Spread the love

Anderson, TX is about 10 minutes from us in here in Navasota.  When we heard about The Ella Ruth Tea Room and soon-to-be Bed & Breakfast, we put it on our to do list!   Because one, we love to dine out and two, we get tired of the same 5 places to eat.  #thestruggleisreal.  Anderson, TX isn’t known for being a restaurant row.  In fact, they just got a donut shop and Subway last year so I think The Ella Ruth is going to be a big hit.

As soon as we drove up the atmosphere was charming and looked like my kinda place; an 1890’s Victorian old house, fabulous trim, old windows, and a nice big porch.  It screamed come on in.

The tables are in two different rooms and in the front hallway by the original stairs.  It’s decorated with elegant table cloths, eclectic chandeliers, real flowers, and amazing collection of mismatched dishes with teacups and saucers.

The Tea Room called the Ella Ruth

But the best most fabulous idea ever?  Reading glasses sitting in jars for those (ahem, like me) who need them!  Genius right?  I know!  And look at those cute little salt and pepper shakers.  Each table has a different adorable set.

Table at the Ella Ruth

The Ella Ruth serves flavored teas (obviously) like Lemon and Ginger, Chai and Pure Peppermint.  And flower teas like Chrysanthemum, Lavender, Jasmine and Rose Bud.  The menu offers different types of quiche, sandwiches like chicken salad, soups, salads and even chicken spaghetti.  It was hard to choose but I decided on the chicken salad sandwich with a side salad (no tomatoes please and thank you).

The sandwich came out on homemade bread because they were out of croissants.  No biggie, it was delicious.  But to be honest, there were 3 of us and we all ordered a different dish (Quiche and Tomato Basil Soup too).  We thought it was good but none of it had strong flavor.  We all wished for more flavor.

They are known for their Pie Pops which they started making for church functions.   My daughter had the apple and said it was excellent.  They also have pies, cake, cookies, and cinnamon rolls.  I had the lemon loaf cake and the Mister had fudge – each were tasty.

The Ella Ruth Bed & Breakfast

They plan to open the Bed & Breakfast upstairs very soon.  I can tell from what they’ve already accomplished that it will be quaint and comfortable.  And if the service is anything like the service we had in the dining area, you may never want to leave.

You should put The Ella Ruth Bed & Breakfast and Tea Room on your next outing To Do List.  When you get there, you’ll want to check out the teas and the pie pops for sure but they also have beautiful hand stitched tea towels made by the owners mom, Christene Coburn.  She’s almost 92 years young! I believe there’s a boutique in the back and right down the street is Fanthorp Inn.  Another historical site you’ll want to visit.

They are only open for lunch so plan accordingly.  Here is the contact info.  Enjoy!

I love old houses and this one is adorable…glad it’s getting a new life as a B&B. It looks absolutely charming. And haha, I hear you on the limited eating places….Palestine has just a handful worth eating at. Going to miss Austin and the variety of restaurants available here.

Yeah and only 2 of those are actual restaurants. The others are fast food places. Bleh. Love Austin! From there to Palestine will definitely be a change. Best wishes Cecilia!

Cup-O-Readers – That’s funny. At first I thought someone accidentally left theirs but 2 pair? Then I looked around and saw each table had some. Love it!
