1 Lantern With 3 Different Winter Looks

Spread the love

Hello Friends!  Today is going to be another fun day of perusing.  I’ve joined several bloggers and our host, Amber with Follow the Yellow Brick Home for a Cozy Winter Homes Tour.  It’s not just a tour of homes though.  I’m showing 1 lantern with 3 different winter looks.  If you’ve stopped by from Our Southern Home, thank you so much!  I’m glad you’re here.  Wasn’t her winter mantel fantastically beautiful?  I love those deer!

1 Lantern With 3 Different Winter Looks

I don’t like spending money on decor for a season that doesn’t stick around Texas for long.  Just this past weekend, we had thunder storms and a tornado warning on Friday, snow on Saturday (a whole 1/2 inch) then sunny and 70 degrees on Sunday which is typical for us.  Not the snow, just the frequent changing temperatures.

So I challenged myself not to spend money and see if I could put together different looks using one of my lanterns.  If you’ve been around here a while you know I have several lanterns in different sizes and colors but the black ones are my favorite.  Mostly because everything that sits inside really pops and looks more vibrant.  Even winter decor.  The only thing about using black metal lanterns is that they look dusty.  At least in these photos they do but I’m telling you they aren’t.  I know this because I wiped them with the bottom of my shirt.  Total truth – LOL!

Winter Look #1

Winter lantern with pine cone and bead garland

I think we all have pine cones and greenery stems left over from Christmas so it’s a no-brainer to use them.  If you don’t have any, find things around your home that are white, green, brown or gray.  Those colors say winter to me.  I have friends that use blue as well.  For me, the gloomy days are a bummer so having white and green all over the house puts me in a better mood and the Mister certainly likes that.

Winter Look #2

lantern with white candle and greenery stems

This winter look is pretty and soft.  To make the candle a little taller inside the lantern, I really wanted to use a wood slice.  But those are in Navasota.  Of course they are.  Everything I need for this house is at the farmhouse.  I could have had the Mister cut more but the needed saw is in Navasota too.  Seriously?  I swear, having two houses to keep up with seems exciting to a lot of people but in reality, it’s annoying.  If I could buy two of everything then maybe I wouldn’t roll my eyes so much but that’s not happening.

Winter Look #3

lantern with white tree and pine cones and candle

Still keeping with the colors, white, green and brown, I pulled out this little tree and ceramic pine cone tea light holder.  I’d forgotten about the candle until I was cleaning out a drawer in the game room last week and it was stashed in the back.  Obviously I don’t open those drawers often because it was behind a plethora of pencils, a couple of old popcorn seasoning shakers, candy from at least 3 years ago, some chip clips and a bottle opener.  What the cuss?!  I know my kids did it.  That’s their idea of cleaning.  Just open a drawer and shove it all in. #LifeWithKids

There’s my short and sweet contribution to cozyin’ up your home this winter – 1 lantern with 3 different winter looks.  All of them are easy to duplicate or tweak into your own personal style.  Just gather small items in the winter colors of your choice and have fun.  I have other winter decor ideas on my Pinterest page.  So if you’d like to follow along, click here.  Now it’s time to hop on over to Shelley’s blog – Calypso In The Country.  She’s helping us transition from Christmas to winter.  Enjoy!

I love all three winter looks for your lantern. I don’t own black lanterns and I think it’s high time that I changed that!

    • January 14, 2020 / 10:38 am

Yep, it’s HIGH time Paula. They work in every room of our home. And on the porch. Happy hunting!

What a cute idea! I love all three looks but I think the second one with the white bow is my favorite. I know what you mean about the black lanterns. Yours doesn’t look dusty to me but I always feel like mine do in photos. And I guess the weather has been crazy everywhere…This weekend we had temps in the mid 60s – in New Jersey! Great hopping with you, Cindy!

I love change but when it comes to weather, I could use a little consistency. Unless it’s rain. I just can’t. Not sure how anyone lives in Seattle. Or England! Hope you have a great week Shelley.

Adorable. You are so funny. I love the white tree and the little pine cone votive holder. So cute.

