What is your word of the year?

Have you ever heard of people choosing a “word of the year”? Have you tried it? When I heard about it a couple of years ago, I quickly waved it off thinking it was more like a New Years Resolution which I typically don’t do. But this year I need stricter rules.  I need a plan.  A plan that spurs motivation.  That is what I think choosing a word for the year is about; a sort of pondering the big picture or having something to do with personal growth.  But most importantly it’s about progress not failure.

This will be my first year to give it a go. Most likely because my life seems ridiculously busy even though I thought at my age things would be slowing down or it could be because I tend to forget things.  I really don’t know but I’m doing it.

After doing a small bit of research, I’m suppose to begin be deciding what I want to accomplish in 2018. The word I choose is to help with intention; with keeping focused when I feel scatter brained or if things are getting crazy in my day to day life.  It’s about helping me (us if you do this) stay focused as I traverse through 2018.

I will put my Word of the Year in a place I’ll see it when I’m working at my desk and somewhere I’ll see it while going about my day to day chores.  I’ve listed several words hoping you understand and to give you insight to what I’m talking about.

I hope you join me in growing/staying on task/being intentional with a Word of the Year!  I would also love to know what word you choose!  If you have already figured it out or are still mulling it over, post a comment and let me know.  By the way, I think my word is PUSH.  I want to push myself to try new things, push and not quit when things get boring.  I’d like to push and finish tasks that have been sitting on my desk for a year or use all that craft stuff sitting around drying out! Just to name a few.  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Happy 2018!

… Good morning, my word is BREATHE … to give my heart the opportunity to meld back into the love that it should be surrounded with daily. BREATHE … for my life to remain calm, even when the world around me is not. For my heart to keep moving forward, redirected and refilled daily with kindness and generosity towards people I have the great fortune of coming in contact with each day. Enjoy the SONshine, Jayne

My word is serenity, closely followed by gratitude. I will not hand over my serenity just because someone rattles my cage; it has been too long and hard a journey to relinquish it that easily!

Ooh, that’s a good one Kathy. I think we could all say we need some of that. Thanks for visiting today and happy 2018!

Cindy, I haven’t done a word of the year, but I’ve already decided that my approach to blogging and business this year is EFFORT, meaning focus on the effort, not the results. I’ll be posting about that next week.

    • January 5, 2018 / 2:18 pm

I get caught up in the trap of not getting the results I want which turns to doubt. So focusing on the EFFORT and not the results is genius. Can hardly wait to read your post next week!

You used my word several times….. Intentional. I want to be intentional & act. Not react. Intentional seems to imply well thought out, controlled
& implemented. Not just willy nilly or living by knee jerk reaction. I want to create my own fulfilling path! Oh & I agree. I need to use my craft stuff too! Haha!

    • January 5, 2018 / 3:36 pm

Well said Laura – Act instead of react. It definitely implies well thought out! We’ll have to get together and use up our craft stuff too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve never done a word of the year either. I’m kinda like you, I thought, “oh,that’s neat… (for someone else.)” But I played along and did a little “word of the year generator” quiz a friend posted on FB. Based on my answers to a few insightful questions it told me word my this year is “brave.” And I was shocked by how much that little 5 letter word resonated with me the minute it popped up on my computer screen. Yes! I thought. Yes! That is what I want to be this year. I want to look back next December and be proud and excited and stretched and changed by the risks I took, the places I went, the things I learned, and the people I met. So… as much as it scares the wadding out of me to say it… this year I will be brave. “For He has not given us the spirit of fear…”

Amen Sister! Brave it is and I will be here to cheer you on and wave you to jumping in on many rare adventures. โค๏ธ.

Hello myself dear! I am doing this for the first time this year, too and my word is manifestation. What a fab idea to place the word somewhere you can see it. I will get to that soon!

How do you want that to help you Habiba? I’d love to hear! Thanks for visiting and sharing.

Cindy, I’ve been doing this for almost 6 years, but I think I might have skipped a couple years along the way. My word this year is BALANCE, because I want to find a happy place with my blogging and my private life. It’s easier said than done, but something I want to work on.

    • January 10, 2018 / 8:11 pm

Balance is something I need to strive for too. When you work from home, it’s hard to turn off the computer and just be with the family. Even if I do, I find myself thinking about what I need to be doing. Best wishes Carol

My word this year is authentic. In all that I do, I want to be real, and be myself, and do things that make me happy. This is the first year I chose a word of the year, but I think it will help to keep me focused on my goals

Jessica, I love that! Thanks so much for sharing. Happy Friday.
