Welcome to the first Pinterest Challenge of 2026! We are beginning the year with Valentine’s ideas. And I’m sharing a Simple Valentine’s Day Centerpiece Using Topiaries.

Simple Valentine’s Day Centerpiece Using Topiaries
This month, our inspiration photo comes from Kate at Southern Home and Hospitality. She lives in Texas, too, and has a lovely home. Stop by and check it out.
I feel Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays with such a short season that it’s not really worth decorating for. When the kids were young, they had a school party. Creating cute boxes for their cards was enough decoration for me. So basically, I put a wreath on the front door and was done.
Now that the kids are grown, it’s really not my thing.

But when I saw these Valentine topiaries, it sparked a thought. I love topiaries. All shapes, sizes, faux, and real.
Here’s what I plan to incorporate from Kate’s image: 3 topiaries, hearts, a wooden cutting board, a candle, and flowers. Here’s how it turned out.
A Valentine’s Day Vignette
I’ve said many times that I’m not crafty. However, I do enjoy pushing myself to come up with a similar look to the inspiration photos; hence the word challenge. That’s the point of a Pinterest Challenge. To create something similar that works with our own personal style.
Since I’ve made lots of topiaries and don’t really want to store more of them, I went a different direction. And the best part is I didn’t spend a dime!
I already had grapevine wire leftover from this project. By using it to make different sized hearts, it allows me to easily store the little cuties until next year.
Heart shapes can easily be made with grapevine wire.
Using grapevine wire, you can shape it into anything you want and in any size you want. I made several-sized hearts. I stuffed the largest one into the leaves and used floral tape to connect the others to the stem. It was that simple!
You could also use paper, foam, cardboard, or air-dry clay to make your hearts. Just keep the hearts lightweight. If they get too heavy, they’ll pull the topiary over or not stay propped inside the greenery.
The other items Kate used in her vignette were flowers, candles, and a wooden cutting board underneath. You can see those elements in the photo, but I wanted to add a few more touches. Touches that I think made my entire centerpiece come together.
Don’t forget to add a few of your favorite little baubles.
In my mind, you can’t go wrong with ribbon for Valentine’s Day, and you can’t forget the lovey-dovey card. I have a stack of vintage-inspired tags I found at a store some years ago. This one pretty much sums up what is important on Valentine’s Day – cupcakes. lol.
There you go – a simple Valentine’s Day centerpiece using topiaries. It doesn’t look exactly like Kate’s, but for me, that’s the point. Can you see how easy it is to take a photo found on Pinterest and recreate something that works in your home? Maybe you’ll challenge yourself too. It’s somewhat satisfying.

Cindy, LOVE your topiaries!!! I like that you added little hearts and that they are easily storable. For me, that’s key anymore because where to store things, lol?? I think your interpretation of our inspiration photo is perfect with the little bouquet of tulips and candlelight… Magical!

I love the folded kraft bags around the bottom of the topiaries; so earthy and textural. Topiaries are definitely having a moment; guess everything 80’s and cottage is definitely back:) Thanks for always inspiring our creativity, friend!
