I Found More Bottles!

Spread the love

It’s finally March and spring is just around the corner!  Okay, maybe not that close but only 19 more days – Yay!  It’s been cloudy and gloomy around here so what do I do to lift my spirits?  I springified (new word) the stone mantel.  And guess what?

I found more bottles!

I suppose I have more bottles than I thought but don’t think that’s going to stop me from buying more.  Actually, I hope I find some today while at First Monday Trade Days in Canton, TX!  That’s right, today I’m cruisin’ down the road with my BFF, headed to LaurieAnna’s and the biggest little flea market in north Texas!  Woo hoo!

On another note, I’m not sure why I haven’t thought of this before.  I’m always complaining about my unlevel puny stone fireplace mantel.  When I was digging out more bottles, I remembered a long piece of something-or-other that I found about a year ago on a road trip.  I’ve used it in a centerpiece on the dining table but now it’s on the mantel and helps with the unevenness of the stone.  No more stuffing little pieces of paper under things to keep them from falling over!  🙂

As you look on the mantel, you may think I’ve gone a bit over board with the bottles but remember, I’m adding blue to the entire house this year.

Blue everywhere is the theme!

Plus, how can you go wrong with fresh flowers?  You can’t!  I did however notice I got a little zealous with the amount of bottles and greenery.  In the first mantel picture, the mantel is stuffed with blooms.  I think it’s a bit much.  I don’t really notice the flowers or bottles.  My eyes kept going to the outside of the fireplace, passing over the bottles.

So I removed the two bottles with the green limbs first.  It was better and looked less crowded but decorating is a trial and error thing.  Even for the famous designer professionals. They never place an accessory and leave it.  They turn and edit and toss and plump just like us unfamous people.

I stepped back and still wasn’t that excited about it.  I liked all the color.  Hello, that’s what spring is all about.  So I made myself a sandwich and waited.  I looked at it a couple of times and then it hit me.  I should remove the tall topiaries on the ends and add the other bottles back with the limbs.  Side note:  If the flowers were all white or all green etc., I think the amount of bottles wouldn’t matter.  They would look amazing together.  Just not with this much color.  At least not today.  You never know about tomorrow.  🙂

Isn’t it amazing what a little turkey sandwich and Doritos can do?  I find it more peaceful yet fun to look at now.  The blooms aren’t fighting to be seen.

So when you question your decor project, take a break, play around with it and eat a sandwich.  You’ll be surprised what inspiration comes after a full tummy.  And maybe a cookie.

Happy Spring Decorating Friends!

I think the mantel looks lovely and better without the topiaries. They kind of overtook everything else. Lucky you to be headed to the flea market. Sounds like my kind of weekend. Enjoy!

Thanks Lynda, me too. The flea market today is going to be cold but so worth it! Maybe we’ll get some good deals.

I love all the color! Have you thought of putting a little deeper wood piece the whole width of the fireplace? It would look sharp with the stone shelf under it as the bracket and would give you more room for display. I love the stone on your fireplace, so pretty.

Thank you Kathleen. We’ve thought of covering the mantel with a mantel casing but that is obviously “on the list”. Not sure I understand your concept. Sounds cool. If it’s easier and gives me more display space – I’m in!

Wow. I’d love to fill my porch with bottles but I think I’d break them all. And I’m a cake eater so I’d prefer that but cookies are the next best thing. Hope you have a great weekend!
