It’s that time of year when we decide it’s time to remove the Christmas decor. Some have a feeling of urgency because it has been up long before Thanksgiving, and we are tired of looking at it. Some of us also like the breathable empty spaces it brings. Then some people like the warmth and coziness but want a pared-down look, but still have a Christmas tree. There are lots of reasons to keep it up, take it down, or change it altogether. Wherever you fit in, here are 7 easy home decorating ideas for wintertime.
7 Easy Home Decorating Ideas For Wintertime
Pinecones or Sugar Cones have great texture!
Let’s begin with something you can probably find outside on the ground. The lovely pinecone. Pinecones are perfect all season long. The color, the texture, and the different sizes allow for all kinds of things. Hanging them, putting them in a crock or bowl, adding them around the base of a candle, etc. I’ve hung these in front of an antique mirror for extra depth and look.
Wildlife is always in.
Do you have any wildlife that can be displayed? For example – deer, moose, squirrels, fox, bear, snowy owls, birds, etc. Just think of the whimsy and smiles they bring. Display a few around the house then sit back and enjoy.

Don’t forget about texture. All three of the pillows on the sofa are soft and perfect for colder months. I feel throw blankets and quilts are a must during winter and also create texture. Add one across the entire back of the sofa, lay one across an ottoman or down the center of a chair. You can also put a couple of them inside a basket and sit it next to a chair.
We can’t forget about extra candles!
Next on the list is candles. The days are shorter and in some places very gloomy or dreary. We use Hue bulbs that come on automatically inside our home but I also light candles for an extra glow and snuggly atmosphere.
Greenery also creates a cozy vibe and it’s okay to keep it out.
Greenery is my favorite home decor item worth keeping out all season long. I love to be surrounded by plants – real or artificial. If you prefer not to turn on the twinkle or fairy lights, it’s okay. Just keep using the garland. But if there are any Christmas picks inside, go ahead and pack those away.
Antlers are awesome winter decor pieces!
I mentioned pinecones earlier, but another great winter staple is the antler. I prefer the white ones, but even the brown/creamy colored antlers look nice. You can use them in garland, as a centerpiece, in a lantern, or as a single decor item.

Did you see anything you’d like to try from the 7 easy home decorating ideas for wintertime? Other items you could include are small trees, snowmen, snowflakes, wreaths, sweaters, scarves, lots of creamy white pieces, twig branches, baskets, or yarn balls to name a few. Truly, there are so many ideas. Just place them in spots you think look empty or need a little extra love.

Remember to use neutral colors or colors from nature. But if your home is full of color, you only need to remove the actual Christmas decor for a wintertime look. The best part of any home decorating is you get to do what you want! ๐ It’s your style, your home, your personality!

I have always enjoyed winter decorating. I think it’s because the nature inspired colors are my jam. It’s harder for me to really like the bright spring and summer color. It’s beautiful and I could be happy living in a pink Barbie world but it seems out of place in this house. Thanks for stopping by Amber. Happy New Year!
Yes your pictures show your rooms very cozy looking. I always enjoy reading your blog.
Looking forward to see all your great ideas. Have a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Thank you Lorri. Gotta keep it cozy when it’s cold outside. ๐ Happy New Year.
This is exactly what I needed to find! I’ve never considered having winter decorations that are different from Christmas, but I absolutely love it! I love decorating with the antler sheds my husband brings home, but wasn’t quite sure how to keep it looking winter-y. This gave me so many ideas! Thanks for sharing!

I’m so glad you found some inspiration Alex, thank you. Happy winter decorating and stay warm!
The constant rush of the holidays all crammed together HalowThankmas is ridiculous. Having Thanksgiving late this year was even better, so that Christmas can be enjoyed for a month all by itself…as far as taking down what I put up the first week of December, it will be down by Jan.7…maybe.
I suppose the ad-driven bloggers will be harkening Valentines, Spring, Easter and let’s plant your garden next week! Too bad we can’t just enjoy LIFE in REAL TIME. Sandi

Yes! I feel like I need a vacation from all the holiday hubbub. Hope your new year is relaxing!
A cozy home, indeed, with a clean and fresh, but still with wintry touches. I love all your suggestions. I have taken down and packed away most of ours (even threw out the red poinsettia and clove oranges, but kept the white amaryllis). I’ve left any battery lit strings and window candles until the batteries die out. The weird thing about the batteries that I’ve found is you can change one of 3 or 4 and the entire string lights up again, even though they all were from the same package originally. So I’m one of those who keeps half used batteries. They can always be used for the mouse on my computer. ๐
Happy New Year, Cindy.

Say whaaaat?! I had no idea about the batteries. I’m with you on keeping the half used ones – LOL. And I’m glad I’m not the only one throwing things like the poinsettias out. This year I put the dried orange slices in a ziploc bag. I’ve never stored them with the rest of the Christmas stuff. We’ll see how that goes. Hoping I don’t find melted or eaten oranges next time I look for them. Although I’m not certain anything can withstand a Texas summer in an attic. Hope your new year has been excellent so far. ๐
