Mixing old and new decor for a lively spring console table

Spread the love

Hey there friends.  It’s Pinterest Challenge Day and we are sharing Spring Vignettes!  I love change and enjoy having a new look in my home every season.  What I don’t like is spending the money to get that new look.  The stores are full of colorful pieces but I can’t justify spending the money.  So instead of always buying (and wondering where to store it) new things, I think mixing old and new decor for a lively spring console table is the answer.

Mixing Old And New Decor For A Lively Spring Console Table

If you hopped over from Everyday Edits, thanks so much!  I’m glad you’re here.  If you’ve not been here before, click here to get to know me better.  I’d love for us to be friends!

console table with lamp, plants, basket and books

Our inspiration photo is from Leen at Sand Dollar Lane.  I love the soft bright colors she chose for her entry table.  And the plants are a must for any spring decorating.  Here’s what I would like to incorporate from Leen’s photo.

  • Similar console table
  • Lamp
  • Large pitcher with stems
  • Plants
  • Old blue bottles
  • Basket on the bottom

As I’ve said before most of our entry is behind the front door.  This is what you see (Dining Room) as you walk inside.  At least for spring.  I change things up monthly if not weekly.  If I’m bored, something gets moved.  The table works out well.  We’ve used it as a sideboard for desserts, as a plop-everything-down table and for seasonal pretties.

Let’s talk about what I’ve added that is similar to Leen’s spring looking table.  First is the lamp.  I’ve had this one over a year but you can still get it at Target (linked here).  I love the texture and you can choose whichever lampshade you prefer.  BTW:  When you add a lamp to any table, the lampshade shouldn’t be wider than the table depth.  ๐Ÿ˜‰

She also has old blue bottles.  I try and use my collection as much as I can.  The smallest one is a vintage French yogurt jar.  At least that’s what I was told when I bought it.  Right now it’s for propagating whatever plant that is.  My daughter did this.  You know it wasn’t me even though I’m reaping the benefit.

Leen used a super cute pitcher for her stems but I didn’t have one even close to that but she also used white containers in different spots.  And since the pinterest challenges are all about changing things to fit our own styles, I used the white pitcher I already had.  I found the stems at a Store called The Findery.  It’s just down from Magnolia Market in Waco, TX.  There are two stores and my fave is the large one where they keep the big furniture.

Something I think screams spring time is greenery.  It can be real or fake but you need it.  Leen used several pieces of greenery on her table but why not on the wall?  These galvanized buckets were used in last years spring mantel.  But any basket or bucket will do for adding greenery to the walls.  Just keep them light and not too heavy.

So for me, mixing old and new decor for a lively spring console table was perfect.  Now it’s time to visit Cindy at DIY Beautify.  You’ll love her spring console table!  Then don’t forget to visit the rest of my friends.  Each of us have different styles so it makes the Pinterest Challenges even more interesting to look at.  Thanks for stopping by!

Cindy, I love your entry table – even in your dining room. Great lines and I love the neutral finish. The blue jars are a favorite for spring – I have several too. Mixing the old and new is always a smart idea. Thank you for hosting. You picked a really great inspiration photo.

So pretty! I absolutely loved the hanging greens in the frames. Such a unique touch. I love how fresh this entire look is for spring.

    • February 22, 2022 / 12:09 pm

I usually have plates inside the frames but I was excited to have two of something that would work! I realized a while back I needed to start getting two identical things sometimes. I usually get one larger and one smaller etc. Glad it worked out this time. Thank you Christy!

I love it Cindy! The blues and greens are so pretty together and give me all the spring feels. Your glass jars are beautiful!

    • February 22, 2022 / 12:10 pm

I have a lots more jars that you’ll see in the Spring Tour hop coming up in March. I love each and every one and actually think I need more! Thank you for the enthusiastic comment. Made my day.

THE PICTURE FRAME IS SO CUTE WITH THE BUCKET AND GREENERY. LOVE IT.

    • February 22, 2022 / 12:12 pm

A few years ago when I got those buckets I didn’t think I’d use them that often because of the flowers on the front but they continue to make me smile. Thanks so much Rebecca.
Hope you have a nice week.

