A Colorful Fall Outdoor Tablescape

Hello Friends!  It’s Pinterest Challenge time again and today I have a colorful fall outdoor tablescape for you.  Putting this post together converted my bad attitude regarding the hot weather we still have around here to giving me all the fall feels and wanting all the fall things!

Let’s get started so you can see how one inspiration photo can have so many different interpretations!  And if you’ve popped over from French Ethereal – Howdy!  I’m so glad you’re here!

Our inspiration photo is from Beth who blogs over at Home Stories A to Z.  What drew me to this photo wasn’t just that it was in a gorgeous outdoor setting but the soft colors on the table, the rustic wood sliced chargers, the copper cups and the tray with all the pumpkins as a centerpiece.  But to work this magic into my own home (backyard), I need more color; rich fall color.  So here’s how I changed it up to work for us (okay, just me).

A Colorful Fall Outdoor Tablescape

I started with what I already had – darker fall plates I got several years ago at Home Goods.  They have seen a lot of use and have a few chips on an edge or two but I have enjoyed them.  I’m sure one day I’ll say goodbye to these and bring home something totally different.  But for now, free is good!

While on a fall shopping trip to Pier One, I found a table runner (affiliate link) with the same colors as the plates.  It wasn’t enough color for me.  And oddly enough, I don’t have a tablecloth that coordinates so using a throw blanket (affiliate link) was the next best thing.  At first I thought using both the throw and runner together was a bit much because I was going to cover it up with pumpkins, but remember, there’s no such thing as too much fall at my house.  Plus, when we put our elbows on the table it will be much more comfy.  πŸ˜‰

Next, Beth used a large floral arrangement in the middle of an oval shaped galvanized tray.  I don’t have one so I’m using the rectangler shaped galvanized tray that I do have.  The antique ironstone pitcher with the yellow flowers is so eye-catching and makes the table looks so pretty.   And even though they are tall and not conducive to conversation, they’ll stay until our guests arrive.  Don’t we do this for the smiles, oohs and aahs anyway?  I do!  πŸ™‚

Hobby Lobby has a great selection of garland (affiliate link) and of course it’s my go-to-easy-decor-item.  This 72″ table took two six foot length fall garlands because I wanted it to hang down the sides of the table.  The large leaves added such vivid color that it looks like fire!  This girl is on fiyaaaa.  This girl is on Fiyaaa aa aa.  Sorry, every time I say the word fire, that song pops into my head.  Honestly, if I never heard it again it would be fine with me.  Okay, station break over.  If you prefer to use only one garland it will look great and fill your table nicely.

The lanterns came from Home Goods a few years ago.  I like that the candles are permanent and can be turned on by a switch.  If you can ever find some like that, I highly recommend buying them.  They give out a warm glow and are lightweight.  Perfect for small spaces too.  Each pumpkin came from a bin in the attic except for the large one sitting on the bench and the two small striped ones on the galvanized tray.  Those were super cheap at Walmart.

I hope you see how just a few small changes can turn one inspiration photo into something that fits your style and something that makes you smile?  I can hardly wait to show it off and sit and enjoy it.  I’ll have plenty of mosquito spray on me and probably some cold food like ice cream.  It’s still to hot for chili or soup but goodness me, I am dreaming of the day it’s 65 degrees!

Next up is Yvonne from StoneGable.  She is one talented lady with her tablescapes.  Each one always makes me want to jump through the computer and sit a spell.  Don’t forget to check out the others too.  There are so many unique fall looks!

Enjoy and Happy Fall Decorating Friends!

Well Cindy, you should have come a few days ago. The table has been stripped. πŸ™‚ It was fun having it though. Glad you like it!

Cindy, love the layering of the tablecloth and colorful throw. The lanterns at each end of the table are great. Finding ones with battery candles is a big plus. The dishes are perfect for fall. Thanks again for organizing.

Thanks Carol, I think the lanterns are a fave for sure. I’ve used them a lot around here. Enjoy your week!

Oh, I LOVE your table, Cindy. The burgundy is spectacular. I’m so glad you found your picnic table. Thank you for hosting such an inspiring party.

I looked all over the internet for a picnic table and even tried Craigslist and FB Marketplace. Ugh, that is a frustrating process and nothing was below $100. I finally broke down and told the Mister what I needed and he said look for a picnic table kit. I didn’t even know there was such a thing. Anyway, Home Depot had them on sale for $99 so we went to pick it up. Got there and there were no more in boxes. Ugh, I was about to flip a lid. Long story short, we got the sample that was outside for half off the listed $99 but when I go to check out, it was on sale for $84! I got the already assembled table for $42! Woo Hoo! Lid flippin’ averted.

