in an antique mall for 17 years. I love estate sales too, but don’t like yard sales (unless I’m selling, and never at my own house, lol).
I love ALL your fall treasures. The majolica pitcher is a favorite, and tour Toby mugs are cool. I recently found a really neat RD Toby head whiskey decanter at an estate sale, love it. I’m also in the brass camp – they store easily and look sharp.
Happy October!

The antique stores that have booths are my favorite kind. The ones that don’t (at least around me) are super expensive. When I walk in it feels like you don’t even want to touch anything. ๐ I would love a Toby head whiskey decanter. Hopefully you’ll share it on your blog one day?! Thank you Rita. You always brighten my day.
I love your finds! I love thrift shopping, and we have some very nice and pretty stores around here so it’s a joy.

I guess I need to come visit around where you live Nicole! I honestly don’t know where a good thrift store can be found. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a great weekend.
You find the best little treasures Cindy! I’m still looking for Majolica but not having much luck! Happy October my friend!

Thank you Michelle. I love the “hunt”. What I’m looking for, and have been collecting lately, are the beautiful green McCoy pottery pieces. My gosh, I love that green! I am hoping to one day fill up and display them all in my little cabinet/shelves in the kitchen. And if you find two of the same majolica pieces, get one for me! It will make us finally get to that lunch we’ve been talking about. ๐