I love the colors of your jars and then that different, white lamp. Thanks for the lamp shades info. Your area is so spring and I love the plates in your basket. pinned it. I am so ready for Spring and enjoyed your post.

    • February 22, 2022 / 12:14 pm

So glad you found something worth pinning Marlene! Thank you. I always enjoy your comments. Bring on spring!

This is my kind of spring decorating Cindy! Love your blue glass collection and the framed bucket with greenery. The basket holding the white dishes is a brilliant addition. I want to lean into the photo to admire those pretty platters! Fresh and lovely my friend!

    • February 22, 2022 / 2:19 pm

You are so sweet Michelle, thank you. You made my day. It’s hard to cover up that ugly vent under the table. When I put things there I notice it more than when I keep it empty. I had taken a close up photo of the platters but the vent made it so ugly. #TheStruggleIsReal. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love that aqua pedestal jar! Where did you get that? Your console looks lovely, Cindy!

    • February 22, 2022 / 2:23 pm

Considering I have no clue what a pedestal jar is, I don’t know. If it’s the Atlas jar with the tea light inside, I got it at an antique store somewhere a few years ago. Thank you for stopping by and the sweet comment Julie. Hope you are having a wonderful week!

    • February 23, 2022 / 12:55 pm

For some reason your comment was in my brain again this morning so I looked back at the photo and just realized what you were talking about! hahahahahaha. The jar is plastic and I got it a few years ago from Hobby Lobby. Doesn’t most of what I buy come from there? ๐Ÿ˜‰ It’s filled with vintage medicine bottle lids. Is that weird? Sorry for the late reply. I had a brain f_r_.

  10. February 22, 2022 / 4:06 pm

Bummed that I don’t have a sofa/console table anywhere in my home:( But glad we can make these challenges fit our homes! Love bringing out those aqua blue ball jars this time of year! Nice roots:)

    • February 23, 2022 / 12:40 pm

LOL, those roots kinda give me the creeps but I’m too lazy to plant them. The only thing I want to plant is flowers in the 2 pots on the porchette and that’s it. Worms creep me out, lizards creep me out, frogs creep me out and don’t even get me started on the possible chance of seeing a snake. My cardiologist advises against all outdoor labor. LOL!

  11. February 22, 2022 / 4:14 pm

So many great tips Cindy! I love the color of your table, and the blue glass with all the greenery says SPRING!! I LOVE the Findery too! And look at your beautiful basket filled with vintage plates…you KNOW I’m loving that! I was out thrifting this morning and found a gorgeous large vintage platter with pink florals!

    • February 23, 2022 / 12:42 pm

Oh my soul I’m so jealous of that new platter! I would have snatched that up so quick. Thank you for the sweet comment. I have actually really enjoyed seeing how it’s decorated. Have a great week and stay warm! Praying for you guys.

    • February 23, 2022 / 12:49 pm

You are the queen of cozy and greenery/plants/flowers so hearing that makes me smile. Thanks so much!

  13. February 23, 2022 / 9:28 am

Cindy, I love so many things about your spring table! The greenery basket inside the frame is lovely! And I am definitely going to steal the white plates in a basket, too. So simple, yet so pretty!

    • February 23, 2022 / 12:51 pm

So sweet of you to say Niky. I keep those platters handy because I use them every chance I get. So I know you’ll enjoy doing that too. Have fun!

  14. February 23, 2022 / 8:34 pm

Oh I’ve been to The Findery! My daughter lived in Tyler for a while and one visit we went to Waco! I too can’t justify buying all of the new things each season! Timeless for the win! Pinned!

    • February 24, 2022 / 11:38 am

Aren’t they great stores?! I love them both. Thank you for the pin and the visit. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

These pops of pale blue are gorgeous, Cindy! They’re the perfect color to transition from spring to summer. I love all the etching on the jars and the way you have the wall vase full of greenery too. Don’t even get me started with the plates in the baskets – gah – I totally need to steal that – it’s beautiful! Love your style lady and your sweet heart too. Big hugs, CoCo

    • March 4, 2022 / 4:42 pm

LOL, you can steal anything since I steal from you. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Love your style as well. Thank you