Guess what? It’s 65 here right now;) But…it was melting hot and humid when I was trucking all my fall table stuff back to the woods! I could hardly touch those wool blankets! Love your fall tablescape and am secretly wondering how your height-challenged self snapped that bird’s eye pic…did hubby climb up a ladder for you? Cuz I always get my toes in those kind of shots, I’m so short. Thanks for being our faithful leader; excited to see all the inspiration today!

    • September 24, 2019 / 10:53 am

You got it Lora – the hubby did it. πŸ™‚ I am jealous of the weather you have (still in the 90’s) and I want some woods to trample through. Although I probably wouldn’t enjoy it for fear of snakes. But the thought if it gives me all the fall feels. Except the sweaty arms underneath wool blankets? Bleh!!!

That is really a beautiful table, it adds to all the beauty of fall. I agree completely just wish the temperature would be a little more fallish.

    • September 24, 2019 / 11:00 am

Thank you Marlene! One day soon, we’ll wake up and it will be cool outside. I plan to throw open the door and do a little jig. Even if the neighbors can see me. πŸ˜‰

I love all the red & bright colors, Cindy! It’s so cozy and beautiful. You always have amazing ideas.

    • September 24, 2019 / 11:27 am

Awe, thank you Katie. It’s funny how outside my house I want bright vivid color but inside, I want boring ol’ neutrals. Gotta keep people guessing I suppose. LOL!

Love your tablescape… and all the lovely pumpkins! And that throw blanket as a tablecloth is perfect, too!

    • September 24, 2019 / 5:00 pm

Thanks bunches Julie. I really enjoyed putting it together. Even if it was 95 degrees outside.

Cindy, it’s always a joy to read your posts. Not only is your table so festive and fabulous, but you also crack me up every time! I can’t say “fire” without thinking of that song, too.

I love what you’ve done with the colored runner, garland and yellow flowers in the middle. We love to shop at all the same places! That bird’s eye view of the table is my favorite. And yes, let’s be honest, we do a lot of things for ooo’s and ahhh’s, don’t we? πŸ˜‰

Thanks again for a great hop!

Yep, it’s all about the pats on the back and “ooh girl, your table is fantabulous”. Thank you Crissy. Even though it’s already put away, I’m dying to do another one! But I’m waiting until it’s at least 75 degrees this time.

Cindy, I also meant to invite you to join us again today at Tuesday Turn About! Hope you can make it.

Thanks for the reminder! I try not to miss it. Great features this week btw.

Your table is beautiful, Cindy! Now that you have a picnic table in your yard, once you finally get some cooler temperatures, I hope that you enjoy many meals out there. You got so lucky to get your picnic table at such a great price! I love the rich jewel colors that you used on your table. The throw makes a wonderful tablecloth and it looks great with your new runner, fall garlands and lanterns. Your plates are really pretty and I can imagine that it is a treat to bring them out each fall to enjoy. I am really enjoying the fall tablescapes shared for this challenge.

    • September 25, 2019 / 10:35 am

Thank you Paula! It was a lot of fun putting together. The picnic table will go down to Navasota next week. We won’t eat in our tiny backyard because we have a covered back porch with…get this.. a round metal table we got for only $35! Say whaaaat?! I know, another super duper bargain. I’m looking forward to using it this fall many many times. Wish we had Sherman to pat on the head while we enjoyed it but I’m sure he’d rather have the woods.

  14. September 25, 2019 / 10:45 am

This is so beautiful and cozy. I adore the use of fabric layers. It’s all so cozy. I just love fall!!!

    • September 25, 2019 / 11:30 am

LOL Christy! I love fall too. I think those of us in the South are much more grateful for it. So really, Mother Nature should extend it to us even longer! Enjoy the season.

Beautiful colors and I love the texture of the bouquet!

    • September 26, 2019 / 4:22 pm

Thank you Carol. I am loving those yellow flowers more and more every day. Glad you visited today!

Oooh myyyy! That girl is on fiyah! Love the rich colors, the unique throw/blanket idea and the budget bargain on the table. Bet your mom was worried when you climbed out on the roof for that overhead pic! Poor woman…

    • October 3, 2019 / 11:43 am

Hahahhaha. You have to know the Mister climbed up on the ladder to do that overhead shot lady. I’m not sacrificing my body for a photo! LOL
