Adding Solar Lights To The Back Fence

Hello Friends!  I know we’re all dreaming of places to go and things to do once this Covid thing passes.  Am I right?  My plan is getting Tex Mex food (maybe 7 days in a row) and definitely spending the rest of the day roaming around in Home Goods!  But since I can’t go anywhere and online shopping is the next best thing.  With that, here’s what we’ve been up to – adding solar lights to the back fence.

Adding Solar Lights To The Back Fence

I was sent this product for review.  All opinions are my own and I’m very truthful.  The cross-my-heart-and-hope-to-die, stick-a-needle-in-my-eye kind of truthful!  See Disclosure Policy (found at bottom of page) for details.

The Mister has always, and I mean always, been a negative Ned when it comes to solar lighting.  So when I was given the product I’m reviewing today and told him I wanted to add them to the back fence, he just gave me a look and said we’ll see.  Even when I mentioned that the back yard would look so much better and it wouldn’t use electricity and lights made things safer and that the dog that’s afraid to stay outside in the dark but needs to poop would love it too, he still wasn’t convinced.

A couple of days later, the Amazon Angels delivered a box set of four, LITOM 120 LED Solar Motion Sensor Lights (affiliate link). I was eager to add them to the back fence.  Besides being hesitant, the Mister is also protective of all things yard related.  I’m not even allowed to touch his lawnmower.  Fine by me, but can we hurry up and get the new lights up?!

I wanted to see the solar lights in action!

Heaven forbid we add a hole in the fence to try one out.  So on the first day he sat one light out on the table to begin charging.  It was a cloudy day so understandably we didn’t think it would be very bright.  Before night time rolled around and he tacked it up on the fence.  Lo and behold, the Mister said hmm, look how bright it is.  Um, did I just hear what I think I heard?!  Was that a positive reaction?  No way!

He said, I’ll go ahead and mount this one to the fence and tomorrow we’ll decide where we want the others to go.  I seriously couldn’t believe my ears but I was excited.  The next couple of days we had clouds, rain and more clouds.  I didn’t think we’d ever see a full charge on the solar lights.

They worked perfectly!

I’m a light sleeper and our bedroom is on the back side of the house.  That first night I got up a couple of times to check the lights.  They stayed on all night long even without the recommended 1-2 day sunny charge.  What I like the most is that they are hardly noticeable during the day and we have 3 different modes or options when using these LED Solar Lights (affiliate link).  We chose mode 2.  That mode comes on bright when someone or something walks by but dim after 30 seconds if there is no other movement.

Our back fence is approximately 60 feet long.  We used 3 of the lights on the back fence and hung them at the top just under the 8 foot high top piece.  They give off enough light to cover the entire length of the yard and it’s depth as well.  But you can see we have a shallow yard.

The 4th light was installed on the brick on the side of the yard close to the gate and all the hardware you need is included with the kit.  I’ve been very pleased with the look and have been amazed at the brightness and longevity considering the amount of cloudy days we’ve had.

Guess who can hardly stop talking about them?

Mhmm, you got it – the Mister!  He actually loves them and wants to begin adding floral beds to the back fence.  If I knew solar lights would have gotten this type reaction, I would have purchased them years ago!  And if we could get our dogs to stop using the yard it as a personal bathroom, that would be fantastic!

If anyone else has been hesitant to use solar lighting because they don’t seem to work all that well, I’m here to say, solar lights have come along way friends.  We are going to look for other lights by LITOM (affiliate link) to see what else we need – that’s how impressed we are!

Here’s a quick time lapse video so y’all can see how well they light up the yard.

Happy Spring Friends!

Cindy, I love this idea!!! I never think we have enough light in our backyard. I finally convinced Sweet Shark to use the solar lights that you stick in the ground and now he likes them. Will definitely check these out.

If Sweet Shark likes the ones that go in the yard, he’ll really like these. They are easily mounted with a screw and slide onto a bracket. Thanks Carol!

Carol, I just had to poach into this conversation. I love your sweet shark reference. Cracks me up everytime! laura

I’ve been thinking of doing this for a while now, but, I have the same problem with the Mister and Im crafty but not handy at all!!! Im going to just buy some and find a way to convince him to put them up😂

We see solar lights in different yards around in our neighborhood and they literally don’t even light the 4 foot pathway where they are placed. But since these are LED he gave it a try. Now I hear him telling people how great they are. I’m sure y’all will like them and they mount with a screw and slide onto a bracket. Easy peasy! Best wishes Marie!

HI Cindy, I was just looking at a set of these on Wayfair last night. Are yours plastic or metal? How did they attach to the fence?I love the time lapse video too! Happy Weekend! laura

    • April 17, 2020 / 11:52 am

Thank you Laura. The time lapse video was the Mister’s idea. The lights are plastic, water proof, heat and frost resistant. You screw one hook onto the fence and the light comes with a bracket on the backside. You just slip the light onto the hook and it’s done. Easy peasy!

I love this! We Are currently adding a pool, beds, kitchen and a fire pit to our back yard. The Hubs has been after me to make some decisions about where to run electric and I’m on overload just picking the tile for the pool! lol I feel like these would be perfect along the north fence line which is furthest from the house but at the end of the pool. I love that you can put them on different settings too.Thank you for sharing Cindy.

My pleasure Tammy! I wish we could fit in a pool! Sounds like some fun decisions!!

Preach is Sister! My hubs and son both think I know very little. They question if I can hang a picture correctly even though I’ve done it by myself for years. You will like these and they are super easy to install! Go Girl Power!

    Cindy,

I love these so much! I was about to buy three packs of them—but I had a quick question. Are they motion sensored or do they stay on?

I really want them to stay on all night!

    Happy day friend!

We do too! They have 3 light modes to choose from. We chose mode 2 where they stay on all night on dim (which is still bright) until there’s motion. Then they come on high then dim again when there’s no more movement. What you probably want is Mode 3 which will keep them on without dimming all night long. They are water proof and heat and frost resistant. Super easy to install and barely noticeable.

I like that they are unobtrusive during the day! I need something brighter in the side of the house! I’ll give these a try!
I’ll look forward to seeing what you do with garden beds!!

    • April 18, 2020 / 12:31 am

Oh my soul! It’s Jeanette Starnes! THE Jeanette Starnes! I can’t believe my eyes- you actually read a blog post AND commented?! That just made my day! And it’s only 12:30 AM! You know the Mister, whatever we do it will be low maintenance and very cost effective. 😉

I’m very impressed by the look of these. The functionality and price are great. Glad the “boyz” can see when they use the urinal, now. It’s never cool to have to feel your way to the bathroom. 😶😷

Oh my word. Yes, at least the dogs can see. 😉

Hi. Are you by chance able to send me the link? When I clicked on links within post, it gives me an error. Perhaps they are sold out. If they are, I’d love to get the name of set so I can find elsewhere. They look amazing in your yard! I really appreciate your post.

    • June 19, 2023 / 6:16 pm

I am so sorry but that post was written in April of 2020. I checked and they no longer sell those. I would recommend any of the other solar LED lights on Amazon that have a lot of good reviews. Ours still look and work great. Hope that helps. Thank you for reading. Best Wishes