    • January 14, 2020 / 10:42 am

Thank you Katie. I got that little white tree from Judith’s (@BotanicBleu) sale a couple of months ago. It’s already becoming a treasure. ๐Ÿ˜‰

How fun, thanks so much for sharing different ways to use lanterns. I have two and usually just put a candle inside. Now I will dress mine up a bit. Love all three of yours.

    • January 14, 2020 / 10:48 am

Thank you Ms. Marty. I treat them like a cloche and have a lot of fun trying new things inside. I’m surprised how much you can actually fit inside a lantern. Have fun with yours!

This is so creative Cindy! I love the look of lanterns but I’m never really sure what to do with them so I’m loving this post. It’s just what I needed. I’m headed treasure hunting with my Mom this weekend and I’ll be on the hunt for a few lanterns as pretty as these. Hugs, CoCo

    • January 14, 2020 / 10:51 am

CoCo, that sounds so fun! I love treasure hunting. My mother doesn’t like dead peoples stuff like I do though so she doesn’t go. Enjoy and I hope you find some goodies and post about them. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love your simple lanterns Cindy! The little Bible and candle is my fave, and that sweet Bible is divine, literally!
So funny about the drawers. We all have them. Mine are full of coupons from those times I decided I am going to be an extreme couponer for about a month then I lose interest.

It’s always fun to have you along for hops and tours! Thanks for joining!

        • January 15, 2020 / 5:27 pm

Thank you Amber, I used to have a purse full of those coupons and finally decided to stop trying. I’d get to the store and pay and never remember the coupons. I finally figured out (justified) the time spent cutting them out was costing me money. LOL.

Your lantern looks great all three ways.

    Happy decorating!

    Cindy

Thank you Cindy. They were fun to put together.

I love lanterns and all three are wonderful! I think #1 is my favorite. Happy winter,

Thank you Jann. Mine too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

All your lantern ideas were super cute hard to pick just one, but i love the idea of pinecones, greenery, and something white.

    • January 14, 2020 / 11:59 am

Thanks Marlene. I love that look too. It’s unusual but I’ve always liked brown. The first house we built was brown. Brown cabinets, brown floors, mushroom colored walls and carpet. I went crazy with the brown but I loved it. Never thought back then to add white or greenery. Hmmm.

  9. January 14, 2020 / 1:50 pm

Cindy, it appears our kids have the same style of cleaning! LOL! I love your simple options for decorating a lantern. I’m always trying to figure out what to do with mine. I think #3 is definitely my fave. There’s something about that little jute twine hanging down and the mini pine cones that speaks to me. Thanks for keepin’ it real! Always fun to hop with you!

    • January 14, 2020 / 4:04 pm

That’s me Crissy – Tell-it-like-it-is Cindy. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m determined to get to those unseen drawers this year and the kids closets. It’s crazy the crap they left saying they didn’t have anywhere to keep it. Yeah well, ain’t nobody got time for that. To the donation station it goes! :0

  10. January 14, 2020 / 1:56 pm

I love all your winter looks with the lantern, Cindy. The large candle on the small Bible is my fave. Just perfect for January. Missouri weather is crazy but I think Texas has us beat. We had tornados here last week too. just crazy this time of year. your drawers sound like mine except I don’t have kids here to blame, haha!!

    • January 14, 2020 / 2:11 pm

I cleaned the drawer out that day and hope to tackle the rest of the unseen places this year. Now that all the kids moved out, I should be able to keep it clutter free around here. Fingers crossed! I adore that little Bible. It needs its own special spot. Thanks for the visit Debra!

Love the savings and the different looks. So clever to remember the color scheme youโ€™re working with. Totally agree on the Texas weather. Arenโ€™t we blessed?

    • January 14, 2020 / 2:13 pm

Thanks and I do love our Texas winters but could use more sunny days for sure.

Cindy, your weather sounds just like mine did last week in Oklahoma. I agree with you about winter decorating. Your lantern ideas are perfect for the season. Each one is beautiful!

