Hey Y’all! Today is a day of vintage goodness and maybe a new vocabulary word. The vintage portion is that a few of my blogger friends and I have gathered to bring a new hop series called A Lifestyle of Love. We’re going to share ideas, how we use, and our love for vintage, antiques, farmhouse style and repurposed goodies with you. The posts will be every other month so I hope after you read this one, you’re already looking forward to the next one in May.
The vocabulary part is the word Zhuzh. Have you heard the word? Zhuzh is a verb that means: to make more exciting, lively, or attractive. It fits perfectly with my post today. Our first theme is vintage crocks/stoneware/pottery and I’m showing you how to zhuzh your vintage crocks. 🙂 Let’s get started and don’t forget at the end of the post to check out my friends and see their fantastic ideas too.
How To Zhuzh Your Vintage Crocks
I don’t have many but the vintage crocks I do have bring me joy (thanks Marie Kondo) so they will be with me forever. They are used in decor, for holidays and as everyday helpers. I don’t want them sitting on a shelf collecting dust. I enjoy the thickness and how substantial they are. Many antiques are so thin and dainty that I feel because of my clumsiness, I could easily break them. So using these babies is marvelous!
This little beauty helps with decluttering!
As lovely as vintage crocks are, sometimes they could use a little flair or zhuzhing. I added pom pom garland to the one I like using in the kitchen. That may sound weird. Pompoms in the kitchen on a crock? But look at it. It’s so much cuter now. Using double sided tape is all you need to hold it together. This crock is used to hold paper plates, napkins, straws, etc. Great for an outdoor party or keeping the kitchen counter clutter free.

During the summer, we use this vintage crock/pitcher for drinks but also for holding flowers, as a centerpiece, or a Fourth of July show stopper. Adding red ribbon in between the blue stripes makes it even more patriotic. But wait, there’s more! It would also look great holding sparklers for night time fun or weighing down a bunch of red, white and blue balloons.
Fill’er Up!
You can see the pitchers on the bottom of the tea cart in the photo above. The small crocks hold peanuts, fruit, lots of things during the year. If you’d like to see the rest of the snack cart post, click here.
A Peaceful Retreat
There are lots of ways to use them on a daily basis. We use a large one for holding plants on the front porch. Another holds a stash of rolling pins and another holds the umbrellas in the mud room. Some of them still have their original stamps so I don’t typically give them any additional pizzazz.
I needed a quick centerpiece one day and decided this crock could use some zhuzhing as well. Again, ribbon and double sided tape saves the day! All I did was stuff a candle in the center with boxwood and flowers. Boom, instant centerpiece. I think the ribbon elevates the look from old and a little dirty looking to loved and cherished.

Great ideas and you have to love double sided tape. I’ve been looking for larger crocks to have around the house. I think they’re great for all different reasons.

Love your vintage crocks and how you have “zhuzhed” them up! My favorite is the blue striped pitcher that you added the red ribbon to in the patriotic vignette. I also love your large crock on the porch. I have a larger crock and small blue striped one that I didn’t have time to work into today’s post, but they will surely show up in future posts. I kept a big one on our covered porch but it ended up getting mildew spots and actually broke, perhaps too much moisture in the air? I have always seen people keep them on their porches so it shocked me. Anyway, I love them on porches and yours looks great.

Great post. I am crockless (better than being clueless!) but I have been known to make sunflower arrangements in my bean pot! I do love embellishing things so this is a great concept to me!

I’m on the look out for more as well! I want to make pretty vignettes around the house for spring. They cancelled the Vintage Market Days this weekend so not sure when I’ll get to find any. Totally bummed but understand. At least I have old paint cans around – Woo hoo! Happy Spring!

Are you creating your own language now, friend? If you believe it’s a word, I will start using it:) Wish I had enough space in my brain to join you girls on this one; love the ideas! Maybe after a while. Adding ribbon and trims to crocks and vases w/ tape is a great, inexpensive and easy idea to use for everyday or a special occasion.
