3 Simple Tips For Throwing a Fun Fall Party Around The Fire Pit!

If you’re new here you don’t know I love to host a party.  Well I say that.  What matters is that it has to be easy because usually I’m all kinds of worn out from scrubbing the entire house the day before making sure nobody leaves thinking – wow, how could she not see that nastiness on the door knob.  Not kidding. πŸ˜‰  I want them to never want to leave!  I love having music, great food, games and sometimes even parting gifts.  This time around there’s no cleaning involved.

Having a get together outdoors puts the duty of cleaning on the Mister.  See that small open area on the left of the driveway?  Last year we threw together a small firepit area using cement pavers and only a few logs to sit on.  You know, your part-time-country-living basic needs.

Well that didn’t last long.  The bum and back need more comfort for this lady and frankly, it was just plain ugly.  And it certainly won’t do for a small get together/party.  A girl has standards!  πŸ˜‰

But now we are ready!  Here’s 3 simple tips for throwing a fun fall party around the fire pit.

firepit with seating and side dessert table

Step One:  Don’t for get about comfy seating!

When we used the logs, sure they were rustic, good for outdoors and obviously cheap/free but we didn’t want to stay and enjoy the surroundings or the animals that come right up to the fence.  I even thought about haybales but they have all the same reasons as above not too use them either.  I opted for bringing the chairs off the back porch instead but they can get a tad cool on the rumpus at night – even with a firepit.  That why step 2 helps.

Step Two:  Make it cozy!

Since it’s fall with crisp cool air and wonderful breezes, bring out the quilts, pillows and blankets.  You can pull a wheel barrow or wagon around and stack the blankets on top to hold extras (forgot the photo of that – insert rolling eyes).  Just trust me, it was super cute!  But the cozy isn’t just about the blankets and throws.  Good lighting is essential too.  You’ll want to see your friends faces during meaningful conversations or see their smiles after the jokes.  πŸ˜‰

Step Three:  Use store bought food to keep it simple!

You know every party has food and libations.  To keep it simple, I buy it all from the store.  Yep, that scrumptious looking Apple Crumble Pie is from HEB.  So are the Pumpkin Snickerdoodles and the shell-yourself peanuts.  We love us some HEB.  That stands for Howard E. Butt, which sounds like a playground taunt and part of my fourth grade humor, but was the name of the supermarket chain’s founder. Nowadays, the initials stand for the stores slogan – Here Everything’s Better.  And yes, yes it is.

I like to use real plates and silverware if the party is small. Even the old farmhouse has some standards.  But paper napkins and plates work fine too.  At least my kind of friends won’t complain.  You’ll have to assess your own situation for that though.  LOL.  All easy.  All perfectly fall and all totally fun!

Cindy!! I love your outdoor space! we are currently tearing out our old patio (it wasn’t slopped away from the house so water got into the basement) and I can’t wait until it’s finished and looks beautiful like yours!! PS I’m all about the store-bought food too! SO MUCH SIMPLER!!!

    • September 30, 2021 / 10:23 pm

Cindy, your outdoor entertaining area is adorable! I’d love to sit out there and eat some H-E-B food with you! (I agree, everything is better there.) The blankets and beautiful fall pumpkin/leaf accents make it the perfect space for warming up by the campfire. I hope I get to do that with you someday. Big hugs!

    • September 30, 2021 / 10:26 pm

Thanks bunches Crissy! I hope you can visit as well someday. That would be so much fun! I’ll provide the smore’s – straight from HEB! LOL

I want a piece of pie and some cookies, looks delicious, I do mean setting, flowers and pumpkins, so cute. Been thinking about you and praying hope things are better.

If you ever have sign ups for weekend guests let me know. Have snacks will travel!! On a serious note, please know that I’m thinking of you and your family every day and praying for the best! Big hugs sweet friend!!

    • September 30, 2021 / 10:45 pm

We are in the process of moving out our daughter that used to live there so once that is complete we will be open for visitors again. And you are always welcome! I’d love a girls weekend sometime. Thank you for the prayers, that means so much.

Cindy how fun is this spot. You had me cracking up with the store name comment. This is such a great spot. You have the perfect land for a great big firepit. The one thing we gave up when downsizing to have less land to manage. Believe my life is great and this girl needs for nothing.

You certainly made me hungry for cookies now. Love the cabinet out there too!

    • September 30, 2021 / 10:48 pm

So glad you like it Cindy. And you are correct, having so much land means constant up keep and we do get behind considering we aren’t there all the time. I think downsizing is a great idea. Thank you and happy fall!

  8. September 29, 2021 / 11:47 am

Blankets in the wheelbarrow…now you got me thinking, and I didn’t even see the picture! This space is a wonderful addition to the farm; you’re going to spend plenty of wonderful evenings there, I’m sure:) Been praying for you and Will, and a speedy recovery! Glad you could join us today!

    • September 30, 2021 / 10:49 pm

Yay Lora – I’m excited to know I inspired YOU! Thank you so much for the prayers. Keep ’em coming! Big hugs.

  9. September 29, 2021 / 12:29 pm

Your fire pit area is so fun and cozy! I love that you have quilts out there to keep warm. Gives it an even cozier feel. The old hutch you use for the food and drinks is perfect. It looks amazing and eating off of dishes rather than paper plates, is even better. Definitely fun touring with you this week!

    • September 30, 2021 / 10:51 pm

Thanks Kim. I’m thinking we’ll enjoy it for a long time. And yes, why not use real plates – especially when they are vintage and so stinkin’ cute! πŸ˜‰

  10. September 29, 2021 / 1:23 pm

Your fire pit looks like so much fun! I love that you added furniture for serving food and to decorate for the season. When I first saw those logs, I was thinking, “No way could I stand sitting on them.” Glad you got comfortable chairs to sit on. I hope you enjoy many wonderful evenings this fall with your family.

    • September 30, 2021 / 10:54 pm

Yeah, those logs lasted about 2 sittings and I was done. Not comfy, not cozy, not warm enough! Off to the burn pile they went. Glad you like it and hope you visit one day.

  11. September 29, 2021 / 1:49 pm

    Cindy,

Your post had me laughing. LOVE keeping it simple and buying Fall treats from the grocery store. I think we should start a club. πŸ™‚
    Happy Fall.

    • September 30, 2021 / 11:17 pm

I’m all for clubs! I tell my friends not to expect anything homemade from me unless I’ve been hittin’ the bottle. And they know I don’t like wine or beer etc. LOL. We all have our talents and baking or cooking is definitely not mine. Thanks for the visit. Happy Fall!

  16. September 30, 2021 / 10:57 am

    • October 1, 2021 / 1:38 pm

Do you have the recipe for those homemade gingersnaps?

    • October 8, 2021 / 12:08 pm

Hi Linda. Thank you for the visit today.

I’m not sure what gingersnaps you’re talking about. I’ve looked on the last 3 Farmhouse Friday Link Parties and didn’t see any listed. Are you talking about the pumpkin cookies in my post about the fire pit? If so, those were pumpkin snickerdoodles purchased at HEB. The grocery store near us at the farmhouse. If you could tell me a little more about your inquiry, I’ll try and find the recipe for you. So sorry.

  25. October 8, 2021 / 9:04 pm

Great tips and a beautiful outdoor space! It is so cozy and welcoming! I have never had pumpkin snickerdoodles, but now I will be on the hunt for them! It was so much fun to be on this tour with you. Happy Fall, Cindy!

    • October 9, 2021 / 3:45 pm

Thank you Lynne! Watch out when you find the cookies. They were addicting! Thanks for the visit today.