    • January 14, 2020 / 7:15 pm

Thank you Shannon. I always think about OK weather since my daughter is at OU. We were surprised we got snow last Saturday and y’all didn’t! I love OK. Y’all have 4 seasons. ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. January 14, 2020 / 7:12 pm

Cindy, all three winter looks are simple, fresh and sweet! But, I’m partial to #3. I like the idea of “shopping” your own house (or two!) when creating a centerpiece or styling a mantle, coffee table or vignette. Thanks for some great ideas!

    • January 14, 2020 / 7:17 pm

Thank you sweet Debbee. I do love shopping my own house as does the Mister but sometimes a girl needs to get out and find something new. LOL

  14. January 14, 2020 / 9:00 pm

This is so fun, Cindy. I favor #2! Happy to be joining you on this tour! Stay cozy! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction

    • January 14, 2020 / 9:06 pm

So glad you like one Cecilia. Thanks for the visit.

  15. January 15, 2020 / 11:17 am

I love lanterns in all shapes and colors. Your lantern is so handsome and great size. It really looks fabulous with your three different versions. I’m really hooked on the large pinecones this year so the first one caught my eye!

    • January 15, 2020 / 11:27 am

Thank you Michelle. I have three of those pine cones (which by the way learned they are called sugar cones) and take great care of them. Hope they’ll last a long time. Happy Hump Day!

  16. January 15, 2020 / 12:15 pm

Cindy, Wasn’t last weekend the craziest weather? And so far, this week, it’s warmer and muggy and the sky is sweating. Oh well. Your lantern styling is darling and provides wonderful inspiration. Mine is outside and dirty. I think i need to get it and wash it and use it inside for winter. Thanks for the ideas girlfriend.

    • January 15, 2020 / 12:30 pm

Yeah, what’s up with our weather?! Glad you liked the ideas. Now go get that dirty lantern and bring it inside! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  17. January 15, 2020 / 8:07 pm

Cindy I loved your post and all three ideas were awesome and so doable! You made me giggle because I can totally relate to with #lifewithkids ! Thanks for the ideas and smiles!

    • January 16, 2020 / 2:57 pm

Thank you Kelly. The kids are adults now and even though they still shove things in drawers – I did NOT raise them like that! They take after the Mister. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. January 16, 2020 / 11:01 pm

Cindy I love your three lantern looks! Number two was my favorite. I have a bunch of lanterns that I never get around to decorating, so you’ve given me some beautiful inspiration! I also loved your story about your kids cleaning. My little boy and husband ๐Ÿ˜… do the same thing…except they just shove things into closets. lol!

    I really enjoyed your post!

    • January 16, 2020 / 11:11 pm

Thank you Larissa. Iโ€™m glad youโ€™ve found some inspiration! And we if our people could put in as much energy into putting things in the proper place as they do shoving and hiding, just think how much easier their life would be! They should take after us! ๐Ÿ˜‚

  19. January 18, 2020 / 10:43 pm

Cindy I love all three lantern dรฉcor you have shared. I am not too sure which one I like the best. I love lanterns and using them other than placing a candle in it is so much prettier! Great inspiration.

    • January 18, 2020 / 10:48 pm

Thanks bunches Terrie. I agree with you. Using just a candle can be so much better! Glad you liked the lantern decor and glad you visited today.

  20. January 21, 2020 / 8:25 am

All three of these looks are just perfect for winter. My favorite is the pinecone, lovely. I can really relate to the two homes issue. I only have a few things at the condo in Ohio, it is usually the piece of clothing I really want to have in Florida that is in the closet in Ohio!

    • January 21, 2020 / 10:47 am

Yay, a girl who understands! I don’t know how people can manage two homes and do it well. Hoping to get better at it soon so I’m not so aggravated. LOL. Glad you like the Lanterns Chloe. I love that giant sugar cone! Have a great week.

  21. February 8, 2020 / 6:42 pm

I love all three ways!! I honestly can’t choose a favorite!! These are great ideas that would look good in my house!!

    • February 8, 2020 / 10:10 pm

So true Kristin! I love your cabin and all three would look great in your home. Stay warm!
