Hello Beautiful Friends! Do you still have your fall decorations out but are maybe thinking about Christmas decor? I hope so because I wanted to show you how to easily make mini pine trees for Christmas. Not only are they adorable and affordable but the pots they are in can be adapted to work with every decor style there is!
How To Easily Make Mini Pine Trees for Christmas
A couple of weeks ago my high school bestie and I went to the Vintage Market Trade Days in Decatur, TX. My Mister was out of town playing on the tractor and her Mister was doing paper work type stuff and some needed errands so it was a perfect day for vintage treasure hunting. Right off the bat I found darling mini pine looking trees with burlap covered bottoms that were $7.00. That’s less than the trees you find at 50% off at Hobby Lobby so I purchased the 4 she had left.
Then a booth or three down the way I found a couple of silver plated creamers, bowls and a couple of little aluminum kettles. Each were less than $3.00. I was in vintage junkin’ heaven! Right about then I had an epiphany. My great idea was to use/upcycle the little creamers and pots for the bases to the trees. It’s like rustic meets luxe or Montana meets Texas! Not that our house is luxe. That’s just what I think of fabulous tarnished silver. Like my DIY Tarnished Silver Tray Wreath! I love it! My issue was that only one of the small trees I bought fit in a container. So, I need to make some.
I think the small aluminum kettles look more farmhousy in style but the silver plated creamers and bowls look more classic. So the kettles will go to the house in Navasota and I’ll keep the others at our home in Highland Village.
Supply List:
Silver plated bases like sugar bowls or creamers
Floral foam
Spanish Moss
Knife
Greenery branch (faux from Hobby Lobby, real and free from anywhere they have extra “trash” branches)
Wire Cutters if using faux branches
Hot glue and glue gun
Someone to tell you to stop boasting about your creations
Steps To Making The Adorable Creations
Step one is to cut the floral foam (I used a kitchen butter knife) to snuggly fit inside of your pot. If you accidentally cut it to small, you can glue it inside the bottom of the pot using hot glue or keep cutting smaller pieces to fill the gaps.
Step two is to cut each stem from the main greenery branch. You can use any type of greenery branch you’d like. You’ll need one medium sized branch for a tree about 10″ tall and 5 ” wide. You can use real stems if you’d like. If you do, just buy the wet floral foam. That way your fresh stems will stay softer for a longer period. These are faux branches if you couldn’t tell. 😉
Step three is figure out how you want your branches to look and simply poke them into the floral foam. If it makes you feel better, wire them together to make one stem then poke it in.
Step four – glue moss to the top of the foam so you can’t see it.
Deebedeebedeebedee, that’s all folks! So easy and so stinkin’ cute! If your tree is top heavy, cut the stems shorter or hot glue the foam inside the base/pot and it should be fine. Or put it in a heavier base or weigh down the pot with small rocks.

Oooo Terry, I bet the wooden tree will be cool! Glad you like the idea. If you want an extra boost of a real tree fragrance, add a few essential oil drops. I fake everyone out when I do that plus it smells fab-u-lous!
